Maro Wood Grill
Maro Wood Grill has been awarded for \"best burger\" in Laguna Beach, two years in a row for \"Most Delicious Dessert\" in Orange County and serves traditional gnocchi\"s every 29th of the month.
The food is good, if not authentic Argentine in any way shape or form. The prices are quite high for the meal served.
Great atmosphere, quiet week night dinning experience. Food was cooked nicely, season was strong.
Excellent steak, grilled artichokes and shisito peppers! Chris the server is outstanding!
Excellent place for organic food grilled over a wood fire. Highly recommend!
Outstanding! Friends suggested Maro Wood Grill and I thought it was pizza! It was amazing Argentina style steaks!!
Parking is pretty difficult in Laguna Beach as a rule. This restaurant did have five spaces in front. Two spaced were coned off for some reason.
The menu was very limited. The portions were skimpy and overpriced for what we got. The waiter was pretty scarce and didn't seem particularly interested in whether we were happy with our meals. We ordered two appetizers. One was a special sausage on toast. I don't think I have ever seen a baguette small enough to get such a small slice of bread. There were four little slices of toast topped with two small bites of sausage...nothing else. The second appetizer we ordered was fire-grilled artichoke. We got one of the smallest artichokes I've ever seen. It was grilled but with no flavor and virtually raw on the outside...oddly the small heart was cooked. Must have been microwaved then grilled.
My dinner was a wedge salad. Surprisingly it was not a wedge of nice crisp lettuce. Instead it was a little plate of limp, chopped, wet lettuce. I think I tasted a little bleu cheese and only saw something that looked like a couple of specs that may have been bacon...couldn't tell from the taste. Another person in our party ordered the rotisserie chicken breast. The portion looked more like a game hen breast and drumette. There was a dab of some sort of veggies on the small plate. And there was definitely more plate showing than food. Another lady in our group ordered the strawberry salad which almost filled the small plate. She said it was "ok". My sweetheart ordered the burger. This was decidedly the best value. Nice plump burger and bun. No fries though. Just a few tiny roasted potatoes.
No offer of any condiments.
No interest in whether our meal was good.
No offer to serve us even a little slice of bread.
No attempt to keep us on time for the theatre...we got there at 5:30 and made it to the Laguna Playhouse at 7:29...play started at 7:30.
Never will dine at Maro again. There's nothing to go back for.
Excellent wood fired grill. Tenderloin and sides were prepared well and quality of the steak was excellent. Most of the seating is outdoors facing PCH and it can be noisy from the cars. Service was prompt and excellent.
Everyone at our table expectations of the food were excited!! What a treat!!..and great service!!
We had the most amazing meal celebrating with our friends! We shared delicious appetizers - roasted okra, shishito peppers and a burrata salad. Whole branzino and bone in grass fed filet were spectacular!! Banana bread pudding and flourless chocolate desserts were out of this word. As always, Alex was a wonderfully engaging and gracious host. See you guys again very soon!!
Food Came out cold. The lights kept wavering from where you can almost see to where you couldn’t even read the menu. Noise was extreme from the outside.
We visited them last year and was pleased and that is the reason we came back. Total disappointment.
Had reservation's and arrived on time but their was a wait to be seated in the main dining area even tho they had open tables. Opted for the bar instead, and service was still a little slow.
The food was excellent, real Argentinian wood-fired flavor was spectacular.
Service was incredibly prompt and informative, really liked the people.
Parking is a bit difficult but hey, it's Laguna Beach.
I've lived in Laguna Beach since 2007 but do not go out to eat much. The Maro Wood Grill experience was absolutely 4-star (out of 5). I ordered the Maro Burger and it was the best burger I have ever eaten outside of my own home.
The price was slightly higher than I would normally pay, but in all I would say it was worth the money.
Fantastic food and excellent service. Try the Branzino if you like fish. The steak as always is fabulous. The owner Alex took really good care of us.
Best place for dinner. We have been here many times, we bring friends who have not visit this restaurant, and everyone loves it!!!
Disappointing. Went for our anniversary dinner - we ordered a number of appetizers, which were average and the dirty plates were never removed from our small 2-top table to make room for the entrees. As for the entrees, I had the lamb chops, three small chops which were 80% fat, and my husband had the skirt steak, which was fine, but we both left hungry. Didn't even order dessert as our experience with the apps and entrees was so disappointing. We figured we could get better at home. Considering we spent $200 for the two of us with a single bottle of wine, two appetizers and two entrees, we expected more.
The food and service at Maro are outstanding. We love coming here! The lamb chops are to die for. Perfect for a date or small group.
Had dinner early and was only people there. Service was adequate. Thought the food was overpriced. Had a hamburger and I don't care how much it cost but the burger should be the size of the bun. Bugs were also a nuisance,
The only thing, was we were there with friends from UK, and it was approximately 9.45PM we were the last and they started flashing the lights??? We were leaving, but it would of been better to come and inform us rather than be rude and flash the lights.
Our waiter was wonderful and accommodating. The food was great and ambience lovely.
It was a beautiful evening. My boyfriend and I are celebrating our one year anniversary. We really enjoyed the food and the service.
Fabulous food from the wood grill. It's not cheap, but it's worth it. Tasted 3 grass fed cuts ordered by my table, and one was better than the next. I had a whole Brazino, deboned and delicious.
Great food, like the grass fed beef, that wood fired grill makes it taste great, the veggies are all healthy and have the great flavor, love the spinach empanadas, parking can be tight so best to park around the block as the spaces a thin in front of the restaurant
Started with grilled artichoke and cream of mushroom soup. Tastiest artichokes I’ve ever had. Had prime rib and it had a good smoky flavor, but my personal preference would have added salt. Overall great experience. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff!
Chicken and empanadas were good. All the veggies had an extreme smoke flavor. Small portions for the price.
Good food and service. Outdoor seating near coast highway
Absolute stunning restaurant. Excellent service and quality of food.
Great little spot. But the loud music and street noise made conversation at times nearly impossible.
Service was a bit slow but food was excellent. Right on PCH so there is traffic noise.
A bit high priced for the portions but the food was worth it.
Intimate restaurant about a mile south of the bustling Laguna Downtown Area: a short trolley ride. Food was exceptional, staff very professional and accommodating. Would highly recommend.
This place is a small and perfect place to have dinner, it's not large and I loved that. The empanadas were to die for, even thr baseball steak definitely recommend this place. But our host was the best part he made us laugh and enjoy our dinner.
Best top sirloin stake in town, better than Mastro's by far..it melts in the mouth..so much flavor too! We love their empanadas too
Wonderful food and great service, the real wood gril makes for delicious meats, the wine selction was great, the empandas were superb the service was great.
highly recommended !
I've been excited to try the restaurant. The reviews looked great, I love Argentina style cuisine and was intrigued by the menu offerings. Unfortunately the entrees did not live up to our expectations. When I asked the waiter what was good, he said everything was as it was grass feed. I heard him give a much better description to another table. I ordered the lamb, it was okay. I do have to say the grilled artichoke appetizer was excellent and the custard dessert a refreshing end to the meal. I'd go back for the artichoke and a charcuterie plate but probably not the entrees.
Fantastic restaurant!! Food and service were exceptional. Definitely make a reservation and check it out.
Had poor service, all the tables around us seemed to have much better service than us. The food was okay, wasn’t impressed for how expensive it was.
One of the best restaurants in Laguna. Alex, the owner. is lovely and very accommodating
Great food, great service. We are coming here for our wedding reception. Can’t wait!
As always, Maro Wood Grill offered a great meal, with great service. We brought friends who had not been at MWG and they loved it, and will return for sure. They love wine, they were going to bring their own bottle of wine, but left it at home, and our waiter provided delicious choices and they were very impressed with the wine selection. I would love to see another location in Corona Del Mar, we need a good Argentinian stake house in our area. Thank you again for making meals as delicious as you do!!
great food! great! enjoyed the location and is very easy to access
