They call it a restaurant, but it was really and open space. People walking all around you while you eat. The service was decent, not great. The sea bass was good, the lamb chops had to be sent back, and eventually removed from our check. We went there on Valentine's day. It was memorable, but only in a negative way. FB
We had loved this place in the past, but this time the food was hit and miss. Meza platter excellent, salad great, some mains were good, others not "so much". The chicken and fish were tasteless, but the lamb was excellent. The service was up to par. Be careful on ordering the your main dish.
i have eaten at the greatroom a few times before and decided to take my mom, wife and family out for brunch. the selection was less than i thought it would be and it was freezing inside. the service was good and the omelet was awesome. i really like the crab salad - i went back for seconds.
Hotel restaurants aren't usually very impressive, however both the food and service at the GREATROOM are excellent. Our waiter, Dago remembered us from a previous visit over four months ago and remembered what we had eaten and the wine we had with dinner. I was amazed and his service on this visit was equally attentive. His food suggestions were excellent and all three of us thoroughly enjoyed the meal. I am definitely planning a return visit.
Pleasant surprise in Fremont, easy to get in on a Fri night. The service attentive and helpful. Too bad no separate dining room rather than the middle of the lobby. The numerous big screen TVs distract. Have a good selection of interesting dishes. We tried the sea bass, cooked perfectly and the fresh fava bean succotash was quite unique. The salad was memorable. However, the vegetarian pasta dish "featuring" Portabello mushrooms was very scant on the mushrooms-ho hum. The Crispy Dulce de Leche desert not up to par, the pastry was un-cooked on the inside, probably hastily cooked from frozen. It's a nice find in Fremont that has few decent restaurants of this type, but it could not compete if it were in other Bay Area locations.
After seeing the revieews we decided to try out the Greatroom. For a hotel dining I must say this place should be a stand alone restuarant. The food was amazing! My husband was blown away by the filet and he is very hard to please. I had the Corvina Seabass. I never knew that I like succotash but they way it was prepared I am now a believer. Even the service was good. The hostess was especially helpful. We had a mezze platter that was awesome. I have never had that before. A trio of dips and naan bread just awesome. After enjoying a great dinner we were treated to a dessert from the Chef. I believe his name is Paul. He came to our table and presented us with a Torta de Nona. It was great! Thank you Chef Paul we will return!!
After a long search, we've finally found a fine dinner spot close to home. The Greatroom offers fresh and creative dishes. I had the day scallops - there was a generous amount of scallops cooked perfectly. To compliment the excellent food, the service was the best we've experienced anywhere in the area, and even beyond. Typically you have to drive quite a distance to SF or other others for a fine dinner and good wine list. This makes for a long drive and a late night on a regular just to get quality food. Fremont finally has an upper end option. You do have to get beyond the idea that you will go to a hotel just for dinner, but the food was by far worth it.
THIS WAS A FIRST TIME FOR THE 4 OF US DINERS FOR VALENTINES DAY TOGETHER AND AT THE RESTAURANT. I DISCOVERED THE GREATROOM ON OPEN TABLES WEBSITE. I READ REALLY GOOD REVIEWS ON IT AND THIS IS WHY IT WAS CHOSEN.THE SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT! RESERVATION WAS AT 830PM. WE WERE SEATED RIGHT AWAY AT 820PM. THE FOOD TOOK MORE THAN 40 MINUTES FROM THE TIME TO ORDER TO THE TABLE. WHEN FOOD ARRIVED, THE PLATES ARE HUGE BUT PORTION IS NOT EVEN A PORTION. WE ORDERED THE ROSEMARY CHICKEN THAT CAME WITH ASPARAGUS AND POLENTA CAKES, THE ASPARAGUS WAS NOT CLEANED RIGHT AND WE GOT 1 1/2 POLENTA CAKES EACH. I WISH I TOOK A PIC OF OUR DISHES TO SHOW WHAT WE HAD.
It was really a pathetic experience ever. It took 3.5 hrs for 2 ppl to dine with worst quality food. They don't have much on their menu and watever was there wasn't good at all. It spoiled our valentine day eve. Will never visit it again. It took around 25 mins to get water and menu card.
My guests and I had a great time at the Great Room....we were delighted with the luncheon menu. Each of us ordered a different item and all were delicious. The host staff was gracious and accommodating. We had a well-behaved 6 month old with us and she was good. Besides, it was so relaxing, we could really enjoy ourselves. Our waiter was delightful as well. We were not hurried or rushed at all. A very pleasant experience.
This is the second time we have dined here and are so glad we have a high quality restaurant in Fremont that serves American cuisine. We both had dinner salads which were delicious and contained the freshest ingredients. The falafel appetizer and the dessert (key lime pie) were wonderful. We will definitely be returning.
We enjoyed the Mezze platter and tuna appetizer which were delicious. The fish entrees were first class. However I ordered the steak/frites and the meat (skirt steak) was very fatty - almost inedible. The french fries were delicious however. Fremont does not have many good restaurants that serve American cuisine so this spot is welcome. However it is in the JW Marriott hotel and we were the only table occupied on a Saturday night - it felt a bit lonely.
My girlfriends and I plan a yearly get together every December. I came across the GREATROOM on yelp and was curious after noticing the number of great comments. We look for a venues that have great food and wine so we thought we would give this a try. The servers were hospitable and we had the chance to chat with the Executive Chef who whipped up something different for our special occasion. The food was comparable to a fine dining establishment. We enjoyed every bit of our experience from the presentation of the perfectly crispy french fries to our sous vide skirt steak that was exploding with flavor. I can't believe such a gem is located in Fremont, not to mention a hotel restaurant. I will definitely recommend as well as return.
Every entree we have tried in 2 visits is outstanding. Everything about it befits a top quality restaurant. The ambience is designed for a mainly business clientele, so it has gone the sports bar direction--TV screens on several walls, albeit with the sound off. A few elegant touches would be nice. They serve large banquets. We long for a venue that accommodates 40 to 60.
Service is beyond courteous--so personable and thoughtful.
I found this restaurant on Open table looking for something new in the Fremont Area. What a fantastic surprise!! The food was amazing, Sea Bass and Salmon had impressive flavors. The opening dish of three different Hummus type dishes were excellent and the deserts of cheese cake and Pot au fau finished off the meal with great sweet tastes.
The captain, Brian took very good care of use and the rest of the staff were very attentive.
The one draw back is the eating area, it is in the lobby of the hotel with no separation between the eaters, bar, check-in desk, kids playing games.
I just returned from New Orleans where I eat at 5 star restaurants and this meal, in Fremont, was head and shoulders above them all.
My wife and I were looking forward to our anniversary so we stayed at the Marriott Hotel for a stay-cation of sorts. We love to eat out and were suprised that we had not been here sooner since we live so close. The staff acknowledged our special day and went above and beyond the call of service. Friendly and attentive without being overbearing or fake. The food was divine. Simply put the Crispy Dulce De Leche was one of the greatest desserts i have ever had the pleasure of partaking. We will be back without a doubt. A big thank you for making our night something to remember.
Being a serial diner I joined opentable to expand my dining in the area. I was talking with a colleague and they mentioned they had a good meal at the marriott. I thought they were talking about Arcadia in San Jose. Nope they said in Fremont. I said where? So we took the trip up to Fremont. I was impressed. The good was excellent and the service was good too. I had the a lamb dish that the chef was featuring. It had a lamb sausage that I have never heard of. The lamb was prepared correctly and that sausage was terrific. I asked to speak to the chef and he came out. He took the time to explain everything and thanked us for choosing them for dinner. I think it's called a dulce de leche. It was very good. Well done Marriott your chef is great!
I went to the great room because we had a business function in the Marriott Fremont hotel and I was very surprised that the food was very very good. The restaurant had multiple TVs that do not bother me much because the food and service were awesome. I had the Mary's chicken and my boss had the special they had in the restaurant which was swordfish. He said he never had a swordfish that was good and this one was spectacular. It was moist juicy and a great choice. The chef and the sous chef came out to the table and introduce themselves I was glad they did because they made me look really good in front of my boss. Kudos to Chef Paul and Chef Steven thank you guys and I will definitely return with more clients.
I am new to opentable and I decided to try the Greatroom in Fremont. I have to say the food was great. We started with the heirloom tomato salad and the charcuterie platter. I have never had a truffle salami before it was very tasty.My hubby had the filet mignon and I had the scallop dish. They were excellent and very well prepare. The waiter I believe his name was Dago(hope I got that right) was very attentive and personable but not over bearing. The desserts were great too. I read about the dulce de leche dessert on here and boy did it live up to the hype. I again never had something like this. Just simply put fantastic. There was also the molten chocolate cake. It was great because it was not overly sweet. We will return soon.
We were looking for a place to eat while driving on the 880. We found the Greatroom. I have to say we were very pleased with the choice. We arrive to a mezze platter from the chef. The hummus is the best I've had. The chef even gave me the recipe. The ahi tuna tostada was great as well. The Mary's chicken was tasty. I don't know what they do but it was moist and very flavorful. We overheard other guest saying the same thing. The Seabass was excellent it had peas and fava beans. Fresh tasting and colorful. Their crispy dulce de leche is a must. My friends are already planing our next visit to the Greatroom. The chef mentioned the menu will be changing for the fall. We can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
I had dinner here with a special friend. She had some specific needs as far as her food goes. I wasn't expecting the chef to come out but he did. He starting by explaining what he could do for her. She was blown away and agreed to let him prepare a few dishes. He made a scallop dish that was amazing I believe that's how she described it. I had a filet with a cauliflower gratin. I don't like cauliflower and it was very good. Service was attentive as well. The chef came back to check on us and we expressed our delight. I believe that this chef has a bright future. We will definitely return.
We wanted to use Open Table to find a decent restaurant for dinner between San Jose & Oakland. This is the one we picked. The waiter could not have been nicer or more prompt. However, the kitchen was very slow, air conditioning too cold & drafty, and the noise level extreme. We were not expecting the "sports bar" atmosphere... We wanted a quiet place for a nice dinner. And, it is expensive!
theGREATROOM is a place we love to take our friends and family to . The space itself is beautiful, and remodeled
The staff is always welcoming and caring. The hostess Judith was so kind to pull up our reservation and she sat us to our table that was prepared for our arrival. We were fortunate to have a table away from everyone, but still close to the bar - and we were able to have a quiet conversation, thanks to great acoustical design!
The food is sustainable, thoughtfully prepared - and delicious. Lots of original drinks on the bar menu as well - clearly, there is a lot of attention being paid to the quality and originality of their offerings.
We look forward to visiting again!

The food was fantastic, service was great. It's great to have discovered somewhere else in Fremont that has really good food.
The restaurant is in the Marriot, but the food is much better than typical hotel food. As a plus, they brought us champagne as a gift for the special occasion We will definitely be going back.
We dined at theGREATROOM the evening their new menu debuted. I had scallops and my husband had the filet mignon. The plates were works of art and our food was delicious and cooked perfectly. The cauliflower gratin that came with the filet was particularly outstanding. For dessert we shared the chocolate pot de crème which was amazing. Our waiter was well trained on the menu - a requirement of an upscale restaurant. The decor is lovely with warm colors and comfortable seating. Since this is a "business hotel" on weekdays, the restaurant is very quiet on weekends so it is perfect for a nice, unrushed dinner. We will definitely return to theGREATROOM and will not hesitate to recommend it.
I had a pleasure of dining at theGREATROOM for dinner the other night. It was hands down one of the best dining experiences I ever had! The food was just DELICIOUS, and the service was EXCELLENT! I usually refrain dining alone at the restaurants, but I had no problem dining alone at theGREATROOM. The restaurant has very open feel with lots of corner tables for me to have a little more privacy at the same time. TVs are located everywhere so no matter where you sit, you will have something to watch :) The restaurant seems great for the group too! From the appetizer to dessert, everything was just perfect. If you are in Fremont / East Bay / Bay Area / etc, I highly recommend theGREATROOM!
I was pleasantly surprised to find a warm welcome along with my food in front of me within reasonable timing. The wait time was just right and long enough for me to order a drink from the bar first. The burger I had was incredible and I can't wait to come back. One of the most important things is my server was there when I needed him and didn't overly drop by to question me every 5 seconds. They gave me just the space I wanted with excellent service. I couldn't help but write a review about how pleased I was with my dinner that night. Thank you. :)
