Had another amazing meal here! Each time we come we keep getting blown away. I love the open kitchen concept, its nice to see all the cooks in the back working hard but always with a smile on their face! The food is always on point, fresh, and delicious! Best tasting menu in the city by far! The service is always great. They know how to read a table and know if you want to be left alone to catch up with your partner , but is always there when you need them! I tell everyone about this restaurant and is my favorite in the city! Thanks for an amazing meal Market!
I came here to celebrate a birthday and wasn’t impressed. The food lacked flavour and my lamb was rare. I wasn’t asked about the quality of my meal so I didn’t say anything. It was hard to get the attention from our server so i did not have a chance to see the dessert menu. Disappointed with my experience.
We loved the food and all of our servers recommended dishes. Everything was amazing. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend it to everyone.
We went for Big Taste and tried every course with the suggested wine pairings. All the food was excellent and the staff was great as well. Highly recommended! :0)
It was very busy and our waiter seemed very rushed. He brought the wrong wine and discounted the difference in price, but rushed away before i coukd ask him to replace it.
The duck tacos were so salty I could only eat two of the four - I told the waiter and again he was so distracted he didnt even care.
I feel that if people are going to go to your restaurant and spendvtgeir hard earned money you have to treat them with respect and not make them feel they are a bother.
Had a fantastic dining experience with friends! The restaurant was very busy but we still received great service. There was a slight wait as the table before us was just finishing up dessert, but we were offered a free glass of bubbles while we waited which was a great touch! Our table was ready in 10 minutes and our server was amazing! He was super attentive even though it was extremely busy. A couple of us had food allergies and they were really accommodating to everyone. The food was out of this world good. Everything was cooked perfectly and there are so many amazing options to choose from. Price point is good for the amazing value you get. Drinks were also delicious, the smoked maple old fashion is my favourite and the wine list is small but has a wide range of great wines at good price points. The couple we brought with us said it might be the best meal they ever had, we would have to agree! Keep it up Market, your our favourite restaurant!
The restaurant was a great experience for fresh , local, and creative food.
It was my husband Birthday meal. And we have had extremely good Brunches here in the past and wanted to give the Evening menu a try. We felt that the table that we was assigned was not a particularly nice table, being close to the restrooms and the walkway. We felt as if we where in the way most of the time. And would recommend that table to be removed or place someplace else. The food was ok it was tasty enough. But for $35 for each main we would have expected something a little nicer. The starters menu didn't offer a great selection either. So we would definitely recommend this place for Brunch but they need to work on the Evening menu service.
We went here for "Big Taste" and it was amazing! This is our favourite restaurant in the city and we were really excited to try their "Big Taste" menu. The value was great for 5 courses for $65. Everything was so delicious and cooked perfectly. We always get great service when we come here and seriously can't find another place in the city that even compares. Their menu has options for everyone and they are super accommodating if you have allergies or special requests. Can't say enough good things. If your looking for a nice night out with friends or your partner, this is the place to be. Good food, relaxed/fun atmosphere, friendly staff, and great drinks! Love it!
Honestly it’s not that the food was bad, it just missed the mark. It was just average... that’s why we prob wouldn’t go back or recommend it to someone. We had the farm plate which came with a mini loaf of bread but would have been better with crostini’s or something a little more firm. Also the beef tartar was paired with a chip that may have been better suited with something different. All personal taste I suppose. Both my husband and I felt the same about our experience. Our waiter was nice though. Also the table felt very close together and not intimate at all
We went for Big Taste and usually I love Market but the quality was really lacking for our chicken sandwich. My sandwich came out with browned fried chicken and a toasted bun, but my husband’s came out looking like uncooked dough and grey chicken. We told the waitress who apologized and gave us some free chocolates but overall it was pretty disappointing when it is usually quite good.
Perfect food, friendly service, lovely drinks. The only downside today was the extremely loud music but it's their schtick to blast club hits over brunch for their "bangover" ambiance, so we knew this going in!
Always a special experience to dine at Market. Hip Hop Brunch was a lot of fun. Service was fabulous as was the food (gluten free for celiac). Mimosa could have less mim and more ‘osa’. All in all a great brunching hard time.
Although we have had a wonderful dining experience at Market before, we went for The Big Taste and found the food to be mediocre sadly. The dishes were alright, but not up the standard, nor value, we expected.
An absolutely delicious meal, paired with tasty beer and wine. The food was well thought out and focused on local ingredients. I can't recommend this place enough.
Every time we come back to Calgary we ensure to make time to stop by and have dinner here! Every single meal we’ve ever had has been incredible and so creative. They accommodate every food restriction with grace (we have a celiac and a dairy-free request). We recently have brought our families to dine with us on our trip as well and they had nothing but rave reviews. It’s a smaller hole in the wall, but once you walk in you feel at home. We especially love summer dining, as the patio is green and the people watching on 17th ave is fun! Start with the Brussels sprouts (even for the skeptics out there) and finish off with a bonbon from the glass case at the front!
Food and atmosphere were great but we had a less than friendly server that put a damper on the experience.
The food was very good but if I could make a suggestion it would be to remove truffle oil From the beef tartar. I find that it’s an over used product in restaurants today.
Great food. Great service. I was a little chilly sitting by the door but not much you can do about that inn this weather.
Best Experience EVER! We came here for Valentines for their special menu and was blown away. It was crazy busy, but they went out of their way to make everyone feel special. We had to wait about 5 minutes for our table to be ready, but they offered us complimentary bubbles which was such a nice touch! I have never had better service anywhere else in the city. The staff were so friendly and we love coming here because we always feel so welcome and at home. They were featuring a five course menu for $100 which was an amazing value and came with a drink! We were so full after and the food was cooked to perfection. I can't say enough good things about how tasty the food is here. We've been so many times and it just gets better and better! We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine that our server recommended which was really well priced ($45) and it was amazing. Everything was perfect and we look forward to coming back again soon. Thank you Market for making our valentines the best one yet!
Great place with superb staff who work really hard without being 'in your face' . Delicious food, relaxed, professional and a really nice neighbourhood vibe when many other places on 17th are a lot more impersonal.
Just finished eating an outstanding meal here! Each time we dine here we are blown away! I will continue to recommend this place to all my friends. We have sent many friends to this restaurant and they always let us know about their great experiences! Well done Market, best restaurant in the city!
The brussel sprouts were amaxing. I'd recommend that dish!
A total let down. Mediocre food for inflated prices.
One of my favorites. In my experience, the food and service has been consistently great!
We had great service and the main dishes were great! The dessert was way overpriced for what was on offer.
Picked it for dinner with a friend from Europe because she wanted to try Contemporary Canadian fare. Was not disappointed
Our server was very entertaining.
We had a lovely time on date night. The platter was yummy and great value!
There wasn't a whole lot available to me as a celiac to eat although the menu states they can make most things gluten free/friendly. When I asked the waiter didn't know too much about what actually could be "made" gluten free, the only thing he knew about was that they had gluten free buns. When a restaurant advertises they can make most things gluten free to me this means we have a gluten free batter we can use for our chicken, fish etc, a gluten free batter we can make pancakes, waffles etc. This doesn't mean we just remove whatever yummy glutinous ingredient there may be in the dish, it means we actually can modify our ingredients. When one of the other guest at our table who eats more health conscious asked for an alternative to milk there was none. No almond, coconut. When our other guest asked for hot sauce they were given the same thing I was given for my fish tacos, but charged $2.00 unknowingly.
My husband and I have just embarked on a gluten free diet and the waiter was very good about letting us know what would work for that as per the menu. He was also quite witty and hilarious!! But was great at leaving us alone to enjoy our food and each other. The food was delicious, fresh and we felt worth the cost (which we didn't feel was overly expensive by any means). A great place for a date or couples evening. Thanks Market for a lovely evening
We went here for my birthday and it was amazing. Ended up arriving about 15 minutes earlier then our reservation and they were able to seat us right away. We ordered the popcorn to snack on while we waited for our meals. My husband normally doesn't eat popcorn but because it was so good he even munched on it! He ordered the bison short ribs- AMAZING he loved them. So tender and smoky. I ordered the Duck Trio- I am a duck lover and I was drooling over this dish. The duck was perfectly done and had amazing flavor. The toasted pine nuts gave a nice texture to the dish. To finish the meal I ordered the Salted Caramel gelato. OMG I was in heaven! We will definitely be back again!
A great meal tonight at Market, Thursday night being date night with a great value $40 dinner for two. Beautiful slow-cooked pork belly on mash with an interesting coleslaw offering. Terrific wine choice and excellent service. Excellent delivery in all areas - we are lucky to have this 'go to' restaurant on our doorstep.
The food was amazing and I would go back in a heartbeat.
One of the best meals I have had in Calgary, I have been here for 8 years and head chef Evan really knocked it out of the park such an amazing experience and the food was top notch, I will be going back for sure and will recommend it to all
We had a great server named Jen! She was very attentive and friendly. Furthermore, the food was way above standard with an array of different choices for any palette. Highly recommended for any occasion and don’t forget half priced wine every Monday!!
Its been a while since we went to Market as we've been traveling lots. We live just down the street. We went here recently and had one of the best meals ever! It made us realized again why this is our favourite restaurant in the Calgary. No other restaurant can compare and the reviews speak for themselves, this place is AMAZING! Everything is so good! The tartare is to die for, along with the with poutine and the Gnocchi! We went for lunch and had the $25 three course meal which was such a good value!! The Fried Chicken sandwich is GLUTEN FREE, which is amazing for a celiac. Pretty much most of their menu can be made gluten free with their own specific GF fryer!!! We have also been for dinner and the Bison and the Chicken were both cooked to perfection! Our server was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. We love to come here because we actually feel warm and welcome. The Manager is also extremely nice and makes sure that she says hi when we come in. I strongly recommend market to anyone. We are already booking our next visit this week!
Food was mediocre at best, service slow, restaurant really loud - waiter couldn’t hear us
Well this is disappointing. I always liked the Market experience. What has happened? The food was terrible. The stand by of duck taco was distinctly lacking in flavour. There were 4 of us for dinner. My main was the Bison rib. At $35/plate was not one of the cheaper menu items but it isn’t about the money until you feel it is bad value.
The ribs were tough and dry. The dish was swimming in a “jus” that was plain old disgusting. There was nothing appealing about the combination of flavours. The maple fennel slaw type veg was swimming in too sweet Saskatoon berry jus topped by dry and tough to chew short ribs. The fingerling potatoes were the only part that was edible. The other mains were equally unappetizing. The Brant Lake wagyu burger was over cooked and was served on a crappy white bun .
The waiter was smug. Would refill the guy’s beers but ignored empty water and wine glasses.
Thoroughly disappointing experience.
Dined here recently on a Sunday evening.Just ordered mains, duck and lamb. Both were done to perfection and the sides served were delicious. Wine available by the glass or bottle. Our waiter made a non-alcololic cocktail for me and it was very good, not on the drinks menus, so this was a special touch. Also both ordered deserts (creme brulee and the tri chocolate) and both were good. Ordered a cappucino, which I thought was on the bitter side. Love the atmosphere here, nice and bright and able to hear each other as they have sound proofing pads on the ceiling. Found the prices a little on the high side; not sure we would return as other restaurants with just as good a quality can be found with more reasonable prices. My biggest complaint, although some might find this picky, is the fact that they did not provide proper knives for our meat. Hard to cut rare meat with a simple table knife...should provide steak knives.
