Mark's Prime Steakhouse - Gainesville Ratings and Reviews
Some chefs resist orders for well done steaks. Neither of us cares for rare meat, so we order well done. If the cut is good, well done works as did ours at Mark's. Service was attentive without hovering. I particularly liked the soft west coast jazz in the background. Ambiance is a bit stark
but certainly better than over done, which applies to the food as well. Expensive, but we will return, possibly with friends.
THIS STEAK HOUSE IS BEST STEAK HOUSE I HAVE EVER EATEN AT EVER! My wife and I have eaten at over 50 different restaurants throughout the US. I had a delmonico and my wife had the large filet. both were cooked to perfection! i would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I only am in Gainesville once or twice a year but always make a point to having dinner st Marks. Food is consistently great and the staff attentive and well schooled. And that’s honest coming from someone from the NYC area where we have high standards! Will be back next time work brings me here!
Was there 4/2015. Tried 2 Gainesville steakhouses. Surprised that both were excellent. Remember, you're in G-ville, not at Lugers or Sparks, that being said, the food was excellent, the service quick and the atmosphere was great. I'd come back on my next visit. The food was pricy, but you're in a steakhouse and these days I have not found a cheap, quality steakhouse. Expect to pay $30 - $40 per entree with sides extra. They could use a porterhouse on the menu.
We come to Mark's at least twice a year, usually for special occasions. This trip, it was louder than it ever has been, which took away from the overall experience, probably b/c the bar was so full. I won't come again on a sports night, because a quiet, leisurely, relaxed dinner was the goal (not attained- so loud the 5 of us could not converse). Also, it was the first time I ever had the experience that my food was overly salty (e.g., the mushrooms), which was disappointing. Steak was excellent, however, but the other experiences disappointing enough that for the next occasion, I might consider trying Embers.
What a bummer! We made advanced reservations for a special occasion and asked for a good table and a great server. We got neither. The hostess seated us near the dish clearing station although there were many empty tables in a better location. We promptly asked for a different table. Although our server was polite, he brought us a dish we asked about but never ordered. The worst part, he refused to join in and sing happy birthday even though he brought a dessert with a candle. He said, "I am NOT singing."
The baked bread was tasteless, the choice of appetizers and side dishes were unappealing, the twice baked potato was hard as a rock and tasteless, the grilled asparagus was also hard and way too peppered and the desserts were nothing special, even the espresso was tasteless.
The only good thing was the steak, although the ones we ordered were not the ones we wanted. Our first choice was unavailable!?
The prices at Marks are ridiculously high and everything is a la carte.
It was extremely disappointing, depressing and the bill was over $120 for two!! Don't waste your money.
We take our top salespeople here for a winners dinner , they are always impressed. It really gives our team something to strive for . They talk about it all month long and when we go it's always fantastic. I done there with my wife as well and never a bad meal. The best place in town !!
The opening appetizer of seared ahi was delicious as was their baked bread. The Malbec was great once it had a chance to breathe.
My only complaint was an under-cooked twice baked potato that ironically would have been thoroughly cooked, had it been, TWICE baked. . . it was more baked, scooped, and served. The waiter took care of it and made it right, however, by substituting the duck fat potatoes...not exactly the same for my vegetarian wife, but a good gesture nonetheless.
We had a wonderful dining experience with friends. The food was fabulous, especially the crab bisque! Never had Brussel sprouts so good & of course the Filet was melt in your mouth! The desserts capped off an evening of fun, excellent food and service. We will return....& thank you for the valet service.
My adult daughter and I were very happy with the food at Mark's. Wine list had something for everyone. My only negative comment would be when we walked in I was pleased with the look and feel of the restaurant. Very warm booths, lighting, ambiance, etc. There were some still available but we were seated in a secondary dining room which felt more like an afterthought. It was better for large parties. Very wide open and not as comfortable.
We went to Mark's on New Year's Eve and had a wonderful dinner. The cocktails were delectable and not watered down. The calamari and portobello appetizers were super. My stuffed chicken (with asiago cheese and spinach) was so plentiful (two chicken breasts) that I had to take some home. And I never need a to-go box. The servings were generous which I like. I don't care for architectural dishes that have a dab of this and not very much food!
The service was excellent as well. We were only passing through Gainesville, but would almost return from Michigan to eat at this restaurant.
Arrived early for a 6 pm reservation. Gave our name and said, we were early for our 6pm reservation. Were seated and served water promptly. We didn't eat appetizers but the food came out promptly. Two sirloin steaks for my wife and daughter. I had the snapper. The steaks were pretty good. My fish was cooked fine. Thought it was going to be Asian style but It was basically plain fish with sauteed spinach and tomatoes. We picked at one dessert which was good. Wine was good, a nice Malbec. First coffee was stone cold, replacement was microwaved. While having dinner I received a notice that they were cancelling my reservation. Made the front desk aware that we were here and in the middle of dinner. Server was adequate, $190 including a 20% tip. Asked them to be sure to fix with Open table as they take no shows and cancellations seriously. Had to call again the next day to speak with a manager to have it rectified which he did promptly and was very apologetic. . Wouldn't be in a hurry to go back but probably will purely because the manager made an effort.
