Mariposa at Neiman Marcus - Ala Moana Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I lived in NY for most of our lives. We now reside in Kaneohe, Oahu Hawaii. We’ve had lunch at Mariposa more times then we can count and therefore never made a reservation via Open Table. We would put our name on a list, walk around the center and they would call you. We promised ourselves that during the Christmas Season we would shop late at Ala Moana Center, check out the decorations and make a reservation at Mariposa for dinner. What a treat. We had drinks at the bar. Maybe the best bartender we’ve ever had in or out of NYC. He knows his wine and the entire menu. We also learned a lot about Hawaiian culture. Dinning on the Lanai is a true experience whether for lunch or dinner. We loved watching the boats pass by in the distance and also the lights of the marina nearby. The menu was very eclectic, spanning the globe. We had a superb soup special which was an amazing consommé of marrow bones followed by a great perfectly cooked and juicy pork chop and a delicious spaghetti bolognese. Their wine list isn’t too shabby! A true French Champagne for under $70. The waitstaff is also superbly attentive and very knowledgeable.
I've always enjoyed the lunch at Maripose, can't beat the view. Our party had the Sunday egg benedict and Poki . The Poki was unusually bad, I almost was going to return it. Very disappointing. The egg benedict also had almost no taste. Really not what I have experienced before. I wonder we they had a staff change.
We are visiting the restaurant on a semi regular basis. We love the ambiance and the service. Unfortunately what is branded into my memory is the mens bathroom. I went after lunch into the bathroom and clearly no one has been checking it for a while...towels were all over the floor and after opening the first stall I jumped back - it looked like a movie scene the toilet bowl was filled to the brim (I hope I dont have to spell it out here) and had a giant pile of tissue on top of the ..., opening the next stall the floor and the wall was covered in excrement (I am not making this up) and in the third and last stall the bowl was again and filled to the top with a giant pile of bath tissue on top. I left and told the restaurant receptionist and when leaving 10 minutes later stopped by the bathroom once more that was still in the same state.
Your service and ambiance can be amazing but you can only be as good as your weakest link and keeping a bathroom attended near the bathrooms at all times might be a good idea. Especially in a place that hosts a lot of guest from different cultures that may or may not be familiar with the bathroom customs. I am usually taking a lot of photos but I could not myself to take the camera out... I am certain the Mariposa Team will not mind that a proof photo is showing up on this forum.
I wrote a message for a special request when I reserved a table. When I got there, a staff told me that I had to call if I had a request. I told her that I didn’t see anything to notify me about it and I also didn’t have a phone line because I came here for traveling. Still, I couldn’t get what I requested. I strongly preferred seeing a message if I couldn’t use the message box for writing a request to a restaurant.
Service from our server, Gino, can b improved by having more personal contact with us. Gino was cordial but distant and we would have appreciated it if he had come by after each course is served, 2 check and c how we r doing and if there is anything else we needed.
The busboy was very good and polite in removing our plates upon completion of meal, however, did not follow up enough with more bread nor water. We had 2 request 4 more.
We appreciated the assistant manager or manager (woman) coming by and asking how everything was.
The hostess was very polite and accommodating by allowing us 2 select a table of our choice! She provided us excellent customer service!
I was so very happy with our service and the placement of our table as was requested in my reservation. The Mariposa is my "go to" place for lovely food and atmosphere. Thank you for making my special luncheon a success. We stayed for almost three hours!!!! Our waiter was awesome and the food perfect. Mahalo!
Excellent service, delicious food! We ordered Honey glazed salmon, bone marrow crusted tenderloin and ribeye entrees. Everything was perfectly prepared, moist, tender and flavorful. We ordered three different appetizers, the grilled shrimp, octopus and the beet salad with goat cheese. Everyone commented that the food was excellent! Highly recommended for dinner.
I usually go to Mariposa whenever I'm in the Ala Moana Mall. The food has always been exceptional and the service spectacular. A nice touch is the consomme that's served before the meal and of course, the endless pop overs.
Mariposa is slightly more expensive than other restaurants found in Ala Moana but I think well worth it.
This was supposed to be a celebration dinner for my parents 61st anniversary along with my mothers 84th birthday. It was ruined by a family with an infant who kept wailing the entire time we were there. We have our own children so normally their cries don’t bother us but the constant crying and screaming of the baby and his parents who couldn’t care less about the people around them ruined the dinner. Realize it was not the restaurants fault but still it was an unpleasant experience.
Service was acceptable for a restaurant this level. Food looked and sounded great but they were all too salty, especially the main dishes were disappointing.
A beautiful location overlooking the beach and Alab Moana Park. Too bad the experience left us a bad taste in our minds.
