Mariposa (Deer Valley Resort) Ratings and Reviews
Creative presentation, and flawless taste (in setting, wine, and cuisine). My husband enjoyed the tasting menu with wine pairings, while I savored the lobster bisque, and scallops. What a special place, with a professionally attentive and knowledgeable team. Thank you.
Mariposa was delicious, beautiful and the service was perfect. I can't say anything bad about it but it wasn't very interesting. The food was all prepared wonderfully - I had the tomato tart to begin and the bison steak for my main course with sweet potato and sauteed chard on the side. Both were good but felt like I could have had the same thing at many other restaurants. My husband ordered a little more adventurously but he felt the same about his meal. Good but nothing stood out. We did receive help choosing a wonderful wine and although we were too full for dessert, we were given an "intermezzo" sized dessert which was perfect.
We've been wanting to try Mairiposa for a long time and just finally got around to it. it did not disappoint! The food was spectacular and the decor was what you'd expect for a high end Deer Valley Mountain restaurant. We were surprised when we were given a regular dinner knife prior to our buffalo steak orders arriving but soon realized they were so tender you probably could have cut them with your fork! incredible food and worth the trip into upper DV (even if you are staying out of town or somewhere else in PC) . It was very vibrant and hard to have a quiet conversation but that may have been where we were sitting. Definitely a restaurant to put on your list if you are coming to PC and I would give it an A+ overall.
Nice meal- for a tasting menu the main course was still quiet large, I had the halibut. After having two starting dishes as recommended i was full and couldn’t make it to dessert. Appetizers were not as creative as I’d imagined they would be, but overall decent meal. Service was nice, decor left something to be desired. Would go again, but wouldn’t be at the top of my list when visiting Deer Valley.
We were sat in the top left back corner where there was a very cold draft. With no blankets or sweaters on hand. At our entering the host was very strange with the way we were managed. She told us our table would be ready but that we were early. We all looked at each other like why did she need to even say that. Like do what. The next guest there was a mistake in last name and they had the wrong time. The host was very unapologetic by any stretch. Then we were not sat at our reservation time but almost 15 minutes after. Not what we expected considering we would be charged 50 cancel for each guest. Our waiter was even stranger. We said it was so cold where we sat and he said oh I am not sure I have been serving downstairs all night. Really .... who cares. He should’ve said yes ma’am let me check on that for you. Then later proceeded to tell us how he was a restaurant owner in Bahamas and how he came back abd the restaurant wanted him so bad but he was not into being a manager and he was just waiting for recovery in Bahamas. We thought how crazy is this place selling as upscale when we have not seen one bit of classiness. The food was good enough but for the price and the upscale atmosphere we were looking for it didn’t satisfied and we will not be back on our next trip.
We visited Mariposa for a combined New Year's Eve and daughter's 18th birthday celebration. They had two tasting menus to chose from that night, offering a vegan choice that my daughter opted for. The food and ambiance were both excellent for this kind of special occasion. The dishes were all very creative and wonderfully prepared. I also enjoyed the wine pairing which included well selected choices of some unique wines I would not have normally ordered off the wine list. The mountain lodge decor was very nice, recognizing this restaurant is situated within a well established ski resort lodge. I plan to return with just my wife for a more romantic dinner in one of my future visits to Deer Valley.
Mariposa was outstanding. The food was wonderful. While there was a chef’s tasting menu that I almost chose, our waiter explained that he could also pair wines with the various courses. We all loved the gruyere soufflé. The bison was amazing for a main course and the wine pairings were exceptional. Our servers were knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. It was perfect for Christmas away from home.
Excellent food and excellent service. Creative menu with great flavors. This is truly a high end restaurant that fits Deer Valley and the food quality it’s known for. Everything was prepared well. Scallops were perfectly seared and the bison filet was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Flawless execution on all the dishes we ordered.
Will definitely be back.
We always enjoy dining here and we took advantage of a limited time only special. As always the food and service was excellent. The regular menu is pricey, but you get what you pay for and it’s great for special occasions for treating yourself. Presentation and eating something different from run of the mill menus, is a big draw as well.
The service at Mariposa was absolutely wonderful. They had all the wonderful structure for a 5 star restaurant while maintaining the friendly warmth of a Park City vibe. Our server was friendly without being casual and formal without being stuffy. He gave us wonderful recommendations for a delicious bottle of wine. We also really loved all of the small complimentary tastings from the chef through the evening that were pleasant from an experience standpoint and very delicious as well. I love that that use a lot of local and farm fresh ingredients without needing to tout it as part of the story. Robust wine selection. Ambiance inside was absolutely beautiful and cozy. They were very smart about not seating people right next to each other so it felt very private.
We had the lobster bisque, bison filet, and their prie fixe tasting special at the time which consisted of their: tomato tart, mushroom beggar's purse, short rib, and a desert called creme de la creme. The Bisque was very balance and yummy. The bison cooked perfectly. The tomato tart which was probably my favorite course was so fresh, luscious, and delicious. The beggar's purse is good if you can handle game-y flavor because the mushrooms were all wild mushrooms and you could very much taste that. The short rib was melt in your mouth and good but I do wish it had more flavor injected in it to bring out the rich savory melt that happens with a truly wonderful short rib. The creme de la creme was a beautiful take on a cheesecake of sorts but so much more elevated beyond that. I absolutely loved it and could easily eat that over and over again which is truly the point of a dessert. Overall we really enjoyed our experience and could see ourselves returning on special occasions to dine with them.
The Mariposa is one of my all time favorite restaurants and it never fails to disappoint. It is located at the Silver Lake Lodge at Deer Valley and is only open during ski season. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the food is divine. The Maine lobster chowder is the best I have ever tasted. My husband and I order it every time we go and contemplate getting a second round for dessert. The Mariposa is undoubtedly one of the top restaurants in Utah!
Portions are meant to be small plates, but 2 is more than enough per person (they suggest 4 to 5). Pricey, and although nice tasting, it wasn't the best, but cost more than almost any other restaurant you will try.
A notable item. No corkage fee on first bottle. Since they upcharge about 300% on their wines. It is a nice wine list.
We totally enjoyed our evening at the Mariposa. The food was wonderful. Our server, Danny, paced our meal perfectly. He was attentive but not intrusive. Austin kept our water glasses full. The lobster chowder was to die for - was tempted to lick the bowl...we really enjoyed our seared bison filet and the lamb chops! Yummy!
We have visited Deer Valley for the past 17 years and have never dined at the Mariposa until this week. We chose the Mariposa for a romantic dinner for two (which it was) and loved the service and ambiance. It is designed as a small tasting menu and the choices were incredible. In saying that, however, small tastings were (to us) very small and not really large enough to share. The oysters and the lobster chowder were phenomenal, as was the bison and the quail. Our desserts (cheesecake and chocolate cake) were fabulous too. I hate to say it, but after a $250 bill (including tip), we were still hungry when we left. For us, this was a one and done, but we are still glad we tried it.
With over 100 independent restaurants in the Park City community we obviously have a lot of culinary options, and a lot of fabulous options. Mariposa has now become our favorite restaurant. It's a joy to take many of our visiting guests to enjoy the ambiance, service and AMAZING food and presentations. The small plates create an opportunity to experience more of the delightful dishes that are offered. You won't be disappointed, you will be delighted!
This restaurant was recommended by a friend, I did not realize until the waiter came that it was a "tasting" menu. You will need to order around at least 3-4 plates per person. My 10 year old liked the tenderloin but my son only ate bread. Definitely do not recommend for kids!!! Other than that, the service was impeccable and the food was amazing!
Lovely ambiance sets the mood for a quiet romantic evening. We shared several small plates and enjoyed the accompanying wine pairings. Our taste buds savoured the perfectly prepared scallops and greens with a smidge of risotto. The final plate was mouthwatering quail. Would definitely recommend.
