Market Restaurant and Bar Ratings and Reviews
Service was outstanding, they really went out of their way to make sure we felt welcome and comfortable. The manager came by to chat and there were two servers that kept checking in with us.
Food was very good and clearly was carefully prepared. I wouldn’t say the mains were outstanding or innovative. The duck, the miso cod, both prepared very well but not remarkable considering the price and the expectations the restaurant seems to set for itself.
The beet and citrus salad was great, and the tuna tartare was probably the most interesting thing we had. I would return to sit at the bar for a cocktail and the tuna tartare but probably wouldn’t stay for dinner next time. I would rather save my money for a trip to Chez Panisse for some truly remarkable market-themed food.
A nice variety of food choices, from starters to entree's. Portions are what you'd expect at a French restaurant...so have a starter because your dinner will not satiate a hungry appetite.
Wonderful selection of Sommelier choice wines that you won't find in many restaurants...it's fun to try something new from another country.
No surprise, the hamburgler did not enjoy his dinner, the Prime beef short ribs, so my husband traded his skirt steak and they were both happy. I enjoyed the lamb, though, I preferred to eat it without the sauce. I tried the sweet pea salad, the domestic prosciutto was delicious. I think our server, Matt, said it was from Tennesee and they called it Tennesciutto, lol.
Matt was fun and knew how to describe the food, how it was prepared and what to expect. Overall, the service was good...I poured my own wine, twice, but our water was never empty.
We've eaten out a lot and this was definitely one of the most expensive dinners we've had...all the while not ordering anything more or less than we normally do.
Excellent experience from valet, to hostesses, to the team of servers at our table. We had a few questions about meeting items that were answered perfectly. Special shout out to the primary server arranging the bottle of Fonseca '77 to be presented at our table after we ordered a glass!
Excellent food, excellent service (attentive but never intrusive). We had a terrific meal, and everyone kept wishing us Happy Anniversary! I wish we'd have known that they would give us an anniversary dessert; we wouldn't have ordered dessert. But that's not much of a complaint. We had a wonderful time.
We went there recently to celebrate our 15 year anniversary. We were greeted by the manager with congratulations and a nice card! Food was good but our server did not tell us about that night’s specials. After we ordered we overheard another table being told the specials, steak and lobster. That was the kind of meal I was wanting and would have ordered if I had known but instead I had to settle for chicken. We were told that we couldn’t order sushi in the dinning room by our server but the table next to us (different server) ordered sashimi??? Also at the end the server asked us if we wanted dessert so we ordered the carrot cake. After we ordered our dessert we were given a complimentary dessert for our anniversary. It would have been nice to know that the complimentary one was coming before we ordered. Presentation was excellent and the food quality was high. For the price the tables are too close together and we felt we couldn’t have a private conversation (similar to the Cheesecake Factory). Sadly it could have been so much better if our service would have been good.
We were very disappointed with our dinner that night:
1. How long it took for our waiter to take our order. The manager came by and asked how we were doing and she took our order.
2. Our entrees were just okay—not bad enough to send back. We definitely did not take the leftovers home.
Note: The blue cheese soufflé was delicious!
We have eaten at Market 3 times in the past 3 months and the food and service were wonderful. It was my new favorite restaurant.
As we who love good food all know, Market is the finest restaurant in San Diego. With Chinos' incredible vegetables, always bright, new ways of using them and other foods, there is nothing like it between here and Los Angeles. How fortunate we are to have Carl Schroeder and his charming crew in our midst.
This is one our favorite restaurants in San Diego County. The menu is always creative without being fussy. The preparation never disappoints and all details are always perfect. It is always perfect with an easy location. Make sure to make a reservation early.
What a treat! We feel extremely fortunate to have secured a reservation when our travel plans changed at the last minute. All four of us just raved about our evening, from the pre-dinner cocktails, our unique and delicious appetizers (the blue cheese shuffle with pears was unbelievable), and our entrees ...wow. Everything was so delightful, not a morsel was left on a plate. We will surely make the drive from Orange Co again soon.
The taste of the food was overall good. I had the veal and it was a bit salty. My wife had the seared ahi and it was excellent. The service was also excellent. What caused this review not to be higher was that the portions were very small and it was very noisy. I get it that these days most entrees are in the $35 to $45 range for fine dining, but these portions were very small even by fine dining standards. A single small piece of veal and the ahi plate had small portions as well. As for the noise, we were in a back side table in the corner but you still had to yell to be heard.
Our family has been dining at Market since they opened, the food is exceptional and the service excellent. The have a nice bar area with big screen tv's and where you can get sushi, and for the quality of the food, and level of the whole experience the prices are reasonable.
