We accidentally discovered this restaurant when looking for a quick but good meal before a theater matinee performance. It is steps from the Orpheum Theater and parking and is old SF kind of atmosphere in a landmark building. Nice lunch in about an hour.

I selected Market Grill for the first time for my friend and I because of its proximity to the Orpheum Theater for an 8pm show. The ambience of the restaurant was warm and lovely, and the service of the staff was outstanding. The food was exceptional - so fresh, delicious, and served at the correct temperature. We are definitely going to be regular customers in the future.

We have had dinner for years, at Market Grill. Our last few meals have not had much flavor, or interesting, but our service was very good. We wish the meals were as good, as the service.

Nice place if you need a quick bite before a show. The place is a little dated, but the staff was mostly nice.

The food was excellent, the service outstanding. Market Street Grill is a little gem on Market, just a short walk to the Orpheum Theater.

I will return!

Was looking for a nice spot to enjoy a solo dinner pre theater show, Aladdin. I was greated and seated immediately and was promptly met by my server. Excellent and speedy is how I can discribe the serice here. Backed up by amazing food and generous portions and I was in heaven. Such a great tasting meal! I Will definately be coming back here someday in the future!

It is nice to be in one of the classy older hotels in SFO. Windows give a view outside.
The food was delicious and the portion filling. Service was great. We ordered two different items to get a taste of both. I would definitely go back again and recommend it. Thank you!

First authentic caesar salad i've had in years. Mussels were exquisite in wonderful tomato-based sauce. Sol was a seasoned professional and provided service one seldom sees nowadays. Quiet and comfortable.

Lunch before a show at the Orpheum which is directly across the street. The food was very good. The lemon tart dessert was outstanding. The ambiance, very nice and you can easily hear everyone at your table. The service was outstanding. Overall a very nice luncheon.

We arrived early and they seated us at a quiet table, as we asked. Yolanda, our waitress was wonderful. Those who ordered calamari liked it. The crab cake was good, as was most of the items on bruschetta plate. The Salmon entre, with Brussels sprouts and tiny potatoes was excellent, and a very good portion. The mushroom ravioli was very good. The double chocolate dessert was to die for.

Market St. Grill is a convenient spot to dine before attending a performance at the Orpheum because it is directly (almost) across the street. Menu choices are ok, but prices don't match the quality of the food or the expertise of service. I ordered the scallop risotto and the scallops were perfectly cooked but the risotto was off. The Caesar salad had a faux cream based dressing. The server at one point stuck her arm directly across my plate to replace a knife just as I was lifting the fork to my mouth. For the same price range, I'd rather dine at Zuni and eat a wonderful meal and walk a few extra blocks than dine at MSG. Oh - they will also charge an extra $2 if you want to split an order!

This restaurant is in a great location (so close to the Orpheum Theater) and in a fabulous historic building. But the inside is very, very tired looking, parts of which are extremely dark. Lots of potential to modernize and lighten up the place. The menu is very limited and should be broadened just a bit. What they have is tasty enough to justify eating here before the theater. But for it to be a destination restaurant, it needs work.

Market Street Grille is a very classy, quiet place in the middle of busy, noise Market Street in San Francisco. It is a great place to relax and enjoy a quiet lunch or dinner before a show. The food is quite good and the service is excellent. It isn't cheap, but nothing in San Francisco is cheap. My wife and I greatly enjoyed it.

Location...location...the restaurant is directly across the street from the Orpheum. The food is fine, with somewhat of a limited menu. Service was pleasant. The biggest problem is the ambiance and decor. Dark green British hunting motif...from the '70's(?). Stained glass ceiling over the bar. Dirty unwashed windows look out onto Market street. You have to use the hotel lobby rest rooms. Still...reasonably priced and okay before going to the Orpheum.

Picked this because it was close to the Orpheum theatre., but restaurant is dark and dingy looking inside. The food was ok - entree was quite nice, but dessert tasted stale. Wine list is boring and predictable but reasonably priced. Probably won't be coming back :-(

It's near the Orpheum and parking, the food was reasonably good, and.... that's all there is to recommend about the Market Street Grill. I wish I'd paid a bit more attention to other reviews before booking. So over-priced for the quality of food, service, and ambience. We felt rushed to order, overly-encouraged to order more than we wanted, and then waited 35 minutes for our food to arrive. We arrived at 6:30 for an 8:00 show at the Orpheum, and even though the theater is literally across the street we felt too rushed to order coffee. 6:30 did seem to be prime time for the pre-theater diners, so be sure to book a 6:00 reservation if you want to have a leisurely dinner. Try Chambers Eat + Drink up Larkin from the theater if you want a fun and not over-priced dining experience.

We chose this restaurant for proximity to the Orpheum Theater for a pre-theater dinner. There are numerous trendier spots with more creative food options than this, but being able to comfortably converse was important. The service was attentive, the food well done, and the overall atmosphere is calm.

Hotel and restaurant both well past their prime - service was overall fair; the clam chowder was very rich and creamy though slightly lumpy; the steamed mussels in tomato sauce were quite fresh; the game hen was a bit too well done, but the seafood linguine was not bad at all. All this at a total of $84 (gratuity excluded).

The Market Street Grill is a Chinese restaurant masquerading as an American Hotel restaurant.
The food is slightly better that you would expect at a diner. Plain, ordinary, and not very interesting selections are offered. The servers seem harried yet shy and not congenial in their service. The restaurant decor is a throw back to the 70's and then popular "refectory" look. It could use an upgrade as could the whole building. The only reason we go this restaurant is because it is accross the street from the Orpheum Theater and walking distance from BART. My wife had a Hamburger without the bun I had the their BTLA on whole wheat toast and the truffle french fries which were very oily and without any crunch. We had a very ordinary bottle of Chardonnay the name of which I do not recall. The food was palatable and service perfunctory.
A very bad example of the food quality and service San Francisco has to offer.

We chose Market Street Grill because it was so close to the Orpheum Theatre. Our play was a matinee and it was the perfect place for lunch. I had the steak sandwich with truffle fries and it was very good. The service was great and the restaurant was clean. The only sad part was seeing so many homeless people outside, but they are everywhere in SF.

I initially went to Market Street Grill because of its convenience to the Orpheum theater. The food was ok, but everything about the restaurant seemed dated, from menu choices to presentation.

Something has changed in the last few years. The menu isn't large, but everything on it is tasty, satisfying, and nicely presented. The décor is still old-fashioned, but with the change in food & service, the room feels charming.

Most recently I wasn't too hungry so I had the crab cake, Caesar salad and shared a lemon tart for dessert. All delicious.

The Market Street Grill does well because it is so close to the Orpheum Theater and so convenient. The food was good, not exceptional. Our server was a little snippy and the ambiance was so, so. The hotel/restaurant needs a cosmetic upgrade. The drinks were very good, so that is a plus. I wouldn't go back if it weren't so convenient to the theater.
