MarketBar is San Francisco's answer to Grand Central Station but on the water in the restored landmark Ferry Building. The casual menu offers many of the organic ingredients sold in the thrice-weekly farmer's market as well as the shops filling the interior of the building. So disappointing! We had enjoyed dinner on the patio about a year ago, so we came back for brunch to celebrate an important birthday. We sat inside this time. It was so loud in there that we had to yell at each other to be heard. The food was mediocre and our server was very unfriendly.
We had a great experience! The staff was welcoming when we arrived and sat us promptly. The server was patient and explained everything to us, including the special. The ambiance was active but not too loud. The prices were great and there was something for everyone on the beverage and food menus. We will be back!
Met a friend there and we perused the menu sitting outside. My server had already brought tea and was most patient and gracious as we finally decided on bouillabaisse and salad.
That bouillabaisse was fantastic! Enough for two with salad and just delicious. As good as the pumpkin flan we indulged in after.
Quiet and easy to chat and amazing people watching from under the umbrella.
Converged for outdoor Sunday brunch with three adults and a 3-Year old. Flexible menus, breakfast and lunch. Child and adults loved it. Great fun at Embarcadero, or could eat inside the SF Ferry Terminal. Some came by SF Bay Ferry from Oakland, Jack London Square, some from San Carlos via BART.
good food. The waiter was "busy" and so the manager actually helped us with ordering, which was good. Even though we asked for a glass of wine (not a bottle) he offered two samples of white wine for us to choose. But, as I said, this was the manager. The waiter was OK, once it started serving our table.
The waiter was very attentive with our needs because we had to leave in a certain amount of time. But even though it was very busy, the waiter made sure we were served quickly. Everyone liked their food and even though it was pretty noisy, we could talk comfortably. I would eat there again.
Moderately noisy space, poor timing of service left me feeling rushed. Perhaps they wanted to get the single diner out of the way to seat larger parties, but the service felt timed to get me out of the way. My main course came out shortly after I started on my salad, and quickly cooled off.
I can't recommend this place for solo diners.
The table we were seated at was dirty. Our waiter was less than enthusiastic. My husband enjoys tap beer and the taps were down. The bottle wasn't very cold. The menu on open table wasn't close to the actual menu. We did not eat dinner there. We paid for our drinks and looked for another restaurant. The waiter didn't even seem to care that we were leaving. I don't think I've ever left a negative review. First time for everything.
The service I received at Market Bar today doesn't even warrant 1 star. The host was incredibly rude and unprofessional. The man shouted at me, telling me I was being unreasonable after asking to move tables as I was burning in the sunshine. After being publicly humiliated by this man I returned to my table where he followed me back too to continue the verbal abuse at me and my friends. This man should not work in a customer facing role! I will NEVER return to this restaurant whilst he is employed there!
Food was very good. There were three of us wanting to "share" appetizers and entrees. Unfortunately, they are not really set up for three people to share. Two would work out fine, but not three. We asked if we could get another egg on the deviled eggs as there were only two and were told "no"! We asked if we could get another sparerib on the pork, pork, pork, entrée and were told "no"! There were only two. Also, wait staff couldn't wait to clear the table. We were still eating. They should wait until all are finished before removing plates.
