Great food and great service. Loved sitting upstairs. Can’t wait to go back!
$1 oysters from 4-6 daily, an excellent cocktail menu, and splurge-worthy entrees. Loved our table in the upstairs dining room.
While the dinner was wonderful, my husband and his friend both ordered the Beef Wellington, which was fabulous, BUT, that was all that was in the plate, they weren't told that no vegetable would be served with it at all, we all thought it was a bit odd, that while my friend and I we got a full meal, the beef wellington is all that you get....I think if it was served with just some greens, or any vegetable my husband would have liked the place more.
Love this place. Food is always excellent and served with a flare. Great selections. Romantic. Wait staff great. Awesome martinis
Despite being greeted by our server with "How are you gentlemen this evening?", my wife and I decided to chalk it up as an awkward start and move forward as we were meeting with friends we had not seen in a bit and were excited to try out a new local restaurant together. While our main dishes were across the board great, our server was constantly inattentive to our needs especially when he forgot to put in our appetizer order and we were continually waiting to place drink orders. He must've given up on us toward the end because our final interactions, including paying the bill, were with someone completely different. Hopefully this was a one off experience as the food was truly delightful but as far as first impressions go, this was not one that'd compel any of our party to return or recommend any time soon.
We had a concert at the Orpheum and I wanted to have dinner close by. Parked on Province St. Everything was close. The restaurant is old, been there for a while. Menu was eclectic. Many different choices. The clams were excellent. Beer good. Pasta excellent. Can't say anything bad about the food. Will go back there again.
Celebrated our Anniversary dinner with our family - everything was top notch from the Bartender- 1.00 Oysters- the waitstaff , the rare bits are to die for. Dinner was perfection if you haven’t been there it’s a must try
place is great, two bars, great drinks and bartenders...booths and tables on two floors of a great old Boston building....had a drink and oysters at the bar, then went upstairs for dinner...had the rabbit, was outstanding...my girl had a great seafood dish...the place is quaint, yet upscale in a non-arrogant way...love it...second time and will return
Perfect as always! ❤️
Really cozy spot in old Boston with an old-school atmosphere. Food was all top notch. Beef Wellington was perfect. Chicken was tender, Brussel Sprouts were delicious. Excellent cocktail offering. A great place for a date or romantic evening.
Overall the place was nice. All the workers were friendly and the service was fast. The food looked amazing but it was all bland. The Sunday Gravy looked amazing but had no flavor, same with the potatoes au gratin. The beef Wellington said medium rare but it was borderline inedible. If the food had more seasoning I would have been happier. Will try a second time to try and give it a second chance.
My girlfriend and myself went here to celebrate Valentine's Day. The service was excellent, our waitress was very friendly and made fantastic food suggestions. We were impressed with the detail and flavor in all the dishes we ate and particularly enjoyed the scallops entree; my girlfriend thought it was one of the best dishes she'd eaten. All in all we had a great night and plan to eat here again!
Good service, great food.
Marliave has been on a slide of late. Their food is not what it used to be and as other diners have commented, the people shucking the oysters leave bits of shell and dirt in there, not so good at $3/piece. The silver dome reveal is always cute. Sad that the quality is dropping.
Wonderful evening will be back, want to try several entree’s
Our first visit to Marliave was a treat! Beginning with cocktails in the bar, our charming bartender gave us the full history of this restaurant, one of the oldest in Boston.
Our table was being readied upstairs where we felt both a cozy warmth and a white tablecloth elegance... very appealing.
The dollar oysters are a terrific bargain and are so worth getting there before six o'clock! Our mushroom risotto was a kindly divided as we asked to share and when we requested that our grilled asparagus be returned to the kitchen for additional char, it was done with a smile. Great service! We will return.
This restaurant is a treasure. The staff is attentive and courteous, the food is wonderful, and the ambiance is special in part because it is up on the second floor and looks out over the gaslights from big windows. A very pleasant atmosphere and definitely my favorite in the area.
I dined here with business colleagues since it was literally just down an alley from our hotel. Many restaurants can have a fun drink menu without the quality to back it up, but Marilave didn't disappoint with classy, delicious drinks - the Jennie Churchill is my recommendation! The dinner menu also had a broad selection to satisfy even the fussiest eaters, and the historic ambience of one of Boston's oldest restaurants was a treat for out-of-towners.
We enjoyed our night out walking from the Omni Parker House to this cozy location. The exterior of the restaurant was pleasant with the side lights glowing. The views of the city lights at night was beautiful. The food was prepared wonderfully and our Beef Wellington was superb. Paying so much extra for a side dish, however, is ridiculous. The wait staff was very kind and pleasantly attentive. Th decor of the interior disappointed us. The minimalist approach is nice but as a food/travel photographer, it was difficult to find that one shot that set of the interior as unique. It felt almost as if the restaurant is still in the process of interior design planning perhaps. Photos are on my instagram account at thymephoto
A wonderful place to dine for a special occasion. Food was outstanding.
Not good. Such a lovely old time atmosphere, sort of hidden from view. Such horrible food, slow and inattentive service. Not recommendable at all. We will not be back.
My husband and I came here for my birthday based on all the great reviews and Marliave didn't disappoint. The food and cocktails were great and service was awesome too. Will definitely be coming back.
Great overall experience. The only negative was our host set us in the middle of an empty dining room and insisted that we couldn't take an empty window table instead. As a former host myself I understood that the tables are reserved in advanced so I was okay with it, but when our waitress came the first words out of her mouth were "Do you want to move to a window seat...?"
The Marliave is always outstanding and a reliable go to place.
Dollar oysters before 6 pm!
Service is attentive and swift. The covered dish presentation and second floor views provide a formal but comfortable ambiance.
Most of the food was good, except the 2 dozen oysters & clams we got, every single one had broken shell bits in it because they weren’t shucked properly....it was off-putting to say the least. However our server was great so that made for a great dinner.
We were looking for a restaurant in the theater district and found these guys online. Great back story on the origin and the pictures looked cool along with the extensive custom drink menu. When we arrived - better than we imagined. Dining room was upstairs and nice - outdoor place looked great (it was January so we didn't sit out there - but looked promising in the nice weather). Intrigued by the custom drink menu we were not disappointed. Appetizers were very good and interesting (I had scrambled eggs - no kidding). The entrees were good and we left feeling like you should feel after going out to a fun restaurant - full and happy. We will go back for sure - right around the corner from Boston Opera House.
Our 40th Anniversary celebration was enhanced when our server immeadiately got us a complementary glass of Prosecco to toast with. Service and food were very good and we will be back!
Always a hit
