We went during the furniture market and found the service to be VERY slow. The shrimp tempura dish was excellent, the quail lived up to the term "small" plate and not very tasty, and the Kobe beef dish was way over salted. The cocktails and wine drinks were very good. I would go back again but NOT during the furniture market.
The shrimp with lobster mascarpone ravioli was AMAZING. We also had the perfectly seasoned Atlantic salmon with veggies. Looking forward to our next visit to Gboro. Mark’s will definitely be a repeat!
Food wasn't quite as good as usual. Third time here. Kind of disappointing.
Our go to place for a wonderful meal.
A loud group but the staff offered to move me. Really fresh very good food.
Very nice evening with family and friends.
Connor, our waiter was especially helpful with the younger guests and was at all times, professional and attentive without being intrusive.
Menu item were well balanced, artfully presented. My guest were especially ecstatic with the filet, the prime rib was very good but not outstanding...but I’m not sure he would know outstanding.
My dish was very good but missing creative touch. Turnips well prepared.
Pleased that Mark’s was able to seat seven timely. We were able to visit and allowed to savor out time without feeling rushed.
A wonderful pre-concert dining experience with friends -- good food, good service, good value.
Great food, the special crab cake dinner was particularly good. We will be back.
Nothing stood out as exceptional, except maybe the setting. Beautiful place. Other than that everything was not good. The bread was as plain as any white bread from the store, the duck was chewy and without much flavor, the veggies were soggy and plain, and the "famous" chocolate soufflé wasn't sweet and nothing to write home about. Plus we waited on it after our meal for at least 15 minutes, although we had ordered it at the same time as our entrees (there's a 45 min preperation time, supposedly). Don't get me wrong; if Mark's had Macaroni Grill prices, I probably wouldn't complain. But at $30-$39 an entree, one expects a bit more. I won't be back and I won't recommend it to anyone.
Again a wonderful dining experience. With my gluten intolerance I always opt for the Duck off of the gluten free menu which is always cooked to perfection. It was so good I completely cleaned my plate. I really enjoyed the vegetable choice which was broccoli rabe, brussel sprouts and asparagus. My husband got the veal chop and said he really enjoyed it (he had never had veal before). Service was perfect.
My girlfriend (Gail) just had a birthday and I wanted to take her for lunch at one of her favorite restaurants. She chose Mark's! We both had the "fried goat cheese" salad and it was delicious. The goat cheese had a light batter and enhanced the flavor of the goat cheese. The salad greens, sliced pears and dressing were pleasing to the palate. For dessert we ordered the "chocolate bread pudding" with a tiny scoop of whip cream and ice cream. The dessert was "average." The "bread pudding" lacked the moisture and richness I would normally expect and was priced high. While there are some reasonable entrees on Mark's menu, I do think the majority are overpriced. Even Gail remarked that the menu seemed less reasonable than the last time she was there. Regardless, the ambiance was lovely and our service was excellent! I would have rated the experience four stars, not three, had the dessert been more flavorful and the prices more on par with other similar type restaurants.
From the appetizer down to dessert our meal was amazing- and everything we saw come out of the kitchen looked delicious. Our table wasn't quite ready so we started at the bar- they have an almost overwhelming list of options, but the bartender was pleasant and helpful. The dining area was a little loud, but there were 2 large parties present when we went. We loved that the tables were not crowded together. It was too cold during our visit, but there is a lovely patio that looks like a great place to go to in warmer months. Our server only checked on us if we flagged them down or they were bringing something to the table- and several times a different server brought our food/ refilled our glasses.
All in all we'll definitely go back for a special occasion, but wouldn't consider it as a "regular spot" to go to.
Excellent, as always. Love all of the options on the menu. Delicious and just perfect. Thank you!
Very nice small place. Table was nice, place was quite - a plus. Service was excellent as was the food. Pricing was quite reasonable. Will return.
First time dining here, and I'm wondering why I waited so long.
A very nice get-together pre-theatre with friends. Good food, good service, good value.
The food was good, but overall the experience was so so. Felt like a pretty stodgy place. Don't think I will return.
On Saturday evening our reservation was for 7:30. We decided to have a drink at the bar first. At 7:45 the receptionist told us we had to be seated then because she had a 8:45 reservation coming in (so we needed to be done then). By 8:45 you had about 8 empty tables with no one coming in. That was very unprofessional in the tables opinion. We’ve never had someone tell us we needed to leave within an hour.
Excellent discovery. Food of a very high quality and served impeccably. Loved the anchovies in the Caesar salad. The salmon was delicious and every side was tasty and just the perfect pairing with the main course. Dessert was perfect way to finish off a fabulous meal. A certain candidate for best in Greensboro.
This superb restaurant is becoming a not so hidden gem in an old house near Guilford College. Highly recommend their shrimp with mascarpone and lobster ravioli.
I had high hopes for Mark's, but they just didn't pan out. Service was slow to the point that the ice in our cocktails was largely melted by the time we received them, and my wife was served two uncooked ravioli (containing seafood) in her order. Before our meal, I'd heard from a couple of people that Mark's used to be outstanding but had slipped. This is now confirmed for me, and we won't be returning. For the price of this dinner (about $120 before gratuity), we could've gone somewhere where we'd have been absolutely assured of an impeccable experience. We both felt like we wasted our money, and that's not the feeling one wants to have after a celebratory meal. Very unfortunate.
Haven't been to Mark's in quite awhile. Fabulous!!!! My friend and I had a great dining
experience
Valentines Dinner was met with a table that wasn’t prepared so we stood there awkwardly in a crowded small dining room trying not to intrude on others until the table was set. Secondly, we waited 15 minutes or more for a drink order with 15 more minutes to arrive. Third, the trout tater tots came out cold with a pasty undercooked center after waiting 30 minutes after placing the order. We sent them back and returned with just barely cooked trout tots, still with a pasty center and really no trout to be found after another 30 minutes of waiting. Dinner finally arrived another 45 long minutes later. The steak was good however, the side vegetables were cold. My fiancé ordered the duck and the entire plate arrived cold including her vegetables and additional side. The entire dinner date stated at 7:15 and we finally left after 9:45. I’ve been to Marks before and never experienced this but it was an experience worth noting after paying $110 for just the meal and drinks without a 20% tip. I don’t believe I’ll be going back unless I’m invited by others.
Food was sloppy and lacked flavor. The menu had potential. I order the special, crab cakes were burnt and my meal as well as my dates were thrown together. My date ordered the chicken and the sauce was poured all over the plate in addition to the chicken. Would not eat here again.
Valentines Day made even nicer with good food and great atmosphere
The food selection was very good, all four meals were quite good. Drinks were very good, the atmosphere was quiet, you could have a nice conversation. The waitress seemed a bit pre-occupied is my only concern. I will be back to try more of your delicious menu.
Mark's has excellent food at acceptable prices for the quality. Service was good but not overbearing. When the restaurant is full, it is very noisy, especially in the back corner. It remains one of the top 2 or 3 restaurants in the Triad.
Two or three of us enjoyed the good burgers. I enjoyed the mushroom soup and shepherds pie that were specials. In the past I have enjoyed the ostrich entrée. One of us complimented the mac and cheese and another the wrap. Each couple shared a desert , and as I recall the key lime pie and chunk chocolate bread pudding were pleasing. Presentation and service were good.
Third or fourth time eating here. Ordered the beef filet. It was cooked perfectly medium, however there was no sauce and the steak could have had more flavor. The apple potato cake was very tasty. My wife’s scallops were perfectly seared and delicious. Tiramisu was average.
Consistently excellent food. Chef/Owner Mark does a great job providing a fine dining experience. Attentive staff. Quiet, friendly ambiance. Perfect for occasions, romantic dining or group events.
the food was wonderful, some of the best chicken ever. the only complaint was the coffee was kinda weak, but that is a small price to pay for all the great food we did get.
We always enjoy the quality and flavor of food.
Everything was great. Exceeded our expectations. Great veal chops.
Great visit. Love the atmosphere in this restaurant.
Tried to make reservations for 3 but OpenTable system kept defaulting to 2. Even tried to Modify to 3 with no success. I included a note to the restaurant that the RESERVATION was for 3, not 2. They had four days to read the note and call if necessary. Nothing. When we got there they said they only had a table for two and we could squeeze three at the table. I explained 4-5 times that I put a note to the restaurant about increasing it to 3 but they talked to me like I was a liar. All my fault, not theirs. All they wanted to do was argue. Mark read the note for the first time while standing there. VIP, Reservation is for 3, not 2, birthday. Offered to put us at the bar but with underage granddaughter it wouldn't work. Offered to set table up in the entrance in front of the bathrooms. I declined and said we would go somewhere else. We have been patronizing Marks for twenty years going back when he was on Westover. I won't have to worry about being embarrassed again. Very unprofessional.
Great waiter and presentation of food. The chef stopped by our table. A nice touch.
The food was spectacular (scallop risotto was to die for) and the service was amazing as well. Highly recommend for a fancy night out
Great Food. Creative Vegetarian options. Nice place to go when the patio is open.
Service was slow, salmon was undercooked and raw in places but I was afraid to send it back as I feared I would starve before I got it back again.
We expected a great experience after reading about it in the newspaper but my husband’s Kobe chopped steak was overdone. It will be awhile before we go back or recommend it to others.
We enjoyed another wonderful dinner at Marks. The lamb chops are highly recommended.
