MARKET Ratings and Reviews
Its been a while since we went to Market as we've been traveling lots. We live just down the street. We went here recently and had one of the best meals ever! It made us realized again why this is our favourite restaurant in the Calgary. No other restaurant can compare and the reviews speak for themselves, this place is AMAZING! Everything is so good! The tartare is to die for, along with the with poutine and the Gnocchi! We went for lunch and had the $25 three course meal which was such a good value!! The Fried Chicken sandwich is GLUTEN FREE, which is amazing for a celiac. Pretty much most of their menu can be made gluten free with their own specific GF fryer!!! We have also been for dinner and the Bison and the Chicken were both cooked to perfection! Our server was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. We love to come here because we actually feel warm and welcome. The Manager is also extremely nice and makes sure that she says hi when we come in. I strongly recommend market to anyone. We are already booking our next visit this week!
Well this is disappointing. I always liked the Market experience. What has happened? The food was terrible. The stand by of duck taco was distinctly lacking in flavour. There were 4 of us for dinner. My main was the Bison rib. At $35/plate was not one of the cheaper menu items but it isn’t about the money until you feel it is bad value.
The ribs were tough and dry. The dish was swimming in a “jus” that was plain old disgusting. There was nothing appealing about the combination of flavours. The maple fennel slaw type veg was swimming in too sweet Saskatoon berry jus topped by dry and tough to chew short ribs. The fingerling potatoes were the only part that was edible. The other mains were equally unappetizing. The Brant Lake wagyu burger was over cooked and was served on a crappy white bun .
The waiter was smug. Would refill the guy’s beers but ignored empty water and wine glasses.
Thoroughly disappointing experience.
Dined here recently on a Sunday evening.Just ordered mains, duck and lamb. Both were done to perfection and the sides served were delicious. Wine available by the glass or bottle. Our waiter made a non-alcololic cocktail for me and it was very good, not on the drinks menus, so this was a special touch. Also both ordered deserts (creme brulee and the tri chocolate) and both were good. Ordered a cappucino, which I thought was on the bitter side. Love the atmosphere here, nice and bright and able to hear each other as they have sound proofing pads on the ceiling. Found the prices a little on the high side; not sure we would return as other restaurants with just as good a quality can be found with more reasonable prices. My biggest complaint, although some might find this picky, is the fact that they did not provide proper knives for our meat. Hard to cut rare meat with a simple table knife...should provide steak knives.
Had an amazing dinner at Market with my family. We wanted to share all the dishes family style and come out in courses and they executed perfectly. We started with the Brussel sprouts and beef tartare. They were both delicious. We then had the Gnocchi and Lobster Mac and Cheese. The Gnocchi is one of my favourites with a delicious truffle cream sauce and they just melt in your mouth. The Mac & Cheese didn't skimp on the lobster! It had some in the dish and a claw on the top. After that we had the Thursday night special board for $40. It was a beautifully done Lamb Shank that fell apart with a perfect blend of spices in the sauce and veggies on the side. For dessert, I highly recommend the Bon Bons. They make their chocolates in house so they are fresh and delicious! Our server was very attentive and it was a great meal! I will definitely be going back!
My kids loved that they have board games there to play while waiting for the food to come. We had their banana pancakes, lobster corn dogs, and duck confit waffle. The combination of duck and sweet waffle was perfect. However, they do not have high chairs or boosters so not very kid friendly on that front.
I had been to Market before with a girlfriend in the summer for Sunday brunch on the patio and it had been lovely. I thought I would bring my husband so we made a reservation for Sunday Brunch. I requested to be close to a window, but when we arrived I was escorted near the kitchen in the back, although it did have a window nearby, I asked to moved to the front in the sunshine so we could people watch. The server did move us as there were only four or five tables and not busy at all. My husband's chair was cracked so kept pinching him in the back. We waited for our food for 45 minutes, even though it wasn't busy at all. I had a mimosa and our server didn't ask if I wanted a refill until our plates were delivered. I said I did want another one, however it was never served to me. The food was quite good, although when we were finished it took our server another 20 minutes with empty plates until my husband finally signaled the server across the room that we wanted our bill. When my husband asked if the kitchen was short staff our server looked at him funny and said, "no, why?" She then went on to gossip to the other server about us right in front of us behind the bar. Even though the food was good, we probably won't go back.
We went early in the evening when it was not busy, there were only a few other tables seated at the time, and the service was slow to start surprisingly. Once we got our drinks things picked up and was no longer a concern. Cocktails and food were great, love how they grown and make a lot of their own food. Bathrooms cute and clean. Absolutely LOVED that they have a real Christmas tree. Overall would go back
I absolutely adore this restausrant. I’ve been here for several occasions and every time the food has been incredible, the service is always excellent and the atmosphere is stunning. It has been my favourite restaurant for the past few years and remains to be! I recommend it to everyone. It’s the best restaurant in Calgary in my opinion. The best way to discribe the food is, it feels like quality home cooked food that is wholesome and nutritious. It’s like healthy comfort food made with love! I adore everything that Vanessa has created and appreciate her efforts in being a counter force in her industry. <3
Food was great. Loved the flavour of the burger though the bun was kinda soggy and my wife shared her fried chicken sandwich which was also super tasty. 1/2 off wine Mondays was a pleasant surprise which allowed us to have a nicer bottle which is usually out of our budget . We've been coming here for years and will continue to do so.
Overall average but the entree was disappointing especially for the price. We had the duck trio which was $35 and it wasn’t impressive at all. The appetizers were good however, and the value for those was good. We had the lobster mac and cheese and the poutine. All of their dishes were quite salty. Ambience was good and service was average. Our server forgot one of our order but was really friendly and apologized as soon as we mentioned it. Overall the food and experience wasn’t bad but for the price I wouldn’t go back. At the designated times when prices are lower I would say it’s worthwhile.
The food quality is very good. The issue with Market is the service and how the food is presented. The Dinner Platter for 2 was described by the server as a large amount of food; we were cautioned against ordering appetizers. Good thing we ignored that advice, as the Dinner for 2 is more like Dinner for 1.5. The Dinner for 2 tasted great, but the presentation of things like the short rib looks skimpy - it’s like they are trying to give you less of the expensive items. This looks bad. Raise the price if you must, but it’s a mistake as a restaurant to present anything anemic looking.
Sunday night dinner with another couple The food was outstanding. The appetizer choice left us in a quandary of how we could order and taste the most number of dishes that would appeal to all of us - or at least 3 or 4. The Brussels Sprouts were unbelievable if a bit sweet - gooey deliciousness, the gnocci was enjoyed heartily and my husband fancies himself a gnocci afficiondo - light with a delicate creamy sauce. We shared the chefs platter for two which that night was perfectly cooked salmon, crispy blue potatoes, green beans and carrots (both still al dente) and a market salad. The service was interesting - there weren't many people on a Sunday night and he seemed to want to chat. He kept calling us my friend(s) which seemed a little odd (ok we're in our 60's) and also kept inserting himself into our conversation which seemed really odd. He was a nice enough guy and did a pretty good job of the descriptions and general service but we all noticed it and were somewhat perplexed. I guess we looked friendly. The ambience is fine if a bit cold - really hard chairs and a very open room with a lot of hard surfaces in a farm/industrial look. I suspect it would very noisy if full. Overall we enjoyed our dinner very much. The food certainly was worth the 5* rating. Keep up the good work Market.
Thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant. The location, the service, and the food, were top rate. Very busy, but comfortable. Ordered the Market salad and the bison ribs, and we were delighted with the flavours and textures. I would highly recommend this for a good night out.
We really enjoyed the popcorn, oysters and corn dogs shared among 3 We found the Boar lasagna was nothing special. small portion for $25.00. We all commented on the white sauce on top that had no taste and was like eating a paste even though it was a thin layer. We thought the presentation was fabulous. I would go again for appetizers, drinks and a chocolate.
staff was great.
We arrived at 8:15. We had a reservation but got seated in the lounge. The waitress didn’t even say hello before she started listing all the menu items that they were out of. This was really disappointing.
The service continued to be less then friendly. I finally asked the waitress if she was ok. When our wine was corked she proceeded to recommend a bottle $20 per bottle more expensive than the one we had ordered, which felt a little cheeky.
The food that we did have we delicious. Gnocchi and tacos.
