They were out of salmon. They were out of coffee. Really. Out of coffee and salmon at 1:30 on a Sunday. The food was ok, not great, except for the shredded fried potato dish that came with the omelet. That was awesome. Dessert was delicious. Service was good.
Good place for casual brunch with friends
Tasty food; excellent wine. Service was terrific. Great place for pre-theatre dining. Convenient to Irish Rep and subways. We'll be back!
Markt is our neighborhood reliable go-to for brunch or special lunch. We sat just inside on a beautifully sunny though windy day. The side windows were open which let in the city sounds (and occasional smoker smells), but it was worth it. I hadn’t ordered the salade niçoise in a while and forgot how spectacular a construction it is that they serve! Quite a conversation piece! And delicious. The host recognized us as at least semi-regulars and welcomed us back. We’ve never been disappointed. Thanks again.
Nice Belgian style restaurant on 6th ave. Food was very good. I had the Blueberry pancakes with a side order of bacon. All food was fresh and hot. Was a bit pricey, $15 for three pancakes, but after all this is New York.
This was our first visit to Markt. Three of us enjoyed our meals (steak frites, coquille st. jacques, and moules frites, while one (skate) did not. Overall, a pleasant experience. Service was quick and the prices are reasonable. It's a nice place when attending theater at the nearby Irish Repertory Theater.
Host asked if lunch was business or pleasure, so was able to seat us at the perfect table. I have not been at Markt for lunch for about a year, and the lunch menu has changed with great new offerings - such as a crab salad sandwich. The basil pesto soup has also improved topped with a spoonful of basil-cream and a Parmesan cracker. Delightful!
Great food and great Belgium beer selection
Cute place. Was eager to try a different menu. Maybe moules frites should have been choice. I told my husband the lobster bisque was well reviewed. He ordered , but was told there was no puff pastry. Ordered a Belgian Pilsner, was told they were out. I had shrimp cocktail--tasty sauce, skinny, flavorless shrimp. Waterzooi was the consistency of clam chowder--very little chicken.
On the plus side, our waitress was delightful, and I like the decor. It looked like everyone was doing the mussels/fries, so I would go myself or recommend if that's your mood.
First time I’ve been here for dinner. Family get together on a weeknight and we were happy to get a table for 7 with short notice. Menu has a good variety of choices and everyone, including the kids, was pleased with his meal. The service was very attentive.
I've been here many, many times and generally find it a good value with professional staff and the waiter on our night was particularly friendly and helpful (not always the case here, they can be a little stuffy.) Unfortunately, a simple burger I ordered medium rare must have been more rare than it appeared and I actually got very sick as a result. It happens. But it certainly doesn't make me want to return after some 6 years or frequenting this particular restaurant. It's not an awesome dining experience. It's just solid. Nice upscale feel and, as I said, professional. Although this time might have ruined it for me forever.
Lunch selections nice, with fresh salads and nicely prepared fish. Beers good. Noise level not so good. Percussive, especially in the congested back area. For the older set: bring ear plugs and pretty much give up on conversation unless you yourself are a shouter.
Always a pleasant dining experience.
Wonderful mussels and oysters, but the highlight was the best French Onion soup which warmed us up immediately on a windy cold March early evening.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Markt. The food was great and the service was exceptional.
Moules Curry... ask for it
I checked Vibrant Bar Scene above but that was the actually the main problem—I wanted a catch-up dinner with a friend, and sitting near the bar was deafening. It was very loud in the back room too. Great ambiance, high tin ceiling, attractive crowd, but LOUD.
Food & service good. (Lobster w pasta disappointing though. )
Quaint bistro and coffee served in a French Press
Lovely food with generous mussel pot (garlic and cream choice), salmon salad, wine & beer selection. Service friendly and attentive. Pleasant Belgian atmo.
One of the oddest steak tartares I've ever had. A generous portion of chopped steak, but with no seasoning. There were two little piles of capers and chopped onions on the side, and a tiny egg yolk on top, but that was it. I asked for Worcestershire and Dijon mustard and mixed it myself.
Great ambiance, good service, well presented food which was delicious.
The food was very good here. My mussels were cooked well and flavorful and they let me sub in steamed veggies for fries. The veggies were prepared well with a good crunch. Great beer selections too.
Our server was lackluster at best. He spilled wine in our appetizer and just left it, didn’t offer to replace it. We repeatedly had to ask for plates and to have them buss the tables in between courses!! I have been here for brunch before and had a very nice experience. Perhaps because it was the Super Bowl we had he “b” team but i was embarrassed to have brought my employees for dinner. The meal was delicious but the rest was awful. I will not come back again. To top it all off: There was a mouse running through the restaurant- very unsettling.
AS ALWAYS, MARKT HAS THE BEST BRUNCH IN THE CITY!! WE GO BACK ALMOST WEEKLY :)
Lunch menu not available until 12 pm. Very odd on a Saturday. Food and service were good.
Everything was delicious though not as hot as we would like. Attentive waiter and very good support staff. We’ll be back.
My new go to neighborhood place!! Food is on point!
The tartare is excellent! They need help with service though. With only our table and one other to deal with we never saw the waiter after our order was taken.
Eating with two small children and asked for the grilled chicken which takes 25 mins. Ordered that first and other food expecting it to be timed and all come out together. The food came out at all diff times causing a much longer meal than expected.
Excellent, varied Sunday lunch/brunch menu. Food well prepared, ambience cheerful but not frenetic.
The menu is VERY hard to read--the printing is small and very light. Candles do not help. We needed a flashlight
We were seated at a terrible wobbly table although the restaurant was mostly empty. Our food was bland and flavorless. Our waiter never came over to check on us and looked affronted every time we tried to speak to him.
Markt never disappoints! Soup on a frigid Christmas Eve delicious. Modules et Frits a perfect choice (but the burger for non-mussel lovers was good too). We even splurged and had dessert (3 different ones)!
Great food, friendly staff. One of my favorite restaurants. I highly recommend the carbonades flamandes
Great food and beer. We had no trouble getting a late evening reservation. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was very good in both quality and taste. We had the pot of mussels and it was excellent! Nice dessert too. Overall, a great New York dinner.
Surprise find in the area. Food was excellent and reasonably priced.
Interesting experience. There were plenty of tables open in the front and we had a reservation but were sat in a corner booth which would have been cozy if we could have gotten in and out without moving the table every time. My husband went straight to the bathroom to find two people engaged in inappropriate conduct in the bathroom, he went three more times and they were in there the entire time we were dining. WEIRD. We ordered the shrimp croquettes but then shrimp cocktail arrived. It was a quick return so not a big deal. The croquettes were pretty good. Our waitress brought our beers and poured them for us but didn't even bother to tilt the glass and my $12 Duvel was reduced to foam. My husband had to ask to pour his own when he ordered a second. Dinner was good, but I had to hold the table still so my husband could cut his steak without shaking the entire thing. Eventually we put some menus underneath and had a better time. The couple next to us waited 30min for their dessert to come and it was clear the waitress had forgot to put their order in. It felt reassuring that we weren't the only ones frustrated.
Ate here before seeing play at Irish Rep.
exceptional dishes include the iconic meat stew, steak tartare, frites & great beer selection. Wine offerings also good.
Service was fantastic- My husband was late but we got great support from the kitchen & our waiter was extremely attentive. Enjoyed experiencing a touch of Belgium!
Will definitely return.
Best thing about Markt besides the mussels was the service.
Markt is an upscale and elegant but casual dining experience. Very European in attitude, professional in service and creative in cuisine. The staff is welcoming, warm and friendly. There is an energy and sharpness which makes for an exceptional but relaxing experience.
