I’m a student who wanted to do something nice for my anniversary and this restaurant was recommended to me by a colleague. My boyfriend and I went a little overboard so it was expensive: two small apps to share + two entrees + dessert to share + tip = $90. It was a great experience though, even if it was something I could only justify for a birthday, anniversary, or Valentine’s Day. The sliders are small but very tasty and we LOVED the house vanilla ice cream. A perfect way to end a pretty magical night.

Great food. Wonderful overall. We were 3 adults, a 4 year old and 3mos old. Sat first level and we were all very comfortable.

One of our favorites. You will not be disappointed. The food is absolutely beautiful and delicious. Also the only restaurant I've been to that reveals your meal from under a cloche. Also, get the tapioca for dessert.

Marliave has been our go to spot for anniversaries, valentine's day, etc. The food has always been excellent and the service is always super. The last visit did not to Marliave served up some dishes that have been great before and on this occasion (mussel app, beef wellington and the chocolate cake), however the shrimp scampi did not leave a good impression. The simplest way I could describe is the dish was prepared as normal and before plating the shrimp scampi was rinsed off and strained. The shrimp, sauce and pasta were watery and bland. Not our regular experience.

I go once a year to Marliave for a Mother Daughter date night for me and my mother, dinner and drinks, and then to The Nutcracker. The upstairs has wonderful ambiance and the service quick and friendly. I do not eat seafood so I can’t attest to that part of the menu but my mother has enjoyed the escargot and the salmon dish on numerous occasions. I’ve enjoyed everything from the Mac and cheese appetizer to the steak frites and of course dessert! The drinks are wonderful too. I enjoyed The Professor at this last visit. Rather, I enjoyed two! Thanks again, Marliave, for another great experience!

Our party of five (5), ranging from eight years old through seniors, completely enjoyed our dining experience, from beverages through dessert. We were in Boston to see the "Nutcracker" and found that the Marliave's location also offered great access to both parking and theaters.
We enjoyed the outstanding service, quality and presentation of each dish. (Don't forget to try their Tapioca pudding, unique, delicious and a truly memorable experience! ) Enjoy.

A charming, old restaurant located near Boston Common. We ate lunch and then walked to a performance at the Orpheum. I would definitely return and enjoy other items from the menu.

This place is best for delicious cocktails and apps. We all loved our drinks and the appetizer of melted cheese and bacon, but we all found our entrees lacking in flavor and presentation. Service was very friendly, but focused on the drinks--which is always great ;-), but we would've liked to have gotten our side order of fries and for our dessert to come without the garnish, as asked. I will be back for happy hour!

Dinner started off with excellent service and good, fresh oysters. Dessert was a delicious finish to a mediocre, at best, experience in between. Appetizers were ok, smothered in grated cheese, and French Onion was watered down. Wellington, the second time was ok and chicken was bland but thanks to the risotto was ok. Butterscotch pudding was very tasty as was the homemade ice cream. Our server was very attentive, friendly and down to earth.

Been here before. The raw bar is a must with delicious oysters. Had the steak frite - more steak and less fries would have made this a top meal. Good selection of wines also by the glass. Service friendly and attentive

Have enjoyed Marliave in the past but found atmosphere poor - seated in bar rather than upstairs dining room. Food was expensive on the bland side and nothing special. Love the history of the place and appreciated the nice cocktail list and good cocktails.

My parents were in town for my wedding and my new hubby and I took my parents to Marliave because my dad was craving escargot. This was a great choice!

Service was great and we picked a handful of items and split them among the table. The beef wellington was better than Gordon Ramsay's that I ate in Vegas a few years ago!

Very nice quiet place for business lunch. Beet salad was excellent. Onion soup was ok...lots of beef, but cheese was a little bland. Service was excellent. Soup and salad came to $23.00 which seemed a little steep. Sandwich (Reuben) was huge!! And appeared good.

We had a mixed experience. We were delighted to even get a reservation, given that we were in Boston in what is apparently one of the busiest weekends of the year. Then, when we arrived at our reserved time, staff seemed not to have expected us and had to scramble to get us a table. Service was cheerful but erratic--the wine we ordered did not arrive until after we had eaten our appetizers. My carpaccio was as good as I have ever had. I almost always ask for extra lemon and olive oil when I order carpaccio, but the dressing on this was so perfectly balanced that I had no reason to add anything. My wife's ricotta ravioli was also a perfect balance of delicate flavors. My caccio e pepe, on the other hand, was unlike any I have had. I think of caccio e pepe as a pasta dish; this version was all about the cheese. The flavor was fine but the mac-and-cheese consistency was not what I was expecting (my wife suggested that maybe this was a French version...).

We enjoyed it overall and would definitely go back, but next time I would order the rabbit.

Sad and tired restaurant. Menu is varied, the 4 of us chose multiple apps and mains which at best were average to poor. Sliders app was the tastiest and it was down hill from there. Service was pleasant and prompt. We do not recommend trying this restaurant due to the lacking quality and prep of the food.

Really old place that we thought would have character and history. It is just a really old place. Menu is just as old. When was the last time you saw escargot and chateaubriand on a menu? Food tasted okay, but nothing amazing.

Service was amazing though. Our server was kind and very attentive. We told him we have a show to get to and he brought everything with efficiency without rushing us.

Too many other choices around to spend our time here.

Marliave was one of the first dates my wife and I went on. We've been going there for some special occasions since, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. The dining areas can get loud but the atmosphere is fun with upstairs being a little more romantic.

The cocktail menu is excellent and the meals are usually very good. Try the rarebit!

We were on our first visit to Boston and actually went twice to Marlaive. The day we arrived our hotel concierge recommended them for an afternoon drink and snack. We sat at the bar, ate the most delicious Mac and cheese ever and enjoyed the recommendations of our friendly and knowledgeable bartender. We later returned for dinner and found the menu varied and interesting and the portions generous. Ask to be seated upstairs at night. Windows all around and the city lights are amazing. It's hidden down a little alley so get good directions before you go.

We used to love this restaurant and went often. Hadn't been in quite a while. Only the downstairs was available for lunch, it was empty and dark. The food and the ambiance were very disappointing. And despite being prompt for my reservation with OpenTable I received a message from OpenTable saying I didn't show up for my reservation. Really!!! OpenTable was very responsive and took care of it.

Bartender ignored my fiance for over 20 minutes as he was waiting for me to arrive. The bar was pretty empty.

Wait staff were pleasant and efficient.

Food was overpriced and not very good. My wellington came rare when I asked for medium rare. I didn't want to make a fuss so didn't send it back. The brussels sprouts were undercooked (per my fiance) and not seasoned very well (sort of blah). The escargot had a thick layer of cheese (which it didn't need). The bread given as a freebie and then with the escargot was not very good.

Have been in the past so was very disappointed that the service we received was bad. Waiter did not place orders for a couple of things we requested, no serving spoons for dishes that required them, we asked to take our leftovers with us but they never made it to the table, and instead of splitting the bill in half (one bill, two credit cards) it appears that one of our cards got charged from the entire amount. Not even a busy night so can't understand why the service was poor.
