Mariposa at Neiman Marcus - Michigan Avenue Ratings and Reviews
Mariposa never fails. It has a lovely variety of salads and entrees. The dining Room is very comfortable, tables are nicely spaced, conversations are at a reasonable level, and the service is attentive. The popovers are perfect and a nice little indulgence.
This is a very nice restaurant for lunch located on the 4th floor of the Neiman Marcus department store. Service was very good and food was also good. My only minor complaint was the turkey in the Roast Turkey Sandwich was cold. I was expecting it to be warm based on the description. The bread and sweet potato fries were delicious and made up for the cold turkey.
We have a soft spot for Neiman Marcus restaurants, as long-time fans of their popovers with strawberry butter. Years ago, the food at some of their restaurant locations was excellent, such as at the Dallas location under former Chef Sharon Hage. But these days, from New Jersey to Chicago and beyond, the food is typically mediocre at best -- perhaps a reflection of the challenging retail environment...or perhaps even a cause of it? If NM shows it cares so little about the cuisine at its restaurants, how much can it really care that its retail chain thrives? The once-classic popover is now a shapeless blob, though the flavor and texture are still pretty good....Our soft spot is so soft that we may keep returning on occasion to see if the food's any better, but these days we eat our memories here more so than what's on the plate, so we wouldn't dream of recommending it to a serious food lover.
Lovely restaurant in a wonderful city on a special day. Excellent service and was treated to a #yummy pumpkin creme brulee celebrating a birthday. Nice to have the "Benefit" options...cuisine for a healthier lifestyle. I've had before and they're excellent choices!
I have never been disappointed. From the serving of their delicious chicken broth to the melt-in-your-mouth popover served with strawberry butter, the menu is both flavorful and eclectic... I always love to be seated by the window, for various reasons, and look forward to viewing the latest fashions, informally...
Don't miss a relaxing time ...
There are a great choice of salads at Mariposa. My favorite is the crab salad, but I love a number of the other lunch dishes, too. They are flexible with removing some ingredients and doubling others when requested. A lovely oasis from the bustle of Michigan Avenue!
Elegant dining in Neiman Marcus. Quiet and conversation friendly with attractive decor of modern art on the walls and tables nicely spaced. Good menu and complimentary hot popovers and bouillon in small cups accompany every meal. Service however is erratic and lags - servers do not seem well trained, and long periods can go by without seeing your server, and then the server will stop by every 2-3 minutes! Suggest being clear if you are on a schedule.
Had a wonderful lunch celebrating a friends birthday. Wonderful service and food and we could carry on a conversation and hear each other. A nice change from some other restaurants. My friend received a complimentary dessert with a candle. What a nice touch!!
This was our spot before the remodeling of
With a new name came a new menu .
The food was good before and they have move up with the quaility, the selections on the menu been increased, and the service is good.
The popover and the chicken consommé made the menu again. The Zodiac is now gone and the new place is now staring .
The view to the north showing the Water Tower and the part view of Michigan Avenue was ok. The natural sun light beamed in the room with warm.... there is nothing like natural light...
We had a double Birthday celebration and business lunch.
Mariposa never fails! When you start with the delightful, genteel touch of fresh popovers and warm chicken soup, it's hard to get better. Yet the menu manages to be pleasantly varied, unpretentious, and uniformly delicious, and the service is impeccable. It's a perfect place to meet for lunch with a special friend and know that you will be given both privacy and quietly unimposing attention to every request. Great staff, particularly Karen, who will be in the Hospitality Hall of Fame, as soon as she chooses to retire, which I hope is not before we get to have lunch with her many more times.
The waitress was very much rough and not kind--never saw a smile on her face.
The popovers were never hot, just being greasy, with the starwberry butter already being melted.
The waiters were also rough and dropped food pieces into pur shopping bag while clearing off the table, and when I tried to pick it up from the shopping bag, he says how nothing fell into the bag--that it only fell onto the ground. OMG!!
I have high expectations for all Mariposas but the Chicago location is the worst. Yes, I've been there before and last time thr Popovers were served towards the end of the meal due to problems wih the oven. Still, the waitress was rather kind--BUT NOT THIS TIME!!
The food was tasty but mostly very salty (all dishes).
Overall, I would not wish to visit this location ever again.
Why do I tend to forget about this restaurant? It is positively charming and a relaxed place to dine and have meaningful conversations without the need to shout at each other. The food is excellent and the starter of broth and popovers is their trademark. If you plan to shop "on the avenue" be sure and stop in to this lovely dining establishment on the top floor of Neiman's. Pricey - but you won't regret it.
A favorite destination for lunch in Chicago, Neiman Marcus' 4th floor Mariposa (Spanish for butterfly) adds a fine-dining elegance to lunch, including the complementary classic demitasse of Chicken Consommé, followed by delightful turnovers served with strawberry butter.
The menu features contemporary American fare with upscale main-course salads, sandwiches and entrees. On top of everything else, the service is impeccable.
The seating is smartly arranged so every conversation is private and if your timing is perfect, you may just enjoy a designer's fashion show...
Delicious food complete with calorie counts on the menu to inform you. The popovers w strawberry butter and small shot of bouillon are must haves tho that will add to your total calories at lunch. Love to see the new merchandise too as there are few models sharing the latest during your lunch. It is a great place for quiet conversation too.
The popovers and strawberry butter are always a nice treat. This time ours were not warm Like they usually are. There was only one waitress at lunch so she was a little busy and we waited a good amount of time without getting greeted by her and drink orders. It also took a while to get our bill. I love the Mariposa though always very nostalgic, the signature chicken salad and orange soufflé were delicious.
Mariposa is great. I sink into the warm popovers with strawberry butter and savory chicken broth and after that enjoy limitless iced tea, delicious and healthful entrees and a lovely, bright room with, if I'm lucky, a view of the historic Water Tower. I always look forward to going there.
A great place! The popovers are delicious with strawberry butter. There are many selections that are good. Their chicken salad is wonderful with the jello mold. Nice salads and tacos.
A good place for a special occasion; lunch with friends and business meetings. Always consistent.
