Mariposa at Neiman Marcus - Ala Moana Ratings and Reviews
Food was good and staff very pleasant but when it came to actual service not up to parr. Started out great but went down hill as the meal progressed. Although the room was not busy the staff seemed to disappear and we had a very long wait at the end. Were never asked if we wanted coffee etc., and after waiting way too long had to ask for our check when we finally saw our server go by.
Used several times before at lunch time. Visited dinner time this time for last day of holiday in Hawaii so kind a special occasion. My family sat at table in lanai for sunset. A view was great for enjoying the sunset. Our garçon was ok and nothing special. didn’t give our little girl cutlery until we asked. pasta source was too rich and desert was too sugary. ribeye steak was good.
In short, lunch time is much better and reasonable than dinner time.
As always, it was a lovely experience with exceptional service. We secured a table with a stunning sunset view. Minor downside was that it seemed they didn't have a few of the wines--perhaps because it was right after the holidays? It was a wonderful way to send off my daughter back to NY. Mahalo to our waiter and the Mariposa staff!
The whole experience was great. The only problem was, we had to wait quite a while every time we wanted to ask for an item.
Two of the guests had to wait to ask for chopsticks and tobacco, and the rest of us were half done. The drinks didn’t get refilled right away either.
Everything was good but since it was time to switch from day to evening settings it seemed like all the staff was lined up at the Ewa side of the restaurant watching like hawks for customers to finish so they could swoop in and clean up the tables for the next setting. A little uncomfortable being watched so closely.
Treated my family to a nice dinner here. We got the beet salad and sesame tuna salad to share, along with ordering the lamb chop, beef tenderloin and ribeye steak. Finished up with the lilikoi cake and hazelnut praline.
Pro: The portions were just right - good amount for the price. The truffle potatoes that came with my lamb chop was amazing. Server was very attentive. Loved the ambiance, and the location was great! They had an open view of the Friday fireworks!
Con:However, 4 of the 5 entrees looked like they were burnt on the edges (half of the Brussels sprouts that came with my lamb chops were so black they were not edible, sides of the steak and lamb chop were very charred)
The food was nothing special for the price - at $24, I would expect the eggs benedict to be exceptional but they were served with dry short ribs and a side of tasteless and hard melon. The popovers were dry. Someone at our table ordered the burger - very ordinary, there are a lot of places in Honolulu that offer a much better burger in nice settings. The only redeeming element was the great service. Very expensive for the quality of the food - I have been going for the past 10 years but don't think I will be returning.
I was very disappointed in the service. The restaurant was not full. I had made reservations for myself, my 98 year old mother and my granddaughter. We had to wait when we arrived; however; there were plenty of empty tables. After being seated, it took three requests to get a glass of water and several more to get our drinks. The consume arrived and I had to ask several times for popovers. It took too long to get our meal and my granddaughter fell asleep before the food arrived.
I have always enjoyed Mariposa as has my elderly mother, but this was very disappointing.
The food was good.
