Mariposa at Neiman Marcus - San Antonio Ratings and Reviews
The chef's attention to detail was very special. He personally approached us and wanted to make sure everything was what we wanted. He engaged in conversation making it very personable. Our waitress was amazing as well. High standards and quality of food was very good. Soup was at a perfect temperature which is a problem at many other restaurants. We were also able to have time to chat and never felt rushed. Very relaxing and great food!
This was our first time at Mariposa. We were disappointed by the service and the food. We had a reservation on a Sunday afternoon and it was not busy, but it took over 30 minutes to get our food. Unfortunately my food was completely cold. I did mention it to the waitress and the manager took it off the bill, but I was still hungry by the time I left because the cold food was uneatable.
Took my mother here for her 51st birthday. Super disappointing. For the price the food was just okay. I had the milanese which I would rate a 7/10... nothing bad and nothing great about it. My mother got a salad with shrimp and didn't finish it but she's too polite to say anything negative when someone is treating her to a meal. Mimosas were $11 and you could tell they used cheap champagne and not good prosecco. If they did use prosecco then my apologies but they just weren't great mimosas. And $11 for a mimosa that is 3 ounces of wine it better be freshly squeezed orange juice and good prosecco. Our waiter took forever to do anything and rarely checked on us. The suffle style complimentary roll and chicken broth were my favorite part of the meal. I told the hostess in private I wanted to surprise my mom with a piece of cake at the end of our meal and if she could relay the message (I didn't this because I couldn't find out waiter). I don't know if he forgot or just didn't care but after we finished our meal (10 minutes go by just sitting there waiting for him to come by) he comes and asks if "we have room for dessert" and then I guess he remembered and saw that he spoiled the surprise and stuttered and said "we actually give complimentary birthday desserts". So they did give us a complimentary dessert for her birthday, however, it took him over 20 minutes to get it to us. We got peach cobbler and it was good. For 4 people the bill was over $200 with no appetizers and 6 mimosas. Not worth it, go somewhere else.
I was very disappointed with Mariposa because they canceled restaurant week after I made my reservation and they would not honor the price difference. I feel like since they had it on restaurant week to begin with and I made my reservations with that in mind they should have comped my meal or they should have at least made arrangements for me to get it at the price that was listed on restaurant week.
Great service , the bourbon cocktail was amazing for a non bourbon drinker like myself . The food was good, not great. The salads seem to hit the spot for me , the plates have been ok . Maybe when I try different plates my opinion might change . Have not had the sandwiches either so I need more visits to comment on food.
Three of us go to Mariposa at Neiman Marcus - San Antonio about once a month and really enjoy it. I particularly enjoyed my meal yesterday and it wasn't even on the menu! We saw a "special" that someone ordered and it looked wonderful, but since I don't eat meat I was able to substitute seared ahi tuna and delete another item. It was perfect!!! It's fantastic that Mariposa staff allows us to make special requests and changes to what's on the menu.
My hubby and I spent Valentine's Day dinner here.
Dinner was wonderful. Both the rack of lamb and chicken were excellent. The triple layer chocolate cake for desert was amazing. My hubby was talking about going back before we even left. It was that good.
So disappointing, but mostly in the food.
The special soup was French onion - which I ordered . It looked like an amateur version and tasted so weak. Both my friends ordered the Chicken - they barely ate this odd assembled dish .
Over priced for the quality of food, and very disappointing in all respects.
I had booked a table and they tried to seat us at the 1st ,hectic table near the entrance which was way too large for a group of 3 women. The only other table they had was on the terrace - at the far back where getting wait service seemed difficult.
I would hope that diners who book through Open Table would be given better preference in location of table ......we should since most of us are frequent diners and travelers with discriminating tastes.
I never complain ,but this time I need to speak up.
This is a traditional meeting spot for us ,and I have found the food to be hit or miss.
Please get a better chef - we need this place to succeed - San Antonio deserves it . As locals , we will try it again ,but not for a few months.
The noise level made it very hard to have conversation. This was due to three tables of families w small children, as well as two tables of women laughing and speaking loudly. I wish Mariposa would place tables w children all in one area, rather than throughout the restaurant space. Sadly, this restaurant no longer holds the same dignified atmosphere Neiman's was once known for. It feels as though it's now an overpriced everyday, run-of-the-mill eatery.
The chicken melt sandwich was sort of bland, and some of the chips were a bit soggy, but I did really like the chips overall. They brought out complementary bread and strawberry butter that was reallyyyyy good, but also a small cup of chicken broth (?!?) for some reason.
