Excellent lunch in a nice quiet atmosphere. It is one of the few "old Boston" places still around.

I order steak frites and was disappointed. The plate came mostly loaded with fries that looked like they had been thrown on the plate. The waiter had to turn the plate so that the small portion of steak was visible. It appeared to be about 4 ounces and at least a quarter of it was fat.
On a more positive note, my friend ordered the scallops, which were beautifully presented and she really enjoyed them.

I've been to Marliave for drinks on a number of occasions and had a great time. With guests in town, I thought it would be nice to take them out for dinner. Out of the 6 meals we ordered 3 of them were incorrect. First, I ordered a beet salad. No indication that this would be an appetizer size. There was 1 beet on the plate. It specified goat cheese, arugula and candied walnuts. No candied walnuts and hardly any goat cheese with a sprinkle of arugula. I had to eat the bread on the table to feel like I had a full meal. Second issue was that one of my guests had ordered a side of brussel sprouts... these came.... AFTER all our plates had been cleared from the table, as if it was dessert. And lastly, another guest ordered the lobster and gnocchi dish... guess what... it had lobster... but NO gnocchi. Absolutely pathetic for a $36 plate. Do better.

Lots of things on the drink menu weren’t available, the Wellington was overcooked (like last time) even after explicitly asking that they be careful. Disappointing for a former mainstay of ours.

I've been to the Marliave many times over the years but never enjoyed everything quite so much as I did this time. My friend and I were there after 1:00 so it was pretty quiet and the service was correspondingly prompt and relaxed. We had fairly casual lunch food and fairly expensive wine and it was all just lovely. We sat in the sunny street-side area, so that's sort of modern and featureless -- not filled with old-Boston ambiance like the other side, but we were comfortable and all was well. I was glad to be back after a long time.

Best darn Mac and cheese I’ve ever had. The Republican cabal drink was really good, as was the chocolate cake dessert. The chicken dish and the steak frites were good- the truffles fries were really good, but the risotto was salty and the meats were a bit over cooked.

Overall, Marliave was disappointing. The food was good, but the service was not. Our waiter was slow and inattentive. When another server placed food in front of my date, they spilled it over onto the plate edge and onto the tablecloth. The $1 oysters were some of the worst I’ve had - they were small and gritty, with shell fragments in every single one. The waiter took forever to get us the check, it was borderline ridiculous. We were so excited to try Marliave, but we won’t be back.

We went for Boston Restaurant Week and it could not have been better!! We sat outside and the ambience was beautiful. The menu was huge, by far the biggest of any restaurant for Restaurant Week! The sliders and fondue were fabulous, the Steak Friets were delicious and desert was amazing!! Will definitely go back again.

Extremely noisy.

Went for Boston Restaurants Week. They had the most and best choices on the menu considering it was restaurants week. Escargot was amazing, beef Wellington was perfectly cooked, beet salad was an artwork and very good too. Good selection of French food. The restaurant itself was a little bit old in terms of the look and smell. Located in not the nicest area, but it's definitely a hidden gem!

Although changed from the Marliave we remember from years past, it is still a lovely old fashioned restaurant. The missing star is due to the fact that two of our diners were disappointed that the steak frites did not include a vegetable. The staff was helpful, efficient, and most of all, pleasant. Our visit was during restaurant week, but it would be good during the rest of the year, too.

Great place, great food. We came during restaurant week so one person got the 3 course for $25, incredible deal.

One note - I’ve never seen piccata served without chicken, was a little frustrated to pay extra for a standard Italian dish.

All in all great experience, the atmosphere is so worth the price

This was one of the best meals I’ve eaten and the whole experience was beginning to end was lovely. It was our 35th anniversary, so we were given a quiet tables for two by a window. They had placed a sweet card of congratulations on the table and every single person who served us in any way congratulated us. Nice touch! I started with a wonderful glass of Bordeaux. For my meal I had the rarebits, the scallops with sweet potato ravioli and the butterscotch pudding with whipped cream and candied ginger. My husband had the Caesar salad, steak frites and molten chocolate cake. I savored every bite and the last bite was as good as the first. I sampled my husband’s choices and they were excellent as well. I would give 6 stars if I could!

The best restaurant week I have since I move to Boston in 2014. Snails, Wellington and truffle for only 38. One dollar fresh oyster between 4 -6. I would like to recommend all my friend to book a table.

Disappointing. This is about my tenth meal here in the last six years. I took two colleagues for lunch, neither had ever been. The French Onion soup, normally rich in flavor was bland and watery. The shrimp scampi was served lukewarm and the shrimp were also bland and overcooked. The pasta was alright, it had a nice consistency but again, it was lukewarm.

It is restaurant week so they are serving two courses for $20. You would hope that isn't an excuse to lower the quality in favor of quantity. Minor quibble, not the fault of the restaurant, but depending on which way the wind blows when sitting outside you will get whiffs of the nearby dumpsters for the restaurants and hotels adjacent to the alley in which the tables are located.

Me and my friend came to try this place out for restaurant week and the food here was amazing. I would definitely come back to try their other dishes. However, the only complaint I have was that our food took a while to come out. There were two tables who were seated next to us AFTER us and they got their food before our table did. We put in our orders before the tables next to us even got seated, yet somehow they got their food before us. I glanced over and saw that they had ordered almost the same dishes as us, but they got their food before our table did and that wasn't cool. Aside from that, the food was great here. For starters the escargot was amazing. My friend ordered the beef wellington and enjoyed it. I ordered the steak frites and it was also pretty good. For dessert I got the butterscotch pudding and my friend got the chocolate cake, we thought they were both just okay. Overall the food experience was great but the service could be better.

Marliave serves a useful purpose with a white tablecloth dining room in a neighborhood otherwise filled with bars. The upstairs dining room is reasonably spacious. The food is OK (but not exciting), and I appreciated the varied menu, which should have something to suit everyone. The noise level is high on a busy night. The wine by the glass is generous and well-priced.

Tiny easy to miss location but worth finding. Great meal. Loved the menu - very diverse. Got there for $1 oysters before our reservation and had 2 dozen lovely oysters. Bartenders are very good. It was difficult to choose because I loved the entire menu! I had a carpaccio appetizer and my husband had a melted cheese appetizer and both were outstanding. I then had the beef Wellington and he had the scallops and both were amazing. We finished with a local cheese plate and it was great as well. Highly recommend.

I gave them 3 stars because they attempted to create a plant based dining menu,
It was too bad for my insides, as I pooped my brains out several hours later
The meal began with an outstanding soup, what followed was over salted grilled caulifour
It sat beside a strange mass of rice like wet slop,
I don't know how they managed to make something over spiced, be so flavorless? I couldn't eat it
Dessert was a plate of blueberries and strawberries, with Tofutti cream cheese
As I ate, I watched slices of cake go by- dessert for regular dining customers
I felt that the meal represented Marliave's half assed attempt at branching out to other types of diners-
Too bad it didn't work
I wasted time and money here, that I could have put to better use in Central Square Cambridge-
This place has no excuse for this horrendous meal!

The food is consistently excellent. We love coming here and dream about the escargot between visits. Our waitress is all business, but we love that about her. Food comes domed, so it’s always piping hot. Cocktails are excellent as well. Tinned ceiling and old world charm bring us back to Paris. We will continue to call this one of our favorite restaurants.
