we came from out of town and we were thrilled that we could make reservations. We had a very pleasant server. Everything was spot on the food the timing the tastes the variety! We had a very very wonderful time!
Love the downtown location! Great waiter, food was fast and good. Loved being able to use OpenTable for our anniversary reservation.
Food quality is always very good and fresh.
My husband and I love coming to the Oyster Bar. The food and servers are always great. We love the sea food and drinks!
Oysters not too fresh, Clam chowder is wonderful, Blackened Catfish was
Ok ordered brown rice got potatoes instead. Server hand clam chowder over railing, need to reach to receive hot soup... dangerous!
We felt like our meal was as good as it used to be at the Oyster Bar. Everything was excellent and fresh. As usual the bread and clam chowder were yummy, and our server was superb!
Great Oysters .. some of the best I have tasted. Fish is very fresh and week cooked
Great food and the wait staff was amazing. Our appointment was late, Chris preordered lunch and had it out as he sat down.
Great food, service!
Waitress, Jenna was awesome!
Almond Tort Dessert is terrific!
Unfortunately, we sat at the bar which subjects you to waves of cold air. I felt a little claustrophobic as they jammed as many tables as possible in there. The oysters were OK. Not $30 a dozen great. The crab cake was fair, with not much craziness. The NE clam chowder had good taste bust was mostly broth. The fish and chips was quite good. I like their tartar sauce, however the $25 price tag was more than the 3 little pieces warranted. If the Jazz had won, I probably would have been less critical.
I have been going to the Oyster Bar for over 20 years and HAVE NOT ever had a bad experience or a bad meal..
This is and will be my always "GO TOO SPOT" for a date or entertaining..
We have been going there for years.... always great clam chowder... and awesome service
Another good experience. Excellent salmon and halibut, good drinks as well.
Awesome night out! Great food and service in a very cool atmosphere.
Oyster Bar is always a very good place to eat seafood. We don't get to Salt Lake often, so when we do we enjoy eating here. My Halibut Oscar was wonderful, and our service was truly excellent. Market Street bread and clam chowder were as good as ever, but the Caesar salad was pretty bland. We used to love the desserts here, but the choices this time were pretty basic, and our cheesecake tasted like it had come from a box. Disappointing.
My waitress was not very outgoing or friendly. The food was fairly good but my steak was undercooked. When I asked to have it cooked a little more she told me that was medium even though I said it was rare and way to raw for me. I noticed the other servers were very friendly and helpful so I'll give it another try next time I'm in town.
Good meal and less crowded than usual during the convention week.
Food was average, wine list was ok. Service lacked, I think we had a newer server. I am generally forgiving as this is a very difficult job, 20 minutes to get the martini I saw sitting on the bar to be delivered to our table and never refilled the water glasses.
Server was phenomenal, best steak I've had and ambiance was perfect. Clients loved it, great experience and will come again and highly recommend!
Always a great choice for food and service.
I have been going to both the New Yorker & Oyster Bar sense they both opened way back when.. You could always count on seeing "Tom" setting at the bar downstairs. My fondest memory..
With all the new Resturants opening up I KNOW I can alway depend on both restaurants (New Yorker/Oyster bar) to get the full on elegance of a night out should be each and every time I go there..
I visited Market Street Grill (next door) first for lunch and it was amazing. Both places have off-the-chart fresh seafood options. The atmosphere is more open, well lit and simple. The food was impeccable. On this visit I walked to the other side which is the, "oyster bar" side and was pleased with the darker, more romantic environment as well as the full bar (which can be hard to find in Salt Lake City).
A friend and I dined at the Market Street Oyster Bar a week later for NYE and it was AWESOME. Again, a full bar in SLC is somewhat rare....especially to folks new to the area. We had a seat in the window and the place was pleasantly vibrant and festive. Both of us got surf and turf. The crab legs were the best and largest I've ever seen. The staff was friendly...especially our waitress...who seemed to be happy to be there until after midnight despite it being NYE. Great attitude! I definitely recommend this place.
The Market Street Oyster bar is "the place" to go in SLC for an overall excellent experience: from attentive service to delicious seafood and a warm ambiance. The oysters are always fresh; the wine list is fairly expansive, even by the glass. All the seafood is of the highest quality (fish, dungeness crab, shrimp). This is one of the few spots in SLC where you get a "legit" pour of wine versus a paltry 5 OZ pour for the price you'd pay anywhere else in the US for a 6-8 OZ pour. Also the sides are rather uninspired...boiled or mashed potatoes. But still, if you're looking for a romantic evening, this is your best bet in SLC.
Market Street is always the go to place the food was good. Service a little sketchy. the waitress was like in a major rush i think she was throwing our food at us all night seriously had to catch it if we hadn't been paying attention out food would have been in out laps. and soup in the lap not good. not in pressed with that. but food was good and love the oyster bar!
My only complaint was the valet was really slow and seemed unorganized. I waited on the street to pull into the valet for 20 minutes and hardly moved making me late for my reservation. The guests in my car got out and walked down the street in the rain so our table would not be given away.
Meal was very slow in coming. Other than that, it was excellent as always
It was my husband's birthday and our friends joined is for dinner, we had a very nice evening. It was packed because it's Christmas downtown, yet everything arrived in a timely manner and our server Jonathon was amazing.
This is our favorite regular spot. Oysters are always great, seafood is always fresh and steaks are always tender. I don't want to jinx is, but we have never even experienced an "off" night here. Plus, the valet parking makes it really convenient.
Always serve high quality food and enjoyable experience.
My partner had a fish sandwich that he said was quite good. I had the $25 seafood salad....iceberg lettuce, 3 shrimp and 3-4 small crab strips. Not another vegetable to be had. Bland and not much to look at. Really...$25! The only reason i gave it 2 stars was because the sandwich was good.
Amazing food and service. The food is always consistent and fish and seafood is always fresh and extremely well prepared.
The food was very good. Richelle our server and Kimberly our bartender did a great job. They need to get into the modern era with your bar stools and booths. ENTIRELY TOO TIGHT and UNCOMFORTABLE. Bar stools and tables that don't move are way behind the times. People want to be comfortable when they dine!!! Overall a nice experience. I would go back.
Food was really good, table service was poor.
Get the blue point oysters. Ahhhhhh!
Great seafood option. Food is always fresh.
in my reservation, I asked for a table by the windows. When we arrived, there were several tables open by the window, yet we were seated in the back, right next to the wait staff service area. It was extremely noisy, and we heard their gossip about every customer in the place. Our waiter seemed to forget about us--water was not refilled, drinks were not asked about.
Horrible service! We were there over an hour before we got one drink, over an hour and half before we got our appetizer! There is something wrong with this! When she finally came around, our server said "oh we were slammed"! We asked for a manager but whatever! Two hours later, 188 tab???!!!! We will not be back! Fred... sorry but goodbye!!
Have eaten at MSG many times over the years. This experience was a low point. Service was very slow and inattententive. The food was marginal. Fish was left under the light too long and the top was dried and hard. Couldn't eat it. Disappointing for a restaurant that has been one of our favorites for many years.
We tried this place out last night, as part of the Dine Around SLC promotion going on during September. Surprised to find no menu for it and had to ask the server about it. It floored me that when I asked about the wild salmon and the server went to check with the kitchen on whether it really was or not, he came back and said it had sold out so they were substituting farmed Atlantic! WTF? It was only Wednesday and they ran out? I couldn't believe what I was hearing and despite my protest, my husband ordered it. Well no surprise, it was completely tasteless, thin and overcooked. Not to mention the unethicalness of serving farmed fish. What really annoyed me was that I overheard the next table server mentioning one of their specials and guess what, it was Coho Salmon! Oh gee, you have wild salmon for your regular menu but not the Dine Around. Ok, definitely cross this place off the list of where we'd go again.
Overall, unless you're a suit staying in a downtown hotel with an expense account and few eating options, there's no reason to come here. The food is something any chain restaurant could put out or minimum wage cook could make, just very uncreative. I was surprised that a restaurant participating in Dine Around would offer such poor quality but I guess that is their standard.
The oysters were very good. The meal was good, I just feel that this place is over-priced.
