This place is slipping. The food was mediocre and the service was slow. Maybe they were just too busy for the staff that was working. I’ve eaten here many times in the last several years and had good to great experiences. I think it is time to take it off my must go list when in Park City / Deer Valley
We sincerely apologize that your experience was not a good one. Please be assured that your feedback has been shared with our management team as we do take guest input to heart. And, we hope you will choose to remain a loyal and greatly valued guest now and in the future.
We’ve been coming here during the ski season for years. The food, depending on what you order, is either great or so so. For the price it lacks consistency.
Terrible service - good food. Did not like cafeteria style downstairs. Was expecting a classier place. Was there for a special occasion... disappointed
Thank you very much for making us aware of your experience at The Mariposa. We apologize that your experience did not meet your expectations. We have passed your comments on to Deer Valley's management team, the Director of Food and Beverage, and the staff at the Mariposa. As you know, we try to offer a guest service experience that goes above and beyond guest expectations and without feedback like yours we cannot improve upon these situations. Thank you again for sharing.
Sorry to see Mariposa become corporate!
we have been frequent diner that Mariposa for many years on our trips to Deer Valley. It used to be the highlight of our dining experience. Unfortunately that is no longer the case. Once run by a family and a chef who truly knew how to make guests feel Like they enjoyed an extraordinary taste experience, it is now owned by a corporate entity and it's all about big portions, big prices and much bland are flavors. The paired wine menu with food is now gone. service is still fantastic as is the ambiance but Mariposa now has stiff competition from high-quality restaurant in Park City with better flavor profiles.
it was really sad for us to see what happened to one of our favorite Deer Valley treasures
Out server John was exceptional, the perfect mix of attentive without being overbearing
Our second visit as we were here a year ago and enjoyed our experience immensely. We looked forward to it all year and we were not disappointed at all. Food and service are top drawer. Highly recommend.
This has been a favorite for years. What a weird disappointment.
First, we were taken upstairs to a 3rd floor where, for most of the evening, we were alone in the room. We all know what that means. The staff tends to forget you’re there.
Then, a wasp began flying around our table, and landed in our daughter’s hair. Of course, there was zero staff on the third floor to ask for help.
All four of us leapt up to help her get the wasp out of her hair, and kill the wasp. While we were doing this, they appeared with our food. We didn’t have much of an appetite at that point. We finally asked the waiter if there wasn’t a concerned manager somewhere. She eventually showed, and offered to comp our daughter’s meal. At no time did anyone apologize, or seem surprised or concerned.
Just a weird, weird - and yet very expensive - evening. Will never return.
Very upscale place. Food and service very good. Would definitely return next time in park city
Wonderful service and great food
After arriving at 6:28 for our 6:30 reservation we were told to wait while the (presumably very rich) people that came in after us were seated. Other than this rude behavior everything was great. PC Main Street is more fun but the food was excellent.
Paid the $120 for the Wagu sirloin. Although it was cooked perfectly, there was lots of sinew that could not be cut through. Only able to eat less than a fourth of the steak. Not happy.
We would like to apologize for your recent experience with us at The Mariposa. We're sorry to hear you were less than satisfied with your meal. We pride ourselves on our cuisine, and the high quality standards we maintain. This is not a typical experience in our restaurant. We would like to make things right. Please expect a message from me, to discuss what occurred and how we might make it up to you. Sincerely, Josh Hockman The Mariposa Restaurant Manager
UNFORGETTABLE!! My husband and I are taking this year to celebrate our 30 year marriage. We decided this would be our celebration meal for our long weekend trip and we were not disappointed! Julia, our server and fellow southerner, was attentive and charming. We had the oysters on the half shell and the ahi tuna on avocado toast as appetizers. DELICIOUS! We shared the Elk, Mushroom pasta as our entree. It was not a huge portion but certainly enough for us. The two sauces were rich and soooo tasty! For desert, we shared the Creme de la Creme. We had heard that we should get the Snowball but I don't think you can go wrong, either way.
The wine and cocktails were perfect! Not a run of the mill meal, for sure!
Superb food delivered in a friendly, efficient manner. Love this place!
Dined at Mariposa several times in the past 10 years, although it has changed over time we have always enjoyed the experience and recommended to friends.
This time was different - our server was not very attentive, tried to up-sell constantly & to top it off was obviously annoyed when we asked for the Ikon pass discount (tab w/ tip was over $500 for 2)
Will not return
Went here for Valentine’s Day on my girlfriend’s first trip to Park City. They gave us a special one sided booth in the corner that was intimate and romantic. Everything was perfect, even down to the smallest detail of a red rose on the table. The food was absolutely INCREDIBLE. The wait staff was kind and attentive, and patient while we were in awe of the special atmosphere they had created for us. They had a special Valentine’s prix fixe menu that looked incredible. We instead chose to use their normal menu—the mushroom beggars purse might be the best thing I’ve ever eaten. And their signature bison filet was mouth wateringly delicious. The avocado/ahi toast was excellent and unique, and the chicken was amazing.
The staff at Mariposa created such a wonderful experience for our Valentine’s Day; we cant say thank you enough! It was so special and romantic and relaxing, it’s going to be hard to top!
Can’t wait to come back here!
Some things are just constant, outstanding meal, great service, and a fun evening!
This is one of my favorite restaurants. We have been coming for over 20 years and have never had a dish we didn’t love. The menu is interesting and features locally grown ingredients prepared in innovative ways. The lobster chowder is so fabulous (if you ask for it without potatoes) that I once ordered it for 2 of my 3 courses. Great for date nights and special occasions.
We tried the Local ‘Tasting’ menu - thinking it might be interesting to experience the Mariposa. I generally love the food at Deer Valley, and figured it would be interesting. The location is a back room off the ski lodge area - and while the room is quite ok - and certainly quiet - to use the bathroom you must go thru the deserted ski lodge and down stairs. This makes for a distracting experience to say the least. The dinner itself was not a ‘tasting’ menu - it was a 3 course meal. There was a choice of two appetizers and two main courses plus dessert. They also included an amuse to start the meal, and a tiny bite of another dessert to end it. The salad was outstanding - the main course acceptable, but nothing to write home about. The dessert was frankly disappointing. Overall - I’m giving them 4 stars for the attempt, but I wouldn’t go back soon.
the mariposa is back where it belongs :the best restaurant in all of utah
excellent new chef great same service
Food was spectacular. Service attentive and knowledge. Food moderately expensive but extremely well prepared. $20 corkage fee allowed me to bring a great Joseph Phelps. Still tapped marvelous wine list as well.
Food was amazing and our waiter John was awesome. You won’t be disappointed
Best food in the area with attentive but not intrusive staff.
Guys that bring out food - awkward and not experienced
Lovely meal, fantastic service.
I was delightfully treated to a bevy of tastes designed to make me want to return. My wife and I were celebrating our 41st Anniversary and decided to see why our daughter recommended the Mariposa to us as worthy of our celebration of a great relationship and marriage. We, very much, appreciated the extra attention, service and attention to detail that went into every aspect of this experience. The staff took good care of us, and planted a seed for us to return.
Wonderful experience! The waiter was exceptional and we tried all his suggestions. First time to have bison and it was outstanding. Wonderful evening!!
Fabulous. Noisy diners were a distraction but not the restaurant’s fault
One of the best restaurants in Park City, Utah. Great venue and staff.
Staff was very accomidating. oved the food, quite ambiance which what we were looking for on special evening
We had dinner as a family at Mariposa on our last night in Deer Valley and loved the cosy lodge ambience. Unfortunately the food and service didn’t live up to the promise of the Zagat rating. Our request for a mocktail was met with a “sorry what is that?”. The bison tartare tasted cooked. When we asked the waiter about it, his first response was “no, tartare is raw”. The second time, he conceded that it had had a little “sous vide”. This should have been disclosed on the menu. The dry aged steak was delicious and well cooked but the sauce spoiled it and should have been on the side. We were up sold the fresh truffle addition to our pasta at $40 per head. We wish we’d checked first on the freshness as it was very difficult to discern the flavour. On dessert, we went for the chocolate taster, expecting a variety of chocolate items on a plate - it turned out to be a small chocolate bar. Disappointing end to our wonderful Deer Valley holiday.
Father daughter skiing dinner weekend.
Great service, but it is a horrible value. $25 for a glass of wine. $47 for basic pork chops with no sides. It’s hard to walk out of there with spending less than $100 per person. If the cuisine was unique, then its worth it. However, the food is average.
High priced, average experience. Not a great combo.
Ushered to the third floor. Hot and noisy. Had a terrible table in the corner facing the wall. Waiter opened wine we brought. We were four. Only 3 having wine. Never asked the 4 th if he would like a beverage. Rushed us to order. We inquired about the elk. He felt it necessary to tell us that he had recently killed one with a bow and arrow. Lost my appetite! No one enjoyed their entree. Either too salty or completely bland. Poor quality food for high quality prices. We have always enjoyed dining here. It is now a different restaurant. We will not return
excellent service, great wine list, good for special occasion
Might have been an off night. We have been there many times before and had excellent meals. I waitress told us the chef was dining with investors at the table behind ours. Whoever was cooking the food was not up to previous high standards.
My wife’s meal was too rare and we sent it back, it took over 20 minutes to get another meal. I had to motion for the wait staff to tell them to meal was unacceptable. The manager did comp the whole meal. This was my favorite restaurant in Park City, I will have to really contemplate going there again. It’s unfortunate.
The food was beautifully presented and wonderfully delicious. The ingredient combos were interesting and worked very well.
Amazing dinner and service
By NYC standards, this was a step up from The Smith. It was good, but we had hoped for more.
