In a really dodgy, tatty spot. Only Uber, Lyft or taxi in and out after dark. In tenderloin so be prepared to step over homely and drug users laying about.

This place needs a serious remodel. It’s on a stretch of Market St. That for,Ron & the hotel it’s in is down at the heels. We felt sorry for the place. The food was ok & actually well cooked. Just nor imaginative...or with any design. Solid & real food, doing the best they can. No one in here under 70 yrs. Kinda sad. Wishing them a new owner & for the whole street to take a que from a couple of blocks away.

Food was good, room was comfortable and relatively quiet. Our only concern was slow service, we didn't have enough time before theater for coffee or dessert. Would recommend for simple meal when you have plenty of time.

Great place to dine before a show. I was concerned after reading some of the reviews. The food and service were better than a Cheesecake Factory so if you are expecting fine dining go somewhere else.

This restaurant is "old school" in the very best sense of the word. Fire blazing in the fireplace. Tablecloth on every table. Comfortable chairs. Quiet. Tables spaced far enough apart so you didn't feel like you were dining with anyone except your own party. Great service. Wonderful food. I would and will go there again and because of its proximity to the Orpheum will recommend it to anyone looking to dine before going to the theatre. But this restaurant stands on its own simply for the type of dining experience you just don't find very often anymore. It was a wonderful dining experience and I cannot recommend it more highly.

Loved it! It's a quiet, cozy restaurant - we had a table by the fire--and was perfect for a pre-theatre meal before heading across the street to SHN Orpheum. The food was excellent, especially the mussels and the goat cheese bruschetta.

We went for an early dinner before a performance at the Orpheum Theater....very convenient! The room is lovely although the view out to Market Street leaves alot to be desired. The menu is mostly comfort style food and a few items were not available but what we had was decent and the portions are very large. The waiter was great, friendly and efficient. I would go back again if I were going to the theater but probably not otherwise, as I usually prefer more inventive cooking and there are so many wonderful restaurants here in San Francisco!

If you just need a quick bite before a show at the orpheum, this is a great place. It's near the theatre and the staff is aware of serving quickly because you're trying to catch a show. The food wasn't that great especially since I found the prices to be a little too high. I haven't experienced coming here for just a nice dinner or lunch but it was ok enough to eat at before a show.

This classic 1916 hotel dining room is an architectural gem (with a wonderful bar area, large fireplace, vaulted ceiling) that needs to be supported and maintained as part of the historic San Francisco scene.

Conveniently located near the SHN Orpheum Theater. We have eaten here several times. The menu offers a nice selection with very tasty food. Service is always top notch. Beautiful bar area. You will definitely need a reservation if dining prior to go to the theater.

We had a couple of hours in the Grill pre-theater. The service was unhurried but attentive, the atmosphere cozy, and it was quiet enough that we could hold a conversation (something I find in short supply at most restaurants these days). We shared several small plates and a salad plus wine. Food was attractively served and delicious. Perfect pre-theater restaurant.

Food was decent. We stayed at the Whitcomb to celebrate our 16th anniversary and decided to give the in house restaurant a try. We were seated quickly, the food tasted ok...but the service was rushed, the server never made eye contact, we were so rushed the check was placed on the table while we were still eating, we never were offered the dessert menu, and a chair was added to our table as they reset from a large party beside us while we wer eating. We paid, notified the manager & got THEE HELL OUTTA THERE! Too many fine places to eat in Frisco to deal with this 💩. Never again!

I have unusual food restrictions that are difficult for most restaurants to accommodate. The gracious waiter worked with the chef to provide creative and tasty solutions that were safe for me. My wife and I enjoyed talking in the quiet and welcoming environment. The whole experience was delightful.

A good place for dinner before going to the Orpheum Theater--almost across the street! Food was tasty, but not hot enough; however, we were rushed for time, so just had to eat. The waiter was very helpful about keeping us "on track," and accommodating our time schedule--a bit challenging since our friends were stuck in traffic and ran late. But we ordered 5 different items from the menu and shared everything. Worked out well. Wonderful steamed mussels and scallop risotto.

We picked the Market Street Grill because it is within walking distance of the Orpheum Theater. The bar service was good, and the appetizers were the best part of the meal. The entree's were only fair, the menu was quite boring, and the food not particularly well prepared. For example , I ordered salmon - the sauce was all on the skin and the salmon was way underdone, the mashed potatoes were lumpy and tasteless, the baby carrots were barely warm, and the brussel sprouts, which were promised, were replaced by kale which I hate. I spoke to the server and was for the most part told there weren't any brussel sprouts (even though they were on the menu) and as for the rest of the food , 'that's just the way the chef prepares it". It didn't ruin our evening for we loved the play, but for a restaurant that likely gets many pre/theater diners, the food and choices should have been better.

We had dinner here before a SF Symphony performance. Everything was quite tasty, from the scallop risotto to the steak. Portions were quite large, and the quiet ambiance lent itself to good conversation. We especially appreciated the attentive service--after we had departed and were standing outside chatting, our server came up to return the tip--my husband had failed to notice the gratuity had been included for our group of six. We appreciated the wonderful honesty and the money returned!

It was unfortunate to see the business became slow the day I went for lunch. There were only 3 tables the 1-1/2 hours we were there. The food was prepared well, but some appetizers even angel hair pasta were not available. Service was great; selection of food was limited

The food was delicious and beautifully presented (though I wish my salmon had not had the skin on). The service was fast and efficient without being intrusive. The server was always right on time when we needed him and left us alone when we didn’t.

All in all a very enjoyable experience and one I would happily repeat.

We went for dinner prior to the symphony. We liked the bruschetta, but the salmon was over done. We found the veggies to be undercooked. The spaghetti was less then memorable. A rather inconsistent meal that let done very consistent service.

Disappointing to find such a limited menu. Very few choices. Otherwise a good location to Bart. Be aware there is only a lobby bathroom using a borrowed card key. No restrooms in bar or restaurant.

We always eat here when going to a show at the Orpheum. Great food, friendly staff, Orpheum is right across the street! Short ribs were fabulous and so was the game hen!

The Short ribs were short on flavor. Frankly I was underwhelmed.

We were in The City for Aladdin. We’ll go elsewhere next time.

Very prompt and attentive edit staff. They checked if we were going to a show to make dire we were served in a timely manner.

Twelve of us came here around 5pm after the Aladdin show. We had at least three restaurant staff taking care of our every need. For appetizers we had calamari, muscles, and goat cheese bruschetta. The seafood was outstanding and the bruschetta was good as well. We all had different items for our main course and everyone was happy. The serving time was very quick as well. Great place for dining near the Orpheus!

Great location for Orpheum theater, but very mediocre food and poor service. The waiter came just once to get order, and that's it. Never stopped by and asked for anything else. Also, the quality of the risotto is worse than home made risotto. I cook 10x better ... and costs me $5 not $30.

Location location location is everything. If you are going to the Orpheum for a show, then this is the closest place

The Market Street Grill charged my card twice; had I not checked my online statement I wouldn’t been aware. I charge matched the bill, the second amount was higher; when I called to question the bill, the response was confusing, a “pre-authorization charge” and “to wait a week for it to clear”... didn’t make any sense. The restaurant manager was out; I’ll be calling back next week.

1. Apparently their web site is not up to date. They show rack of lamb on the home page but it is not on the menu. Braised ribs was very good and plentiful. Their brucetta is not the standard type. They bring you a plate with the pureed tomatoes?, cheese with nuts, toasted bread that you put together. My wife liked it though. Largest mussels I have ever seen. Not many though. Great sauce. The salmon was good.
2. Their restaurant open times are screwed up. OPEN TABLE takes reservation between 2-5 pm but they are not open. They are open at 5p for dinner. I called and checked and it is true. So coming from a play across the street on a Sunday that ends at 3:30 can cause a problem. However after walking around finding another establishment for refreshments then going back to MSG, we found out they were open at 4:30 p or so for the "theater crowd"! Wish someone at MSG would make up their mind. Don't they know when there is a play across the street?

Food is not as good as I had remembered. Staff was nice, but a little slow toward the end of our meal. Restaurant was packed as it is near Orpheum Theatre and there was an early performance that night.
