The cuisine is Latin Inspired, primarily from Chef Dahl’s interactions with chef’s in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. Chef Lisa Dahl and her team focus on premium ingredients and many of the herbs are grown in the herb gardens in the restaurant courtyard. All meats and seafoods come from the very best sources – such as Newport and Beelers for the meats. For years Lisa has insisted on all organic vegetables from Arizona.
We are thrilled to offer pick up and return service to our West Sedona restaurants from your accommodations. Our luxury sprinter can handle parties of up to 11.
Outstanding. On every level. One of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had. Expensive, and worth it
Our wait person Dawn was incredible, friendly, helpful, attentive. The filet was perfect as was the salad, the other appetizers were just so so ( empanadas and fried avocado). The views were spectacular as was the general restaurant ambience.
Great ambiance limited reasonably priced wine. Food prep not up to standard. Good service but way over priced for just food ( not great).
I wouldn't recommend to eat but nice place for a cocktail.
Beautiful setting however to fully enjoy the view, come for lunch or an early dinner before the sun sets. The scenic view is just beautiful.
The restaurant and views are spectacular. Todd the GM was gracious and friendly. Our server John was knowledgeable on the food and wine pairings. Met Robin, food and beverage and she was so engaging. Everyone there was so friendly and the food was delicious. My husband had a filet and I the scallops. Highly recommend.
Most excellent and delicious food with a creative flair. The staff that served us made us feel very special. And, to top it off, a panoramic view of the beautiful red rocks. Very special!
We are big fans of Lisa Dahl, and we had a chance to go to her newest restaurant. LOVED IT. Get there before sunset to really enjoy the views. Not a bad seat in the place.
John took amazing care of us. Ty ty ty. (Gabe as well)
Food was impeccable. Drinks amazing. Love the dancers on film wall. Love music.
Filet was very good, but the ribeye was full of gristle and fat. Not very good.
Living in Sedona, this is my go to place for everyday dining whether alone or with friends. I can usually count on great food, fantastic service and stunning ambience. Rarely am I disappointed. However, my most recent experience was not quite the expected. Our waiter was polite, but far from warm and friendly. While the food was outstanding, friendly, engaging service is a major factor in my dining experience. John you missed the mark with us!
Our fourth visit to Mariposa. Outstanding service, excellent food preparation and elegant ambiance. The only negative was we went after sunset and missed out on the beautiful vistas Mariposa offers of the Sedona red rock.
Wonderful atmosphere. Great food. For our family of five it was the most expensive meal we had but if you are willing to drop the cash it's a wonderful place.
Things were going well and off to a great start when we were seated promptly for our reservation. Drinks were good, apps came out timely. Then sadly our waiter must have gotten overwhelmed and disappeared forgetting to clear our appetizers and salad plates or refill our drinks. Our meal then came, a bone in ribeye steak we were sharing since its huge and unfortunately it was not sliced in the kitchen to share, nor was it cooked, totally raw inside which I wouldnt expect from a place of this caliber. Even if it was edible he never came back to check on us or deliver plates for us so overall it was a little disappointing. After finally returning nearly 10 minutes or so with a cold uncooked steak on our table he took it away to finish cooking but didnt so much as bat an eye at the mistake and neglected to take the sides on top of it all. He definitely didnt strike us a rookie but this was a rookie mistake that could have been avoided easily. Bummer.
Yes, it is true that this beautiful restaurant is pricy! But the cuisine is outstanding, from the luscious mushroom appetizer to the main dishes, the side dishes and the gelato. For those who can afford dining like this, believe me, I would be here often. For those of us who want to do something special for an anniversary or birthday, this is the place to save your pennies for!
The food was amazing! This place is beautiful inside and out. I would highly recommend this restaurant for couples looking for a romantic evening.
The food was great and Victoria was an attentive server. However, the texture of the churros could have been better (more cooked), but not a huge deal. Will definitely return during our next trip to Sedona.
Everything was great except waitress forgot our appetizer.
After all the hype, we were very underwhelmed by Mariposa. Food was fine but not spectacular by any means. The waiter and bartender were completely mechanical and lazy in terms of engaging with us on drinks and food. No reason to return.
Loved everything about this place! Not one bad thing, we will be returning.
Excellent! This was the second visit to Mariposa. One again, exceptional food and service. Highly recommended!
Amazing food in an incredible setting. Flavors of each dish were perfect and paired well with our wine choices.
Excellent food and cocktail menu. Always great tapas!
Great ambiance and service, highly over-rated food. I only recommend this place for sunset drinks.
We were disappointed. We visit Sedona regularly and our hot air balloon pilot recommended this place. We made a reservation as a result. The view and ambiance were incredible. Everything else was just okay. The octopus appetizer and steaks were charred, overcooked, and simply not prepared as ordered. Although we could have complained and sent everything back, it wasn't worth our time. The owner and manager were in house making their rounds to neighboring tables, yet never stopped by to inquire about feedback from our experience. They were clearly schmoozing with the locals. I surmise the business plan is to cajole the locals to return whilst ignoring tourists since they are mere passers by. This makes sense from a financial standpoint and I totally understand and don't disagree with this business strategy. However, during our multiple visits to Sedona, we have dined at several highly successful restaurants that provide incredible food and service for happy tourists while still drawing a solid local following. We shall revisit those establishments the next time we vacation in Sedona.
Our family of 5 found Mariposa to be the most incredible dining experience after a rigorous day of hiking in Sedona. We were seated at the corner window so we could take in the 180 degree bright red rock views, as the sun was setting. Our waiter, Arturo, as well as all of the staff, was so pleasant and attentive. The atmosphere is really cool, easy to relax in, and have conversation, great music too. The acoustics are perfect. The food is so delicious, amazing options for us vegetarians. The desserts were divine. We stayed for 2 hours! We would love to return again.
Very well run restaurant. The service was perfect with many people clearing plates, replacing utensils, etc. You really can’t beat the ambiance and that adds to the enjoyment of the meal. Food was all very good and presented beautifully. Make reservations early because they fill quickly.
The food was very good, the service (of the server, in particular) was off, then we spoke to the manager and she was appreciative for the feedback and did what she could at the time to address the error of the server. The service in the bar as we waited was great, as were the hostesses.
I would imagine our experience was an isolated incident or specific to that particular server. The owner was at the restaurant for a period of time looking in on the room, and the manager was very in tune with our feedback. Also - the food *really* was good and in looking at many of the other servers in the room - they seemed to be attentive to each of their tables.
Mariposa is definitely a must when visiting Sedona! You have to try the empanadas, they were delicious! My husband and I sort of did a “family style” meal complete with empanadas, Lisa’s chopped salad, and a meat trio. We also sprung for the lobster mashed potatoes which did not disappoint! We still had leftovers! Portions are generous and the food is very good quality. The service is not rushed ,which we appreciate! Only complaint was that our filet was not cooked to what we had ordered but it was still delicious and we ate it anyway! Definitely make reservations!
I wanted to like this restaurant. But, I was immediately disenchanted upon seeing a reserved spot for Lisa Dahl, the owner, I believe, at the front of the restaurant. Why wouldn't she want her customers the best parking spot? Because, she is obviously self-centered. Why do I say that?
When you sit in the bar while awaiting a table for a dinner destined to be a disaster, you are overcome by continuous-loop videos of Lisa engaging local South Americans. The videos are, I must assume, tributes to her culinary prowess. However, that skill loses something in translation.
We were seated at a table that wasn't ready for diners. There was no silverware. There were no napkins. However, there was food from the previous patrons. That was very appealing....
My wife and I ordered the prawns to start. Delivered in a 'cold swill' of mayo and ketchup, I felt like the dish was a loser from some episode of Chopped Junior. Then, for the main course, we split the bone-in ribeye which we ordered medium. It came thoroughly uncooked....rare at best. The sides? Cold, too. Cauliflower with taste-less chimichurri and mashed potatoes with almonds, I believe. I think I saw a sliver of one almond. I sent the steak back, but again, it was returned rare with blood still streaming from it. We didn't finish our meal and immediately left after paying.
Not only were the sides cold but so were the plates on which the ill-prepared food was delivered. The only thing colder than the meal was the reception we received upon entering the restaurant. We had reservations. I announced our arrival to one receptionist. She asked that I tell another receptionist that we arrived. Due to the extreme loudness and background noise, I stepped around the reception desk so the second receptionist could hear me. I was met with her raising her hands up as if I were attacking her, and she said, "please get back." I don't ever recall being so poorly treated.
Great restaurant. We were a party of four and everyone had something different, and it was all delicious. The views are stunning.
Mariposa is a beautiful restaurant with excellent food, service, and ambience!
It was a spectacularly beautiful space. The food was excellent, except for the vegetarian nirvana. Way too much cheese. It tasted like any vegetarian burrito at a meh Mexican restaurant and it was barely warm. The awfulness of the dish was a surprise given how wonderful all of the small plates were.
X-mas dinner did not disappoint❣️Sooooo glad to have booked this reservation months ahead as we would have missed this gem. Tried to book another res & earliest available was 2 weeks out!!
Decided on several apps vs prix fixed Xmas menu: Elote Loco (grilled corn with chimichurri & cotija), grilled asparagus, Hokkaido scallops, lemon mashed potatoes w/ lobster scampi, aguacate frito (deep fried avocado bites). All good though we could have done away with the mashed potatoes not because of the taste but because we were soooo full - we wound up eating only 1/4 of it!
Giuliano, our wait staff, was most attentive & gracious.
Thank you, owner/chef Lisa Dahl. Your work is obviously inspired and a touching, proud tribute to your son💝
Had Christmas dinner at Mariposa. The entire experience from the valet to the scenic beauty of the location to Lisa Dahl’s amazing cuisine made this a Christmas to remember. We will return next time we are in Sedona.
We first discovered Mariposa in April of 2018, and loved it! Once we knew we would be in Sedona for Christmas, we made sure to book reservations (Christmas Eve & Christmas Day). On our next visit, we will visit again, I'm sure!
Beautiful restaurant in a wonderful red rocks setting. Our waiter was initially charming and attentive until after we got our drinks and the food was ordered. We really never saw him after that. Our food looked wonderful and tasted cooked (seafood trio) BUT it was luke warm at most. No one ever came to ask how it was and since it was late and not wanting to wait another 30 mins for food we ate it but at the price we should have said something. Salad was excellent. Everything was a la carte so extra sides we ordered we also luke warm and pricey. We think the food was cooked but sat until someone decided to bring it to us which was not our waiter. I would return just to give this beautiful restaurant another try and hope for better service.
Really excellent place for Christmas Eve. Food and service were outstanding.
Great for Christmas dinner
