Market Grille in Manchester, Connecticut is a nice combination between an upscale eatery and a casual restaurant. You can meet your coworkers there for drinks just as easily as you could bring your child to Market Grille for their birthday. The menu is mostly modern American cuisine, but there is also an extensive wine and beer list.
The four-cheese lasagna at Market Grille is very good. Two other very popular entres here are the classic fish and chips and the stuffed domestic pork chop. If you like seafood, the raw bar here will not disappoint. Every day, fresh oysters of all varieties are offered.
Have eaten here several times and will continue to come back. We went on a Monday night and they had a prix fixe special. I think it was $24 for appetizer, entree, and dessert. A real bargain. Some nice choices and a great deal. We all started with a nice field green salad with fresh strawberries. We each had a different entree. Salmon was yummy. One of my friends had the steak and one had shrimp scampi. Steak was nicely cooked. The scampi was more of a shrimp Alfredo. My friend was a little disappointed. The description did not match what she got. She did not make a fuss. Desserts were excellent ( bananas foster, apple tart, and key lime pie). Some great choices again. Service was just ok. A little more attention would have been nice.
Good but nothing exceptional.
Overcooked seafood. One side of swordfish was completely black. The food was delivered black side down so I could not see it.
We wrote a "not so great" review not long ago because, although our dinner was good, scratchy loud, distorted music was playing through the outdoor speakers all through our dinner. On a prior visit, the same thing was happening inside--loud music over the din of the people. On this trip, however, subtle jazz at a reasonable volume level for dining was playing in the background outside. Inside there was no music at all. It was a MUCH nicer experience. I'm not against loud music, but in a bar, not in a restaurant, and in either place not through speakers that can't handle the volume.
Thanks for listening. The food was very good and we will continue to come back.
great menu. great sunday, Monday specials. sirloin was excellent. great desserts.
Bottomline: If the food had not been as fresh, temperature accurate and tasty as it was, I absolutely would have given this two thumbs down based on the poor interior decor and mismatched blend of music given as a sound track. Not sure I would go back. More detailed review: The interior of this restaurant is unpleasant and dated. Totally uninspiring and leaves one wondering who was in charge and what were they thinking. Truly detracted from the experience. The patio area looked nice with a gas fire and plenty of seating. The interior bar area did not look at as unattractive as the rest of the interior dining space. But the carpet, the giant lamps and vases, and industrial ceiling and crushing light fixtures, the color scheme, booth cushions, everything = hideous. Also, the music playing throughout was disjointed and non thematic. Songs did not paint a mood or set a tone, but seemed randomly selected and in no way related to anything at all. Truly the place gave off an unplanned and awkward vibe. Drinks were good, interesting, and zippy but overpriced. For example lemon ginger martini was delicious and different but at $11 should have been better chilled, and better presented with a tad more in the glass. The clam chowder, everything but sink and blt wedge salads were all delicious and decently proportioned with only slight overpricing. Entree 1 was chicken & sausage pasta and was interesting blend of tastes and generous portion. Entree 2 was mac & cheese with lobster add in. Small portion of pasta, delicious blend of cheeses, good sized chunks of lobster claw, but overpriced for the size served. Oh, and our server forgot our bread.
We met friends for dinner and it was a very nice restaurant. Everyone enjoyed their meals but the Kansas City steak was very think and had some grizzle. The chicken and fish dishes and appetizers were wonderful.
While the service was a little slow and the waitress forgot water, salt and pepper, and the runner at first brought the wrong food, the meal was great. I would suggest going at a less busy time to get the normal excellent food and service we have come to expect.
We regularly eat dinner here and everything is great. But we tried brunch on Father's Day and it was disappointing to say the least. First, at 11 am on a Sunday they had hard rock playing loudly, clearly bar music in dining area. Second, it took over an hour to get our food. And third, the food was cold.
Started with 5 people at our table, unexpectedly grew to 8. Service didn't miss a beat. Very good service throughout the night. Would recommend to a friend.

Market Grille has a good bar and excellent food, with an emphasis on lighter fare. While they do admirably with full course dinners, their strength is in starters, appetizers, salads (small and entree size), and the like. Great spot before a movie (with a multiplex less than a mile away) or for a quicker lunch or dinner.
We found it to be quite pricey for the quality of the food. The steaks were small and grizzly. The staff and atmosphere were great.
The Mill on the River Group offers a fine variety of upscale restaurants. Market Grille food is beautifully presented and always nicely prepared. Outdoor dining is available, although you must look past the parking lot to see the beautiful views in the distance. I always enjoy this restaurant, inside or out, at a table or in the bar.
was not able to click on the above recommendations. great place - excellent food .. will def come back. specials are wonderful and fair priced.
Always fantastic! Everything, food, service=perfect! Huge menu selection!
We always have a great dinner at Market Grille. Always had exceptional food and service. This time we went for lunch. The food was just okay, but the service was terrible. The waitress didn't even acknowledge that it was my husband's birthday even after I told her that is what we were celebrating. We never received bread at the table and I had to ask for salt and pepper. Very poor service. Maybe she was having a bad day or didn't want to work, but we expected her to be a little more welcoming.
I was very happy with my recent visit. When you're looking to dine somewhere with outdoor seating this place can't be beat. Our appetizers drinks and entrées were all very good. We had the Calamari which was lightly breaded with some spicy peppers that was fine. I had chicken piccata which melted in your mouth and was absolutely delicious. Initially it was overcooked, but they quickly and happily remedied it without any debate. My partner had the Sesame tuna which was also very good. They have some unique drinks and their own infusions which is very nice. Overall the food was very good and the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend.
Bad experience. Food was cold twice. Service was less then desirable.
We were a party of 4 to celebrate a birthday. The service and food were excellent. We were seated right at the time of our reservation and enjoyed dinner on their outdoor patio. I had included in the comments when making the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and the server brought desert for the birthday girl with a candle without me having to ask which I thought was a very nice touch. Some items may be a bit pricey but the food is delicious.
