Mark's Prime Steakhouse - Gainesville Ratings and Reviews
I loved Mark's when I was in college and have always wanted to bring him here. I am sad to say I was definitely let down. We had to ask for steak knives and we went without water for a course. I noted on our reservation that we were celebrating a birthday but it wasn't noticed by anyone who helped us throughout the night.
The food was very good. The tomato mozzarella salad was a little disappointing and I'd definitely skip that next time. The filets were great as was the loaded potato and the creamed spinach was the best, anywhere.
For $200 between two people, I expected a lot more from the service aspect. Our dirty dishes were left behind, we ran out of water, we weren't checked on frequently, etc., etc.
My wife and I wanted to find a new place to unwind and relax with some good food. What we found was our new favorite restaurant in Gainesville which demonstrated exceptional service as well as great food. A special thanks to the staff for fulfilling my request for chocolate covered strawberries. It was a pleasant surprise for my wife. She loved them!
I can always count on Mark's to make any occasion perfect and Valentine's Day dinner was no exception. From the delicious wine list to the escargot appetizer, wedge salad, bread, mashed potatoes, cauliflower au gratin to the beautifully perfect petite filet and mouth watering lobster tail, it was all perfect! We had to take our dessert to go because we were so full but it was great as well. It was $135 for both of us for all the food and well worth it. The atmosphere and food were second to none. They are the only place in town that knows how to cook a perfect filet every time. Still my favorite restaurant in town!!! Scott is our waiter and he is awesome! If you go in, ask for him. He makes that extra effort to ensure your night is perfect!
Was very surprised to find that Mark's had a limited prix fixe menu for Valentine's Day. I did not know that when I made the reservation. Prior to that evening, I had gone through the menu on Open Table and selected the items i wanted to order, so I was very disappointed to find that most of the items I selected were not available on the limited menu. Going to Mark's is a special treat for us. We don't go to expensive restaurants very often, so not being able to order what we wanted, but still facing the very large check, well . . . The food we had was well prepared and very good. The service was also very good. We have no complaints about what we were served other than it is not what we wanted to order.
Everything was wonderful, and our leftovers the next night were just as good. The fillets were awesome, particularly with the peppercorn sauce. The sides are so huge, it's best to order one and share. We had one huge twice-baked potato between us, and we still took some home. Same story with the braised baby asparagus. Pricey, but worth it.
For the first time in about 20 visits I received a steak (delmonico) that was quite poor - it was immediately replaced (my usual filet) without the slightest question, and that matched my customary feeling that Mark's serves the best steaks I have ever had anywhere. This is the place to take people you want to impress in Gainesville.
We've been 3 times. Dinner with one of my sons. Dinner / birthday party for my other son. And the other nite with both sons. Service attentive, friendly , and knowledgeable . One person took a seafood dish....plus/ minus. It is a steak house and all of those were great. Quiet murmuring and laughter easily carry on a table conversation.
This is my local special occasion restaurant. The steak was outstanding as were the blue cheese salad, steamed spinach, and brussels sprouts sides. The butternut squash risotto was a disappointment - clumpy and starchy. The chocolate paradise dessert was more cloyingly sweet than I remembered.
Marks has been a wonderful establishment that always fulfills any need a customer wishes.
I love steak tartare, and if they can make it for me, they do. The happy hour specials are also great, and with me, always leading me into dinner ! Drinks are well poured, servers are courteous and attentive !
We will always come back. My husband in fact bought a gift card for 100.00 to assure a return soon for a special occasion.
Dine at Marks..They are consistent and great !
I know nothing will get done about this, but what the heck; I'll give it a try. First off, my wife, son and his girlfriend had the filet mignon- they said it was really good. I had the NY strip. It was not good at all. every bite I took was laden with fat- not one solid bite of steak. With drinks, tips and the meal costing 300.00, I feel I should have gotten a way better meal. We love to eat out all the time- especially at hoiday time. We normally go to Ember's. but they were booked . So I figured I would give Mark's a try. If we liked it, we would have a new Steakhouse to pratronize. Not even close to Ember's. I'm not one to complain. In fact I still left a great tip for the server; as it was not her fault. The ball is in your court.......
Mark's is a first class steakhouse on par with one you'd find in any major city. The fact it's operating in Gainesville is a plus for locals and visitors. All the food items are high quality, as is the service. We've gone to Mark's a dozen times and never been disappointed. Highly recommended.
Had read a recommendation to sit at a booth at the bar for better table service, which wasn't true for our visit. While the food was excellent, and the service good, the spacial distance between the bar and the booths in that area was so small that when a group of 14 or so came in, shortly after we were seated, we had bar patrons hanging over our both ends talking to one another because of the cramped space, making it very uncomfortable and offered VERY little privacy to dine. In fact, we had to ask the bar patrons to please not lean over our booth and allow us space to enjoy our dining.
Next time - won't be at the bar, but the ambiance could be a bit more enviting and warm in stead of dark and somewhat empty.
If you are looking for a high end steak house this is your place. Classic steakhouse menu and service perfectly executed. The food is as good as it gets from the chopped salad (a 10) to the Stone Crabs to a perfect Delmonico. The wine list by glass could be better, but we will be back the next time we are in town.
Overall the food was mediocre at best. Sadly the best thing they brought me was the bread. I asked for no butter or cheese on any of my items. When the food arrived it was literally dripping with butter and oil. Everything just tasted of butter. It was a real shame. I am unlikely to be back.
This was the best steak I have had in a long time, all my friends most have moved here in the last few years, wanted to know how it was,They have all wanted to go just never made it. after I went they all are going to check it out now,-...Great Food, there was a table next to us that where to loud, But we did enjoy our food, Thank you very much
My husband and I try to make at least a bi-monthly trip to Mark's to treat ourselves! We always get amazing service and the food is just devine!! It always makes our day when we know we are going to eat at Mark's for dinner! Highly recommend it to anyone just looking for an amazing meal and great service!!
You are probably going to spend at least $50 a plate, but you get the quality of service, food, and atmosphere that you would expect accompanies that. The steak I had was excellent, the selection was excellent, and I will definitely be returning in the future to explore the menu.
We had a very flavorful, moist strip steak that was wonderful. We also enjoyed the chopped salad and perhaps
the best tomato mozzarella salad in some time. Our service was very professional, attentive, but not hovering.
Smooth, Trilogy wine at a perfect temperature.
We've been coming to Marks almost since it opened years ago. It's a standby for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and any special occasion. The steaks are great. The sides are always good. A new addition was muchroom risotto this time. That was especially delicious. The crème brûlée was not as custardy as we are used to. It was more like pudding. Minor flaw.
Had friends from Miami stop by to celebrate my birthday. Made reservations at Mark's US Prime because we wanted a good steak and were use to a large selection of steak houses in Miami. It was an unexpected pleasure to experience great service, very good ambiance and knowledgeable staff. Steak was not the only great treat, the seafood selection was outstanding. The blue crab appetizer, grouper and the lobster macaroni and cheese was superb. My friends and I will be back and have told our friends already.
Thanks for an enjoyable evening and wonderful birthday surprise.
