Food and service was excellent as expected. Portion size is just right. Only disappointment was that the menu was basically unchanged from the last time I had eaten there months ago.
Food was fantastic but I found the 2 plates plus dessert too much for lunch. I would have preferred being allowed to pick just one item if that is all I wanted.
The food was great. It was the first time here and actually was the first time my friend had fine dining. He said the food was great. I think it's alright.
I had crab fritters, short rib and chocolate pudding. The short rib takes a bit like chinese food as the sauce is like ginger, sour, sweet flavour. Same for the crab fritters, the sauce is like soy bean sauce. I like the taste of seared scallop and shrimp sashimi from my friends the best.
The service was good. The presentation of food was good. We took a lot of photos of the food and there is no complaints about that even in high end restaurant like this.
$29 is really a good deal for it.
The Market is a good place for both occasions and upscale regular dining. The ambiance was warm with a special section overseeing the Thurlow/Alberni intersection.
The seared scallops was made just right - seared to just cooked, yet you can taste the freshness.
The Pacific Halibut's portions was appropriately sized as an entree. The Halibut was cooked to exhibit its texture and goes on very well with spinach. The sweet garlic lemon broth was the game changer - adding a twist that springs up taste buds.
Improvements can be made to the service. Our server ignored contact a few times and did not check in on our dishes until very late. She was otherwise polite.
Overall, the Market is a very nice place worth frequenting.
When ordering we were being interupted as we were speaking and also being interupted constantly throughout our meal as well, with food in our mouths. It's nice to have a server come by and be attentive but there is that fine line that was crossed into pushy. As well, I felt rushed. There was not even 5 mintues inbetween our appetizers and our main course. When my partner got his meal steak it was under cooked, it was pretty much blue (hence also being rushed). I thought the food was great, the flavours very well put together. I'd go again because the food was good but if we were to receive the same service I would not go back.
We waited 20 minutes for our table, not even taken into bar. We specifically requested a quite table as we were celebration our anniversary. Instead we were given a table in a side room occupied by a very loud table of 6. There was a table of 2 beside us that asked to be moved due to the noise. Our cocktails never arrived and we ate our appetizers with water and NO bread. The noise was now so obnoxious that we too asked to be moved. The restaurant manager(?) who came to move us apologised and said our cocktails would be comped, I said they never arrived! When asked if we wanted them now,I said no thank you as I had just ordered a bottle of wine. When our bill arrived, absolutely nothing was comped, which only added insult to injury.
MARKET attempts an amalgamation of JG's Central Park locales into one dinning experience. The pomp of Jean Georges with the laid back atmosphere of Nougatine. For Vancouver it seems like a nice fit. I was able to have some re-imagined favorites from NYC (the pea soup and foie gras brulee for example)without the suit and tie. Which is not to say this is jeans and t-shirt dining. The amuse buche is missing, as are the endless parade of extras (including the chocolates that accompany you home). All in all the experience is noteworthy for its efficiency (we had a show later that evening and our courses were timed perfectly so as not to rush us) and perfection. Really, nothing could be faulted other than wishing the menu had been more extensive.
We went for lunch and did the $29 menu. The Tuna Tartar, Warm Asparagus Salad, Chocolate Pudding were EXCELLENT. Service was good but there was a long wait (20 min) between appetizer and entree. We watched others seated after us get ther food with no explanation form our waiter. Finally someone came by and told us our food was coming, and then it came.... about 5 min later.
I have been impressed every time I have been to Market. Whether for a drink and nibbles on a Friday night before dancing, or their amazing value of a deal for lunch, the food is exquisite and the prices reasonable. I recommend this restaurant on a regular basis. It truly is a gem.
Excellent service and food. A real gem.
The service at Market was exceptional and the food was fantastic. The artic char was cooked perfectly and the short ribs were spectacular.
too slow to get the food. wouldn't go there while starving.
Dining experiance was outstanding, but I had chance to go for breakfast next day and tryed one of the signature dishes, it was AMASING!!!
The tasting menu with wine tasting menu was wonderful.
Food was good to very good but the service was excellent. The dessert menu was disappointing
My fish was way too salty had to returned it. However, the second one is the same. Very disappointed.
The service was unbelievably slow, we waited 30+ minutes from the appetizers to the main course and was only offered bread once! When we ordered the special water, a different water was brought to us until we corrected it. Plus the server didn't seem interested in our party of 2. It was good food and a beautiful atmosphere, but for those prices, I would rather go to another restaurant where they make it feel like a special occasion. The server didn't even wish my mother a Happy Mother's Day when I said it was my mother's first time here. I don't think I would go back for a while as there are many other fine dining restaurants in Vancouver and there was nothing special to entice me back.
It seems that there were only 3 wait staff on before 7 pm and more afterwards. Bus person were busy with serving bread, water but had to ask for more bread as they do not give a bread basket per table. It seems service has not improve much.
Market is one of my very favorite spots in the city. Delicious food, great service, fabulous ambience! I love it all. Perfect for a romantic date, late night drinks, brunch with family or friends.
A bit surprise about the quality of the food. Great 3 course price of $29.00 but I found the food alright, the salmon eggs benedict was warm and not hot. Nothing overly special about this place, other than it was a special occasion, Mother's Day in fact.
My third time there, and it never gets any less amazing. The chef's artistry with food is akin to a painter creating fine art with a palette of colours and mixed media. The combinations of flavours and textures create a multi-dimensional, multi-level sensory experience that is extraordinary. And complemented with a sommelier who's willing to take risks on pairings (which really pay off), plus very fine service by the skilled and knowledgeable wait staff, dining here is a special experience.
I was very happy with my dining exerience and will dine at market again!
Fresh local ingredients. Very good presentation. Spotty service.
Portion is small.Desert souffle is divine. But it is noisy.
The atmosphere was nice and the restaurant was very well appointed. The dressng for our shrimp salad was wnderful but the shrimp were slightly over-cooked and so a little rubbery. The same went for our fish. The broth was very flavourful and the saltiness was compensated for by the lack if salt in the fish. Unfortunately, the dessert was a very big disappointment. The ice-cream had no complexity and tasted very much like a fancy version of Lucerne bucket ice-cream. The warm chocolate cake was also nothing to write home about. The only real positive thing about it was that it wasn't overly sweet. A top-notch place like Market should have top-notch desserts. The service was fantastic. Kenneth was attentive without being obtrusive.
My first visit to this restaurant was May 6 and I took 3 clients with me. We all enjoyed our meals but the service was painfully slow. It took 45 minutes before our waiter took our order and at the same time we had to ask for bread. I would not rush back anytime soon.
The service and food were exceptional. I hope to be back here again!
DOV can be a wonderful experience or not. In this case, it was not, and I had so looked forward to trying this restaurant. We wanted to enjoy ourselves and ordered drinks - very pricy ones I might add. The cocktails, and the wine, and the first course all came at the same time, and I felt i was on a stop watch. This seems like the most elementary error that a beginner restaurant might make - but this was Market! The fish entree was dry and nearly tasteless. The dessert - a hot lava cake and ice cream- was fantastic. There are so many wonderful restaurants in Vancouver that I see no need to return to this one.
Restaurant and staff were great but we were here during Dineout Vancouver so it was busy and I must say our entree was only warm. I'm sure they would generally be better.
Great lunch...so good we did it twice in 3 days! Great service and spectacular food. Love this place
The food was disappointing giving it was listed as one of the most booked restaurant on opentable. Nothing too impressive at all in general. The service was terrible, waitress way too busy focusing on the table ordered wine, we had to ask for bread when the other table gets instant refill the whole time, did not refill my water, completely ignorance the whole time. Definitely not a place to go again.
service and food were not bad. but maybe because of the dine out event, it was very noisy... and the tables were pretty close together, basically i can clearly hear what the other party's conversation
i took my parents there for lunch. The food was fabulous and we really had a good time.
Very good food overall- excellent for most of the dishes, good for some others
Normally food and service are very good. This time, they made a mistake on our order, were very slow at food delivery, and the eggs benedict were not that great. Still love the place, but maybe not for brunch.
Lunch at Market was the best meal of a 'foodie' week in Vancouver! Everything was creative and flavourful. For $29 its the best upscale deal in town.
Great food..excellent service... Would definately go again..
My daughter took me for lunch. She is a great foodie and had eaten there before. She knew it would appeal to me, and i have to say it did. I enjoyed the food, it's presentation and the service was very good. The only thing I wasn't happy about was sitting so close to the couple beside us. It made it hard to talk without being heard.
My friend visiting couldn't believe the value and quality compared to restaurants in Calgary. We had an amazing food experience.
Our visit to Market by Jean-Georges was disappointing. After a 20 minute wait for our table we were seated and presented with the menu. The choices were extremely limited...maybe 5 options on the starter list and an equal number on the main course list. My appetizer of seared scallops was so overcooked it had to be returned to the kitchen. The second try at this dish was prepared properly. The main course was unimaginative and lacked any sense of composition. There many wonderful restaurants in Vancouver but based on my experience this is not one of them.
