Markt Ratings and Reviews
Great food and beer. We had no trouble getting a late evening reservation. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was very good in both quality and taste. We had the pot of mussels and it was excellent! Nice dessert too. Overall, a great New York dinner.
Interesting experience. There were plenty of tables open in the front and we had a reservation but were sat in a corner booth which would have been cozy if we could have gotten in and out without moving the table every time. My husband went straight to the bathroom to find two people engaged in inappropriate conduct in the bathroom, he went three more times and they were in there the entire time we were dining. WEIRD. We ordered the shrimp croquettes but then shrimp cocktail arrived. It was a quick return so not a big deal. The croquettes were pretty good. Our waitress brought our beers and poured them for us but didn't even bother to tilt the glass and my $12 Duvel was reduced to foam. My husband had to ask to pour his own when he ordered a second. Dinner was good, but I had to hold the table still so my husband could cut his steak without shaking the entire thing. Eventually we put some menus underneath and had a better time. The couple next to us waited 30min for their dessert to come and it was clear the waitress had forgot to put their order in. It felt reassuring that we weren't the only ones frustrated.
Ate here before seeing play at Irish Rep.
exceptional dishes include the iconic meat stew, steak tartare, frites & great beer selection. Wine offerings also good.
Service was fantastic- My husband was late but we got great support from the kitchen & our waiter was extremely attentive. Enjoyed experiencing a touch of Belgium!
Will definitely return.
Markt is an upscale and elegant but casual dining experience. Very European in attitude, professional in service and creative in cuisine. The staff is welcoming, warm and friendly. There is an energy and sharpness which makes for an exceptional but relaxing experience.
Moule frites is the measure of a Belgian restaurant. I ordered mine Provençale. The mussels were sandy. The fries on the soggy side. The mussels were exchanged for a low-quality shrimp cocktail. Nobody was sorry. Nobody made a goodwill gesture. It was 5:30 and the place wasn't crowded. No excuses. Once it was good place. Yesterday, it was a. ad place.
Last time here after dining at Markt for close to 15 years. Service sucks. They ran out of stuff. How do you do that early on Sat. brunch in an empty restaurant? Charged for toast, and the french bread they always serve was like a sponge. New owners? Something very weird going on.
We were a party of 8 business people, the table was laid and ready and held for us even though we were a bit late. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. This place has a great selection of continental European beers, so if you enjoy beer a great place. Food was good Belgian / French Brasserie standard, good quality and decent size portions, not too big / not too small. Overall a very good experience.
We just got married so we picked this restaurant to continue our celebration. Service was great, and the food came out at a good pace. In about the 1st half of our lunch, the whole restaurant got filled up. We got the mussels with frites in the coconut sauce and the tuna tartare. Both were very good. I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant in the future.
I ordered linguine with shrimp, scallops, lobster in saffron cream sauce. I found 2 tiny lima bean sized lobsters, 2 slices of scallops that tasted like seaweed tofu & just o.k. shrimp. Very disappointing.
My husband ordered the mussels with wine & garlic. He couldn't taste either one & the broth was too salty. He had to send it back. The waitress suggested the beef stew which was at least edible. Our waitress was very good though.
The proseco was mediocre. A small bottle of triple beer for $14 was not worth it. All in all I would not want to go back here. Not worth the price or the time.
We have been to the old location and loved the vibrancy. This new(er) location is ok - more intimate. Good neighborhood place to adopt. Food reviews in our party of 6 were mixed. Mussels were good, and two of us enjoyed the salmon. Others loved the skate. My husband had stew and thought it was marginal. All told, we would recommend it as neighborhoody and comfortable with good food.
3 of 4 dishes were very good. Waiter or kitchen mixed up the 4th order which was supposed to be a pasta dish. The person in our party with that dish then had to wait a long time for correct dish to be prepared and he wasn't happy with food when it came. Waiter also had trouble with drink order and steak initially came to rare and had to be sent back. Overall we still like this place but our friends won't go back because of the disappointing service.
Went for brunch. Their Croque Monsieur was a ham and cheese on plain toast barely lukewarm. Not grilled ham and cheese on French toast as it should be . Person next to me had eggs Benedict and those were clearly overcooked. People and atmosphere were very nice as expected. Maybe better for dinner, but I will not go back
Been to this restaurant many times for lunch and the food is always amazing. Went recently again for dinner and the food and service were outstanding. Actually sat there for 3 hours catching up with my best friend and we never felt rushed and the waiter was extremely attentive. I highly recommend for great quality food and great service.
Went with a friend for annual birthday dinner he loves this place and always wants the potage it's always delicious everything was great would recommend the warm mushroom toast and the cheese croquettes I had the cod which was delicious and service was a little slow even though we were there earlier and the place was not busy would recommend if someone loves seafood but some friends even enjoy the meatballs
the noise level was deafening, the service poor, in fact when I asked one waiter for a spoon he told me he wasn't my waiter but would send my waiter over. Since the place was fairly empty but very noisy he could have honored my request without the sarcasm. With restsaurants fighting to stay in business this is not one I would return to again.
