About Marnee Thai - Ann Arbor

The Thai word “Marnee” literally means “gemstones,” which are dazzling, colorful, and highly precious. Thai rubies and sapphires are very well known all over the world. Similarly, we at Marnee Thai carefully select high quality herbs and ingredients to make sure all of our Thai dishes retain their original authenticity. Our first Thai restaurant in the U.S., Lotus Thai (opened in 2002, on Oak Valley Drive, Ann Arbor), has been well received by customers who seek authentic Thai food. This enthusiastic reception encourages us to open our second restaurant in the U.S., right in downtown Ann Arbor, Marnee Thai.

We waited an hour for our food and the overall service was poor at best. The food was also very expensive. Of our two dishes, one was quite good and the other pretty bad. Overall, there are better Thai places to choose from in the area.

The food was well prepared. The coconut curry chicken was very good. My date enjoyed it more than the stir fry that she ordered (which was still good). The chicken satays were good, but the peanut sauce that came with them was exceptional. Spiciness levels were perfect. Portion sizes were large. We probably ate half of our entrees and took the remainders home. The amount of rice was just a little on the small size, considering how large the entrees were. Service was very good, even though our server admitted that he was not a regular server. The server was very attentive in regards to our beverages. Also, he easily fulfilled (twice) our request for some slices of lime.

Another great meal at Marnee Thai. A busy night, yet the food came quickly thanks to the hustling waitstaff and managers. Waitress pleasant and helpful. Food spiced to your liking. Gr at authentic options.

Nice place. Went with a party of 5 before a football game. Very friendly service. Food was good and served in a timely manner. I would recommend as a pre-game location.

Booked for 15. They then called & said could only accommodate 12. Food was very low quality, with a few dishes being inedible. No liquor license, so drink choices were limited. Only one server for entire restaurant, and he had a poor attitude. I realize people just have a bad night, but it didn’t help the overall impression. Also, the view is of a gas station.

I have dined at Marnee Thai twice now and both time really enjoyed my food! The menu offers a wide variety of choices and you can adjust your spice level on most dishes (a must for a wuss like me when it comes to spicy food!). It can be served plated or family style so it's a good place for big groups or friends that want to eat a little bit of everything. I've left both times with left overs so it's a good value too. My only complaint is about the bar, I would love to see them expand their selection a bit and carry some more variety, especially in wine. I think there are 3-4 beer options, and 4-5 each of white and red wines. While all the bottles are very reasonably priced, I'd prefer to see a couple more expensive options because the wine we drank was by no means a great wine -- you get what you pay for though! The only thing to add about this specific visit was that we were asked to leave at the end of the night, politely enough, but asked to leave nonetheless. We had just boxed up our food and were using the bathroom -- we were a large group (10) so this wasn't quick given that they only have single stalls -- it was 9:35 and they had stopped serving at 9:15. I was told by the servers "not to rush you, but the owners need to lock up because they want to get to their other restaurant". At which point I noticed that the 3 people sitting in the corner booth were not customers but the owners. They had not been there all night so why they suddenly needed to lock up and leave was beyond me, or why one of them couldn't move on as we finished up -- it just didn't make sense. I don't blame the server because he was probably being told by the owner, but they didn't even make an effort to ask us how the meal was or if we enjoyed ourselves, he didn't even smile when I told him we'd be on our way as soon as everyone used the bathroom. Even after a wonderful meal with family in from out of town (out of the country, actually!) I was really rubbed the wrong way by this.

Disappointed after all the things I'd read. Slow service. We ordered appetizers that never came. They didn't have wine they listed and the server presented the dessert menu with a dismissive air... "we only have...."

My wife and I dine at Marnee often. The food is always very well prepared; and the restaurant is fairly quiet (save during Restaurant Week, which is what we encountered a few nights ago); and the service is excellent. Marnee is a real stand-out in Ann Arbor, a town full of very noisy (and often pretentious) restaurants that are not as good.

I was surprised when I entered to see only two other patrons present on a Saturday night in prime time; and then 20 minutes later my party of 2 was all that remained. The soup, Tom Yong, was good though the soup of my accompanying party was lukewarm at best. Our appetizer of Chicken Larb had almost no flavor; disappointing! I then had Mixed Vegetables which was good and my accompanying party had the Pad Siew, which was just OK. The experience was not to the level that would cause me to return. My search for the best Thai in Ann Arbor continues. Used to be Tuptim, but the owners retired and sold the business, and for some reason the new owners don't believe in the adage that, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

My favorite dish is their crispy duck for $22, but when we went it was dry and not tasty. Just a couple of spoonfuls of sauce. The spring rolls were good, however. Probably will not go there again soon.

I love going to Marnie Thai. The wait staff are always friendly and efficient. The food is yummy . . . my favorites are: spring rolls, vegetable fried rice, chicken pad prig, and mixed vegetables. The food is freshly prepared with a spice option of mild, medium or hot. We like the mild plus. The food is consistently good :)

We made a reservation here because it was graduation weekend in Ann Arbor and I had left it quite late and this was one of the few reservations still available. So my expectations were not particularly high. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. I was expecting average and actually the food was delicious. I would go back and I would recommend it.

We were visiting in Ann Arbor and wanted to get some Thai food. We changed our reservation at the last minute to accommodate two more people, and they rearranged our seating area without any issues. Food was authentic, and if you want spicy, you'll get it here! We had a variety of foods on the menu, and had more than enough to eat so that a couple of "to go" boxes left with us. The place is small, and decor relatively plain, but if you are in the mood for Thai food, you'll not be disappointed.

Marne Thai was experiencing a busy weekend due to U if MI graduation. Our table was readily available, however service was slow. A very thoughtful gesture was to serve complimentary spring rolls while we waited. The food was tasty and we enjoyed sharing several entrees. The green curry which is my " go to " Thai dish was much spicier at the "medium" heat level than I typically experience.

Didn't seem that busy, but food took 45 minutes to get to the table. Glasses were empty for long stretches of time. Peanuts in the stir fry were old, had turned. Used to be a really good Thai spot. Maybe it was just an off night, but I probably won't go back. Too many other good spots in AA.

The best Thai in Ann Arbor, and the best deal in downtown. Hard working, prompt servers. Great variety of vegetarian options. The mixed appetizer is missable (a collection of fried selections) but the main dishes and noodles are nicely done. If you want truly spicy items, their curries can be quite hot. If you prefer milder spice, just say so.

the dinner was very good. However, the service was extremely slow because a server didn't show that evening so it was all on a very kind young lady who did an excellent job.
I had pad thai, which was very good except for one problem. The noodles were toooooo long to eat them. They were tasty but I had no knife to cut them. And as they cooled they became more sticky. I wish I had a sauce to thin it out so I could eat better.
Please make sure you have enough servers and please make sure you either give a knife for the pad thai noodles or make them shorter.

I don't think I would eat-in here again, but I would definitely order takeout. This is the best Thai place I've found in Ann Arbor thus far. Good Tom Kha Gai and Drunken Noodles, but kind of a weird vibe in the restaurant.

We have visited Marnee Thai a handful of times, and enjoy both the food and their quality of service. Their drunken noodles and fried rice are both very good! There "spiciness" ratings are very generous, as in common with Thai food, so be careful! We also especially like their Tuxedo Mousse Cheesecake, though we have not seen it recently.

Went here for Restaurant week so it was expectedly busier than normal. Service was a little slow but considering they only had two servers they did very well. Food is exceptional - very traditional Thai flavors and good heat. We had the vegetarian spring rolls (served crispy and hot), pad thai (crushed peanuts a nice touch on top), and chicken panang (great flavors!)...all super yummy. We'll be back after restaurant week is over.

Food was very, good and the spice level was where we expected it to be. Was a little disappointed with the noodle dish, as it was a lot of noodles and not a lot of there flavors. The kids however loved it. The cashew chicken was outstanding. Terrific flavors, especially if you wanted something without the coconut curry.

Although we are not experts on Thai cuisine, may wife and I were very pleased with the selection and the preparation of our meals. The prices are reasonable and the dinners were very delicious. Large selection of appetizers and many entres to choose from. We were not rushed and were able to take our time dining. The service was very good and knowledgeable. They have wine and beer only and the selection is good. The restaurant is in a very accessible spot in Ann Arbor, right on Main Street. We will definitely go back to this nice restaurant in the future and we recommend it to others who enjoy Asian cuisine and specifically Thai cuisine.
