Place was half empty and it took over an hour and a half to get served and the meals were not very good.
We were taking a mini vacation. The place was lovely, food exceptional, great service, nice quiet live music. Really a terrific find. So happy we decided to dine there.
The food and decor was very good. They could have a few more traditional menu options.
The crab hushpuppies were delicious - we got and order and then got another order. The drinks and all of the other food was good, but not good enough to justify the price. At the table, we had the double steak burger, salmon, and pork tenderloin.
Fantastic food, service and ambiance. Would go back without a doubt
A few years ago this place was lively and well-run. Things have slipped, badly. From having to walk into the kitchen to ask if there was a host on duty, to painfully long waits between courses, to "grilled fennel" that arrived looking like it was steamed to death, this meal was an expensive disappointment. I hope they were just having an off night, but an awful lot of things need to improve. It's a shame because this part of downtown needs all the attractions it can get.
Every restaurant has an "off" night. Hopefully, this was the case with our experience which was slow service, slow delivery of food, slow follow-up. Example: before the entrees arrived, I ordered a glass of wine to pair with my steak. Long after the entrees arrive, the server comes by to let me know they were out of that wine and asked if I wanted another selection. By now I had only 2 or 3 bites left...so no wine for me.
Server forgot my dates drink. Apps came quickly and were AMAZING!!!! Really looking forward to other options ordered!! 1.5 HOURS later we still did not have our salads!!!! Nor did we have our second drinks that were ordered 45 minutes prior!!!! Don’t think the order was ever put in! People coming in later than us getting food and drinks before us. Ladies that entered right behind us....finished their meal and left before we finally requested our bill for what we had consumed so we could leave and go down the street to eat dinner!!!! Was not a busy night, just normal flow!!! Many apologies from manager....not going back!!!
The food was delicious!! The restaurant was only maybe 1/4 full and we had a pretty long wait for everything. Be aware there is a split fee if you share anything.
We do an annual birthday dinner for my wife with our closest friends, and pick a new restaurant every year. This year we picked Marketplace. It was OK, but for the price that's not good enough. The inside of the restaurant (old theater) looks beautiful. The server was adequate, but appeared disinterested. The food was marginal, nothing really stood out other than the Indian Nachos appetizer which was delicious. We had to send one dish back as it was under-cooked.
I wish I could recommend this restaurant as it's certainly a beautiful setting and building. But based on this visit, there are much better options for high-end dining in Louisville.
Location was nice & centrally located in downtown. Service was decent. Food was just ok. Meat on the Cuban sandwich was dry & had no flavor. Tortillas on fish tacos were dry & falling apart & there was only 2 pcs of cubed fish on one of the tacos.
Outdoor seating in the front was interrupted many times by those walking by on the street. I would suggest switching the seating up so that diners are eating in the back with the nicer tables.
The salmon dish was outstanding! The drinks were truly handcrafted and delicious. The environment is absolutely incredible. The dining area options go from casual outdoor to chic interior. A great place to dine!
Food and service was excellent. Only drawback would be a limited menu.
Great spot. Great food.
I have eaten at Marketplace 2 other times before my latest visit on 9/4/19. I found the food to be just fair. My pork was very dry and my husband's steak was also dry and over cooked. We didn't complain to our server, Kevin because we don't like to do that. Kevin was a great server, very cordial. We were disappointed for the price. Not sure we will return.
This is an incredibly beautiful, and unfortunately, underutilized restaurant in the heart of downtown. So many empty chairs on a Saturday night. They could easily be on par in an instant with many of the nicer restaurants in Louisville with some better marketing and some tweaks to their menu.
Food was great! But the guitar player and speaker were loud. Too loud for an empty dining room. But loved the interior and decor. I’ll be returning....
Would recommend for location and ambiance, not our best meal there.
As out of town visitors we were looking for a memorable restaurant experience. The food was amazing! The decor modern and interesting. The waitress was attentive but not overly so. An after wedding group was located in another area of the building, but there were very few people where we were seated.
The chef is an artist. The food looked beautiful and tasted fantastic! We tried the beet appetizer, I had the gnocchi, friend had salmon. The chocolate sponge cake with nutella frosting was a little on the dry side. Next time we would try the peach dessert.
I thought there would be live jazz, but that is only Friday nights. We would go back again!
Great place, attentive staff from the front door to the bar. Excellent food, well presented.
Nice vibe. The service was a bit slow at first. If it wasn’t for the manager (I assume), we wouldn’t have gotten our water or drink orders. The food was ok, not great though. The pork tenderloin had no taste but the presentation was very nice. Probably won’t go back for dinner though. Maybe to go to the bar and have a few drinks
The staff here was incredibly warm and attentive. Each member, including a man I assume was the manager, took the time to come to our table and offer birthday wishes.
It was an amazing experience. Went for our five year anniversary. All of the staff came over and congratulated us and made us feel so special. The time of night we went, we almost had the whole place to ourselves. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was very romantic.
The atmosphere was awesome – we ate outdoors, I love the landscape and music.
Menu was very limited, As well as single glass wine choices, food very good.
Our experience was exceptional. We had the Filet, which was delicious, but a bit under medium, the salmon entree was delicious along with the burger. the only complaint was we had to ask several times for bread and cocktails .The staff was very professional and polite .
Food and drinks were good, service was slow.
Wonderful courtyard environment with great mid-century jazz and excellent food for remarkably low prices. Ate here three days in a row.
Waitress very friendly. Works hard.
Food good but not outstanding.
Attractive restaurant with nice outdoor dining
They need to fix the urinal in the men’s room.
We had late reservations. Food was outstanding! Service was as well! Great menu selections. Highly recommend!
Food and atomsphere are great -- service was unfortunate.
Omg. We had the best experience ever here tonight! Went out to eat before a concert and the salmon omg it was so delicious!! Everything was perfect!! Coming back and definitely recommend!!
Portions much smaller than they used to be and the taste isn’t what it used to be, but We love the atmosphere and wine selection
I had not visited Marketplace for quite some time. I prefer the old layout where you dined in the enclosed back room. Unfortunately the service was lacking which affects the overall experience. We waited way too long for a glass of wine to be delivered to the table -- maybe 15 min. Our male server introduced the "special" but had no idea what it came with and had to go back to the kitchen and ask. Mid-way through our arrival another server came to our table and introduced herself and said she would be our server this evening and taking care of us. Wait, didn't we already have a server?? Guess the 1st one went home! This all occurred after we had placed our order. Food was good, but due to service will probably go elsewhere next time we are downtown for an event.
The service was HORRIBLE. We had to wait 45 minutes to get our appetizers, then 2 hours to get dinner. Our waiter kept whispering and was not concerned about checking on our food or updating us on status. We had 7:30 reservation, got entree at 10 pm, AND they were not packed with customers, we see why.
Worst dining experience - went here Derby weekend so they had a preset menu. Even with that took it over 2 hours to get appetizers and another 30 minutes for the main course. The wait staff indicated most of them never had served before and were brought in that day for extra help. Do not recommend going here!
My husband and I had been to Marketplace several times and thought it would a a great place to bring our friends after Thurby. I made reservations in February for 9 people thinking the menu would be the great menu choices and great prices we had had before. WRONG WRONG WRONG
There was a SET menu which was 95.00 a person... so a hamburger was 95.00.... oh I forgot an appetizer and dessert was included $30 glasses of wine... the least expensive.. REALLY? REALLY? Why would such a great restaurant do that? Change their menu and jack up the prices?
I wasn’t told this when I made reservations. We were ..to say the least shocked at the prices. Some other friends went to The Village Anchor and Mesh and other area restaurants. There were not SET menus at these places and the prices were not jacked up. This is not New York or Chicago and I’m not sure why this restaurant felt the need to raise prices esp since other restaurants did not. Part of our party was a family of 4. Each had two drinks plus their dinner and
their bill was upward of 700.00. Ridiculous. The food was good... but not that good. And a hamburger was 95 just like the sirloin steak. Now how’s that work?
AND our server was lackluster at best AND the tip was already included. She would have been a lot better had she known she had to work for her tip. That was a mistake. Not a good experience. I won’t be back. Very bad experience.
Good food, terrible service. Empty restaurant but impossibly long wait times for every.thing. Regretted taking a customer here. Should have gone somewhere else. Don’t see this place existing much longer if my experience was typical. Disappointing that the flavors were really nice, because it makes it harder to write the place off. But I won’t return.
