Marrakech Moroccan Restaurant
Great food and nice surprise with appropriate entertainment: belly-dancing. Tastefully done and not a huge distraction.
We were actually VERY disappointed. This is supposed to be a Moroccan restaurant with Moroccan music and belly dancing. The “ambience “ of the night was LOUD rap music making it impossible to talk or enjoy.
Very disappointing- we will never go back.
Great food! Show starts at 8pm so consider this if you want to see the show book dinner for later.
Good food and excellent ambiance and dancer but very slow and inconsistent service.
The food is amazing, even the chicken, which I don't generally think of as anything special, was amazing. The service is good, but the music is overwhelmingly loud. If you want to dance, and have some amazing food, this is a good spot. I would not recommend it for someone trying to have a quiet conversation.
this is just my opinion. I find the place kind of expensive. I prefer people look at yelp or something similar to yelp. or they experience going to this place and enjoy the DJ and belly dancer.
This is a dining experience. You should plan to be there for several hours and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. Good service and entertainment are excellent!
Family Christmas dinner
We loved our time on Christmas day!!
We really enjoyed the food and the friendly atmosphere. We went on Christmas and it would have been helpful if they listed that there was a limited menu on their website. We enjoyed the food and the service. The part that was lacking is that it really needs to be remodeled inside. The cushioned seating is very warn out and it can be a bit of a turn-off but when you taste the food it kind of makes up for it.
This place is ok but could be so much better with a few tweaks to it's service. The couscous royal was disappointing relative to other North African restaurants I have visited in Europe. The meat portions was generous but instead of serving everything on a plate, they should provide the meat, couscous semoule, and vegetables broth separately, with more generous amounts of broth and semoule. Thé décor was nice though.
The food was good and the dancing/show was amazing. It took 3 hours for dinner and at times we thought we were forgotten. One of our dinner courses was not brought out. Wouldn’t go back to this restaurant but would go for Moroccan food again.
We went there to celebrate my friends Birthday. We had eaten there years ago and really enjoyed it. But now the restaurant is so old, dirty and dilapidated. They were short servers. Service was terrible. And then when it came time to pay, they practically pulled the money out of our hands. Very sad, should have been a great dinner and occasion, but it was just a disappointment.
The food was great, especially the shrimp kebabs. However, the service was slow. We made a reservation for 5 pm. When we arrived they were not open. We were let in at around 5:10 but they seemed to not really be open. When we were able to order at 5:30, we asked how long the dinner set would take. The server indicated about 1 hour for all the courses. We went ahead an ordered, indicating we had to leave 7 for a show. We ended up having to ask to make sure our main course would come in time. We also had to take our baklava to go.
The decor is pretty cool u til you look more closely and see the exposed wires where the walls meet the ceiling. Service started okay and deteriorated. Couldn’t get a servers attention after a while. For most of our stay there were people carrying glassware and glassware empty bins back and forth to the bar right in front of us. Shouldn’t that be done before the restaurant opens? The eggplant salad and bread were delicious as was the lamb tagine. The vegetarian couscous was tasteless. No spices at all and very bland and the veggies were overcooked.
So a mixed bag but not good enough to entice me back.
For sure of the places you have to visit to experience a different culture. The belly dancer was amazing! Food is good but very different definitely. I really liked the dj and music a lot!
Maybe because I read so many rave reviews, I expected more. I ordered couscous and vegetables and it was good, but lacked flavor. I was with a large group (9) and overall the feedback regarding the food was "okay or good". Staff was very nice, but seemed a tiny bit frazzled. The dancer we saw was amazing. However; we expected the entertainment to begin at 8 and it started much later, so we only saw the first one. We waited quite a while to get our credit card picked up and returned, which was a bummer. I might consider trying it again, but with a smaller group. Although, I had requested a private or semi-private area we were given a long couch in the main area which made it very difficult to communicate with one another. I did really enjoyed the overall ambiance and décor.
Our dinner was truly an experience. The ambiance and decor coupled with the music and belly dancing made for a magical evening. We were given towels and there was a washing hands ceremony before the dinner arrived, all fabulous sweet and savory dishes. The vegetarian couscous was delicious and the service could not have been better. Highly recommend!
Incredible place to visit and eat at. Family owned. Treated us extremely well. I was only thrown off by the fact that people seemed to play musical chairs with the seats. You would get seated, then moved (except it wasnt in the lobby as much as in the actual dining place.). I highly recommend coming here again.
First and only diner after opening for the day, however slow service. Had to ask for cocktail twice. When finally received entree, not what I ordered. Sent back but ran out of time to eat prior to appointment . Requested remainder of order to go. Brought out partial order. Finally got it right so I could leave after being there for one hour.
One of SF’s best hidden gems. Awesome for special celebrations and dates. Fantastic food and fun entertainment.
Unique Morrocan Ambience With Cushioned Seating & Meal Served On A Circular Brass Table In Front Of You. Our Food Was Delicious--Particularly My Shish Kabob!! And The Belly Dancer Was Entertaining-Making For A Great Evening In Marrakech While In San Francisco!!!
Great experience. Really good food.
Delicious food and incredible service! A dining experience to remember!
The food was delicious, especially the humous and couscous. We loved the atmosphere.
Gym towels for serviettes, more holes than carpet, not sure why this was rated so highly. Belly dancer was good but the place had strip club vibes
Excellent food and customer service
Fantastic place to be at on weekend. Really Enjoyed food and belly dance
Food and service were good, but it was pretty empty. We went at 7:15 on Tuesday night and were the only ones there, finally 2-3 more tables filled around 8:30 or so. Belly dancing was good.
The people were warm and inviting the service was excellent and the food was even better
Bit of a disappointment. Just returned from Morocco and were looking forward to this meal. Lamb tagine was tasty but fatty. Chicken with couscous was bland. Eggplant appetizer was mediocre. Belly dancer pretty much ignored us seniors. Bread and Morroccan wine was good.
Food was great and the service was terrific!
We went to celebrate a birthday and were not disappointed!!!
Fantastic place to go with friends. the food was generally delicious although I feel there was not a great variety either. the dishes could be ordered either lamb or chicken but the menu was the same.
the decoration is fabulous, for example, the food is served at low tables. It is a bit uncomfortable but very authentic.
There was a live show that starts around 8:30 pm. that was very good
It was not as great as I thought it would be. It was very dark. Mostly to hide the holes in the upholstery. The downstairs a
This is my favorite "hidden" spot. Food comes out slow, but I LOVE THIS PLACE, washing the hands, amazing food, belly dancers, hookah, ambiance, LOVE IT!
Delicious food. Graciously served. Wish we lived closer.
Valentines Day Date Night
Amazing Experience, great food and ambiance. Worth visiting again.
This was a Great time for my birthday celebration because of everyone at the restaurant
Wonderful place, especially for something "different." Yummy food (we had lamb tagine, chicken kebab, lamb with honey and almonds) and dinner option is worth it, comes with: soft fresh white bread; 3-appetizer plate (although one is just lettuce); bastila--a flavorful sweet chicken all the mint/honey tea you can drink, and baklava for dessert. Allergy note: many dishes have nuts (almonds or pistachios or walnuts); almost no seafood except one dish with prawns. And wonderful ambiance: soft colored lights, no kitchen sounds, muted-colorful fabrics and patterns everywhere, friendly service from servers with limited English. Around 8:00 pm belly dancer started, wonderful (tradition is to give her cash which she tucks into her costume). All tasteful and completely fine for a family; we had 3 teens who loved it all including the food, and another family with a very young child was there too. At same time, romantic setting for the couples. We all enjoyed warm water poured over our hands occasionally, and the skill of the server who poured our tea from a spout held about 30" high above the cup. We'll for sure be back. Hint: if you have the time, *definitely* go to the magic show with Jay Alexander downstairs after or before dinner--you'll laugh out loud and be amazed. Huge hit with teens!
