The cuisine is Latin Inspired, primarily from Chef Dahl’s interactions with chef’s in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. Chef Lisa Dahl and her team focus on premium ingredients and many of the herbs are grown in the herb gardens in the restaurant courtyard. All meats and seafoods come from the very best sources – such as Newport and Beelers for the meats. For years Lisa has insisted on all organic vegetables from Arizona.

Service was exceptional and the food was outstanding. Cannot recommend enough!!
Beautiful restaurant. Food was good. Have had better. Amazing views
This is a well-run restaurant with great ambience. The servers are all experienced professionals, and it's clear that the guest experience matters to them. The wine list is really good - especially the wines by the glass, which is better than most restaurants. The food is thoughtful and delicious. On my plate, there was not a single thing that didn't belong there. We will return to Mariposa any time we are in Sedona.
I live in Sedona and have not been to Mariposa before because of the reviews. Inconsistent. I felt like I was in a hotel banquet hall. No ambiance at all. The corners of the woven placemat was frayed and catching on the fabric of my sweater. The hamburger I had, the Butterfly Burger, which I heard such rave reviews about, was less than average. And I had to pay an extra $4 for changing the side dish - which I was not informed of by the waiter or I would not have changed. My friends salads looked like diner food. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. Three stars is a lot. In truth, it reminds me of the other Dahl restaurants I've been to - all hype and not much substance. Very pricey for the quality and quantity of the meal.I was excited to try the new Butterfly Burger restaurant in the VOC, but after spending $35 on a burger, yuca fries, which the waiter had the indecency to correct my pronunciation over (yuca not yucca), an iced tea and a tip at Mariposa, I will not be doing.
We had a fantastic experience at the Mariposa! We had dinner there and the ambiance was inviting and beautifully illuminated even though it was too dark to see the amazing red rocks.. the food was wonderfully prepared and very plentiful... the halibut special had a wonderful combination of flavors, and the cheesecake was to die for! We will go there again the next time we visit Sedona!
One of the best restaurants I have been to! If you are coming to Sedona you must dine here. Everything we ordered was delicious !
The only thing better than the ambience of this gorgeous restaurant is the food. Seriously delicious.
Lovely dining experience all all around. Efficient, gracious service. I thought the meat and fish preparations were a bit basic, but the appetizers and salads were interesting and I wished I had just made a meal from appetizers. I had the seafood mix with lobster, scallops and shrimp and it was well prepared, generous servings, especially the scallops, but very simple preparations. Would definitely go again. Time your visit to watch the sunset against the hills. They have a shuttle that will drop you at the major hotels in the area which was a nice touch.
Went to Mariposa for 12:45 lunch on a Sunday and it was amazing. Great views of the Red Rocks. Food and drinks were fantastic. Reservations are a must and I recommend going for lunch because the view is much better in daylight!
Celebrating birthday with friends. As a gluten free diner, I didn’t feel like the server/restaurant was very accommodating. There was flour in mashed potatoes and the flourless cake and the strawberries and cream dessert I was served for my birthday had a cookie in it. At the very least, the server could have been thoughtful enough to give me a dessert without gluten. I think that putting flour in mashed potatoes and flourless cake is purposely eliminating food choices for those with a gluten allergy. These are simple accommodations that could be made. Our server, Salvador was friendly and welcoming but just didn’t find it worthwhile to accommodate a gluten free diner.
ABSOLUTELY. The scene was magical, the food was FANTASTIC and we LOVED our server, Sal. Thanks for making it such a special night for us!
Drinks and tapas were excellent. The chopped salad was very good too. Things went downhill with the entrees. I ordered the meat trio. I ordered the filet medium but came well done. The lamb chops were great. My wife ordered the seafood trio but was tabled cold. Too bad. The venue is magnificent. Our waiter didn't seem to be concerned. Hopefully this was an exception to the norm. We loved the pisco sours.
Amazing views and great food!
Ceasar was our waiter ~ Great Job! Hostess greeted us nicely. VIEWS AMAZING, great location!
The Mariposa is fabulous experience. Beautifully decorated, a splendid panoramic view and world class ambiance and food.
This location is breathtaking, the food is wonderful and our entire experience will be remembered long after we return home from our tri
Stunning sunset views and warm service. Food was solid.
Gorgeous views, delicious food. A perfect Sedona experience. Highly recommend.
The restaurant is beautiful, be sure to look at the art and photos. The food was outstanding and the service was great. Don't miss the scallops, the fried avocado and a few empanadas.
We came to Sedona for our honeymoon and we are so happy we decided to dine here. The experience was wonderful and the service and food were exceptional. We absolutely suggest coming here for any special occasion or just a nice meal. The view is spectacular too!
Beautiful vista! Delicious food and wonderful service!! Would highly recommend!!
Food was good, but the service very disappointing. Waiter treated us more like a number than patrons at the restaurant.
Wonderful food , great decor ! Amazing ambience
We came to Mariposa in the evening to celebrate a special event, only to realize the best views are during the daytime. We had trouble seeing the valet attendants, dressed in black, on a dark night with insufficient lighting in the parking area. It would be great if there were some tiny lights suspended under their umbrella to identify where to drop off our car. We were seated promptly at a large, comfortable table but a light by which we could read our menus was nowhere to be found. We had to pull out our phones to read the menu! Our server was polite but did not provide the type of attention we expect from a restaurant like Mariposa. We had to ASK the server for water refills. When our very large tomahawk rib eye steak arrived at the table it was left there by the server. So, once again we had to to request it be carved for us. Didn't the server realize we couldn't possible handle this task at the table? The side dishes and salads were delicious. Our desserts were delivered in a timely fashion (one was complimentary, the other came with our meal). However our two table guests were never asked if they wanted dessert. They were completely ignored.
I’d recommend it only for the few and a cocktail, but we found the service to be poor and unaccommodating. This was surprising given the values presented to us on their website. Too bad.
Lovely ambiance, delicious food, exquisite service. A bit of sticker shock in retrospect.
Excellent food and gorgeous views
Generally, we had an OK experience here. Cocktails and the food were very good. But everything seemed very rushed and hectic. We hadn’t finished our salads and first cocktail and our entrees were already arriving. Pacing is a big deal to me so being rushed with food service didn’t sit well. Getting the waiter’s attention so we could get some wine took way too long. Around us the staff seemed harried. In a good restaurant the staff should be like the proverbial duck - calm on the surface and paddling like hell under. What we experienced was staff people who were rushing like crazy. We saw a busboy flip a dropped napkin up with his foot. Another busboy was scrubbing the placemats like his life depended on it. And there was more. Our experience wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t good. And it wasn’t what we expected.
The views are breathtaking and the food even better!
We arrived about 4:45 third week of November and had a beautiful sunset shortly after. Amazing view, worth the slightly higher prices than other hot spots. Best waitress ever, Dawn! She knew their dishes, wines and was pleasant and attentive! This was a special anniversary, and Mariposa did not disappoint!
Amazing food and drinks, absolutely beautiful view!
Amazing views! I do love the Dahl group! Just a bit over rated but thee views more than compensated! Please check out Cucina Rustica and Dahl and Deluca!
The service was amazing!! Super quick and great food
Stunning views and great service. Don’t miss this Restaurant while you’re in Sedona
Great view, nice patio, our waiter was okay, but got our order wrong, she apologized and gave us a free dessert but still our entrees weren't the best. Great for visiting the area for lunch..
I would recommend based on the views, for sure. I went with a friend. She found her food to be delicious. I enjoyed the sides of my food (although found a long hair in the coleslaw after I'd eaten half of it) and the aioli drenched my mahi mahi burger so heavily that it masked the flavor of the fish. I loved the live music and the views from the patio.
Beautiful setting, excellent food. Service was a little pretentious and the hostess told us it would be a 30 minute wait for the patio. A member of our party mentioned we did have a reservation and was the wait the same and the response from the hostess was "I've got 80 reservations today, you're just one of them and you have to wait along with everyone else." Rude and unfriendly hostess.
We were celebrating a birthday and mentioned that fact to the server, but nothing was offered to the celebrant or us.
Food was excellent. Maybe the menu should be refreshed.
Absolutely phenomenal food and excellent service. The restaurant decor and views were wonderful. Would return in a heartbeat.
