Mariposa (Deer Valley Resort) Ratings and Reviews
We always enjoy dining here and we took advantage of a limited time only special. As always the food and service was excellent. The regular menu is pricey, but you get what you pay for and it’s great for special occasions for treating yourself. Presentation and eating something different from run of the mill menus, is a big draw as well.
The service at Mariposa was absolutely wonderful. They had all the wonderful structure for a 5 star restaurant while maintaining the friendly warmth of a Park City vibe. Our server was friendly without being casual and formal without being stuffy. He gave us wonderful recommendations for a delicious bottle of wine. We also really loved all of the small complimentary tastings from the chef through the evening that were pleasant from an experience standpoint and very delicious as well. I love that that use a lot of local and farm fresh ingredients without needing to tout it as part of the story. Robust wine selection. Ambiance inside was absolutely beautiful and cozy. They were very smart about not seating people right next to each other so it felt very private.
We had the lobster bisque, bison filet, and their prie fixe tasting special at the time which consisted of their: tomato tart, mushroom beggar's purse, short rib, and a desert called creme de la creme. The Bisque was very balance and yummy. The bison cooked perfectly. The tomato tart which was probably my favorite course was so fresh, luscious, and delicious. The beggar's purse is good if you can handle game-y flavor because the mushrooms were all wild mushrooms and you could very much taste that. The short rib was melt in your mouth and good but I do wish it had more flavor injected in it to bring out the rich savory melt that happens with a truly wonderful short rib. The creme de la creme was a beautiful take on a cheesecake of sorts but so much more elevated beyond that. I absolutely loved it and could easily eat that over and over again which is truly the point of a dessert. Overall we really enjoyed our experience and could see ourselves returning on special occasions to dine with them.
The Mariposa is one of my all time favorite restaurants and it never fails to disappoint. It is located at the Silver Lake Lodge at Deer Valley and is only open during ski season. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the food is divine. The Maine lobster chowder is the best I have ever tasted. My husband and I order it every time we go and contemplate getting a second round for dessert. The Mariposa is undoubtedly one of the top restaurants in Utah!
Portions are meant to be small plates, but 2 is more than enough per person (they suggest 4 to 5). Pricey, and although nice tasting, it wasn't the best, but cost more than almost any other restaurant you will try.
A notable item. No corkage fee on first bottle. Since they upcharge about 300% on their wines. It is a nice wine list.
We totally enjoyed our evening at the Mariposa. The food was wonderful. Our server, Danny, paced our meal perfectly. He was attentive but not intrusive. Austin kept our water glasses full. The lobster chowder was to die for - was tempted to lick the bowl...we really enjoyed our seared bison filet and the lamb chops! Yummy!
We have visited Deer Valley for the past 17 years and have never dined at the Mariposa until this week. We chose the Mariposa for a romantic dinner for two (which it was) and loved the service and ambiance. It is designed as a small tasting menu and the choices were incredible. In saying that, however, small tastings were (to us) very small and not really large enough to share. The oysters and the lobster chowder were phenomenal, as was the bison and the quail. Our desserts (cheesecake and chocolate cake) were fabulous too. I hate to say it, but after a $250 bill (including tip), we were still hungry when we left. For us, this was a one and done, but we are still glad we tried it.
With over 100 independent restaurants in the Park City community we obviously have a lot of culinary options, and a lot of fabulous options. Mariposa has now become our favorite restaurant. It's a joy to take many of our visiting guests to enjoy the ambiance, service and AMAZING food and presentations. The small plates create an opportunity to experience more of the delightful dishes that are offered. You won't be disappointed, you will be delighted!
This restaurant was recommended by a friend, I did not realize until the waiter came that it was a "tasting" menu. You will need to order around at least 3-4 plates per person. My 10 year old liked the tenderloin but my son only ate bread. Definitely do not recommend for kids!!! Other than that, the service was impeccable and the food was amazing!
Lovely ambiance sets the mood for a quiet romantic evening. We shared several small plates and enjoyed the accompanying wine pairings. Our taste buds savoured the perfectly prepared scallops and greens with a smidge of risotto. The final plate was mouthwatering quail. Would definitely recommend.
Prompt seating. Excellent wait staff with good appreciation for the menu and wine pairing. Nice, but cozy, with fireplace and Austrian-style Gasthaus atmosphere. Really good food, with a nice, varied menu. I'm a local, and this is one of the best places for a special occasion.
I can't say the food was bad but it was wildly overpriced. It's a small dish menu - 3 dishes per person. The quality of the ingredients was fine, but the execution of the dishes was underwhelming.
If you decide to go, I strongly recommend the lamb chaps. That one dish was elite.
When I first made the reservation I was a little surprised that one of the nicest, if not the nicest, restaurant in Utah had such affordable menu prices. When I arrived to the Mariposa and was waiting to be seated, I took a look at the menu and discovered that this was a different kind of restaurant. This was a dining/tasting experience and that each plate on the menu was very small and you were supposed to order as many as 8-10 small plates per couple. That's when I realized the final bill would be significant. We got seated and ordered 6 of the plates to start and figured if we needed more we would order them later. A very nice bread basket came out first along with the first course. They clean your table and take your plates and silverware after each plate. We would simply keep the small plate in the center and share each one. The food was amazing and delicious and the pacing was perfect. After eating bread and each course, by the end of 6 plates we were full enough. We did end with the buffalo which was melt in your mouth amazing. After al the food courses we did order one of the chocolate desserts to share and it was also amazing and a good way to end the meal. It was a fun experience and I was pleasantly surprised that I left the Mariposa with a bill for under $200. I think if you followed their wine options with each course you could expect to pay way more. But we had water and that was free. Great experience for a special occasion.
At first they sat us on the third level and the noise was outrageous. Do not let them sit you there with a party of two. The accoustics in the room are terrible. Once they found a new table on the middle level we had a wonderful and romantic evening with terrific food.
I took my girlfriend for our 3 year anniversary. The food was phenomenal and the service was even better! Given it was super pricy it was a nice special occasion date! If I could afford it I would go every night. Make sure you try the bison filet and any of the desserts!
Worst place ever. Went for my husband's birthday and not only did they not make it special for him, they made us feel as though we were inconveniencing THEM. We were initially sat in a very crowded area with lots of couples, but when the fireplace started to ash in our drinks, we asked to move. And because we had ash in our drinks, we asked for a new one, just one, mind you. I know right, we're the jerks. So even though I called to confirm that they knew we were celebrating my husband's bday we didn't even get so much as a happy birthday from them. From the coat check to the servers and bus boys, this was the worst place we have been to in a long time. And I've eaten at a Chili's recently. Don't go here if you value service or food quality.
Wow! I am not a "foodie" but this place was great from start to finish.
Our waiter, Adam, was very patient as we took awhile deciding what to order.
I also liked the wine tasting paired with each course in that it was served as half-pour rather than full glass.
The food and food wait staff at the Mariposa never fail to deliver a great dinner. However, it is always frustrating when a restaurant advertises a wine of a specific vintage in their wine list but the sommelier arrives at the table with a different vintage. However, the most frustrating issue is that the sommelier does not mention the substitution but rather begins to open the bottle. Only when the difference is pointed out to him does he feign ignorance and states that he will return to the wine cellar to get the correct vintage. When he returns with the improper vintage he attempts to blame the error on the "supplier". Further he announces that the improper vintage is the last bottle of Brunello that he has in the restaurant. Clearly, we are not the first customer to be served the wrong vintage. When a guest is prepared to spend over $100 for a bottle of wine, or in this case for more than one bottle of wine, one should expect the bottle that is on the wine list, or at the very least acknowledgment from the sommelier that he has brought a different vintage to the table. And, when the sommelier compounds the problem by attempting to blame the error on the supplier, it makes the Mariposa look shoddy. I expect more professional service from a restaurant such as the Mariposa.
