Marmalade Restaurant in Old San Juan is truly a gem with Michelin star-quality fare. Chef Peter Schintler was gracious enough to come by and chat with us.
Everything was outstanding! Our favorites were the pacific yellowtail poke, their signature tiny white bean soup, foie gras, homemade Gnocchi, pork belly & diver scallop surf-n-turf, and Choco-L8 dessert. The Cereal Killer liquid dessert was also amazing.
Amazing service! Beautiful, creative dishes. Fit for the most discerning foodies!
Outstanding food and outstanding service, from the manager to the chef to the staff, they were delightful and the food was amazingly good. My new favorite restaurant in Puerto Rico. :) Oh, and the wine pairings were perfect!
Amazing food, incredible wine pairings and good portion sizes. Incredible experience!!
The whole experience was amazing. We went for our one year anniversary and it was amazing. Big shout out to our waiter Eric. He went above and beyond to make our night special! We will be back very soon!
One of my top 5 restaurants in the world. We did the 6 course food and wine pairing. They worked around my wife’s seafood allergy and the food and wine were over the top. If you are in San Juan and Don’t eat here you have missed an opportunity of a lifetime.
This was the BEST experience! Food and service were exceptional!
The white bean truffle soup and truffle noodles were pretty good. We got a couple other items that I can’t really remember what they were so they obviously weren’t that great if they aren’t rememberable. The service was okay. Not the greatest. Overall I doubt I’d be coming back.
Impeccable from in the door to out the door. In a sea of 5 star reviews, Marmalade continues to be a 6 star experience & why we always dine here when visiting San Juan. Kudos to front of the house (Rafael) and the back of the house. The hostess ensures celebrating tables are enhanced with rose petals. Our server Lisa took care of each detail (water, cutlery, etc.) proactively & unobtrusively. We ordered the wine pairings which enhanced each dish we ordered. The food was sublime with the house favorite white bean soup a de rigueur option. Favorites included the paella, pasta, lamb tagine, and cod. Am I gushing? Yes, and is rare for me to do so. Thank you!
Súper romantic and attentive to all our needs. Extremely informative and accommodating. Made me feel super special.
We had a great night at Marmalade. We were there to celebrate my husband and brother in law 50th birthdays. The atmosphere is nice. The food is outstanding! We appreciated the good selection of vegan dishes. We chose the wine pairing and I loved all the wines selected with the food we had. If I ever go back to Puerto Rico I will go back to Marmalade for a lovely dinner!
The nicest and most knowledgeable staff I have ever been served by. Professional and Five Star. Felt at home in the fanciest restaurant I have personally ever been in. Everything was perfect.
Amazing food!! We really enjoyed this restaurant and highly recommend!!
Excellent service. Chef brought out a course personally. Our server Zack was knowledge and friendly. Very accommodating for a variety of diets. Our group with 2 vegetarians, 1 gluten free and 1 carnivore all left full and happy. Best meal I've had in a long time!
The entire experience dining at Marmalade was absolutely phenomenal. Our server Lisa was so polite, friendly, knowledgeable and very professional with such class, she made our evening even more enjoyable. The flavors of each course were extraordinary. Thank you all for yet another memorable dining experience.
The service at Marmalade was truly outstanding. Went for grown-up Mothers Day dinner and had a marvelous experience. The food was impeccable. Our server was a delight and extremely accommodating. The setting was cute and lovely. Highly recommend.
We've been trying to go to Marmalade for more than 5 years, but couldn't make it work with our trips to PR. But it was worth the wait. The restaurant is quite small, but accommodating. Sitting at the long communal table made for some quick conversations. The Cocktails, The Food and The Service were all 5 Stars. The prices are incredibly reasonable for that level; similar food and service would be 3 times the price in any major city. All the food was great, but the white bean soup was amazing.
The food and drinks were so pricey and really not worthy. The food was good, not excellent. Not impressed at all with the restaurant.
Wonderful anniversary experience - still one of our all time favorite restaurants worldwide!
The whole experience was wonderful. Service was great in that every dish was explained so you could taste the layers of flavors. It is expensive but we felt like the experience was worth the price.
Peter is truly an artist. His food is exceptional. My husband and I did the 6 course tasting menu and were blown away by every single course. Thank you for another unforgettable experience.
Very good food and the bean soup was remarkable but if you plan to charge Daniel Boulud prices, the. You have to meet those standards. Don’t get me wrong, the food is very good and I liked the variety, but some items were just good and not remarkable. I’m sure this is an unfair thought but having at at Boulud’s and having a tasting menu for the same price, there was no comparison.
Please note, the staff are exceptional and the wine pairings were exceptional. Course by course:
Tuna Tartare - good but the creativeness of the homemade crackers didn’t translate into a more enjoyable experience.
White bean soup - ok, this is absolutely remarkable and I’m glad to have eaten at this restaurant for a bite of this soup. It might be worth the money alone.
Truffle pasta - good not great. A bit one note. It could be more complex.
Scallops and pork belly - again, very good but not remarkable. It was well done but not as complex as I would hope
Paradiso baked Alaska - I liked this. Very nice but in a week I won’t think back to thus dessert and say we should go back so I can get this.
I wrestle with the price/value here. If I had the soup and scallop dish, I’d probably be singing praises soless is mire here.
I truly appreciate the comparative to Daniel as I have eaten there several times and also worked there as well in the mid 1990's. Restaurant Daniel daily offers his base tasting menu according to his page at $135 for a three course meal....$205 for Mother's Day. Marmalade"s three course tasting Menu is $59 per person which was $49 before the Hurricanes. As for the wine pairing at Marmalade....11 years consecutive Wine Spectator Awarded pairings offering 4 glasses of wine for $45 Chef Peter
Innovative clean fine-dining utilizing fresh and flavorful ingredients. Gorgeous decor with a variety of seating arrangements for a unique experience every time. Outstanding service with well-informed staff. Highly recommend Marmalade (from a N.Y. foodie).
This was my second visit and they did not disappoint. The food here is outstanding, the service is great. The Lobster Risotto is unbelievable, I could eat this all day everyday. I do believe the prices are a little much, charging $14 for water seems a bit silly when you are paying a premium for fine dining
Service was great. The food left a lot to be desired. 3 of our 4 courses were poorly or under flavored. Missed the mark for what I would expect from a establishment at this price range. Had much better dinners elsewhere during our stay.
Very interesting menu. Superb food served in a magical setting. Moroccan influences. Extremely comfortable chairs and roomy tables that are well separated from one another.
This restaurant is definitely a must in Old San Juan. It is definitely on the pricey side but it is 100% worth it. The staff is so friendly and sweet. The food is really out of this world. Their white bean soup is a must try. They’ve been serving it for 15 years. Anytime I come to PR i have to eat at this restaurant. Their desserts are amazing as well. They have this baked Alaska ...soooo good! The portions are decently sized as well. I tried their jimi Hendricks cocktail. So light and refreshing. Can’t go wrong with anything on their menu.
Always a pleasure to return and embark upon a new outstanding culinary experience.
Literally the BEST restaurant in San Juan!
Amazing food and service!!!
10 out of 10
We came here on our vacation and loved it! Fantastic restaurant! Food is beautiful! We did the 4 course which is more than enough. Great experience all around!
The food was as amazing as you’d expect. The tuna and chickpea appetizer, the lobster risotto, and the snapper ceviche were amongst our favorite items. The Chocolate Block South African Shiraz was also a fun discovery. We booked late so had to choose between the bar or the high top tables and choose the high top it was still a great experience. Pro tip - bring a jacket or wrap as they pump the AC!
Love Marmalade! Lucky enough to pick this place out our guide book years ago. Now we won’t come to San Juan and not eat here! Food and wine pairing is amazing! Always order the white bean soup! Our waiter Jose was amazing and we can’t wait to come back! They made our Anniversary amazing!
This is a not to be missed restaurant! This was our second visit and our friends first. The furniture and fabrics have been redone since the hurricane.
The selection and quality of the food , presentation and service are impeccable. The staff and chef are friendly and warm. It’s one of the best restaurants we’ve ever had the pleasure of dining at and should not be missed.
Amazing restaurant! Definitely Recommend! Service and food were exceptional!
Spectacular meal. Best quality ingredients and the chef is a genius at combining flavors. It is not to be missed when visiting San Juan.
The food was delicious. We had the four-course tasting menu per recommendation of the waiter and it was very satisfying. Loved the poke appetizer. The chef came over to talk to us and we had a long fascinating chat. It looked like he tries to talk to everyone.
One of my top 3 restaurants in my world! Peter is always there making sure you get the best experience and he delivers every time! I never miss it when I travel to San Juan!
Palate pleasing...amazing restaurant. The attention to detail is unbelievable. This was my 3rd time at Marmalade and it never disappoints. Unique in every way. The only item that has never been taken off of the menu is the tiny white bean soup...once you taste it you will know why...rich, creamy and decadent. The drinks are just as unique as the food and the staff are so knowledgeable about the food prep and the ingredients...I highly recommend it to everyone who visits Old San Juan Puerto Rico. A true gem!
