Mariposa at Neiman Marcus - Houston Ratings and Reviews
My mom and I dine at Mariposa every year during the after Christmas sale. We love the hot broth, monkey bread, and service especially this past time because our waitress was so attentive and got all of our orders perfectly correct. Food and drink presentation is outstanding, I had a salad with salmon. The only disappointment was my salmon, I found it to be lacking flavor. Our food is usually a lot tastier and mom thought the same. It is always the perfect spot to have lunch before getting the heavy shopping in!
Mariposa is adorable! I thoroughly enjoyed it. My mom was in from our of town so we decided to catch up over Saturday lunch. The food was fantastic, the service was excellent, and the butter was pink (SUCH a nice touch). Mariposa was the perfect choice for a mother daughter lunch spot. Our server, Rosa Galan, was so sweet and very diligent. She had recommendations for drinks, food and dessert and she was so charming! We each ordered a cup of soup and split the grilled cheese and side salad. It was the perfect amount of food and everything tasted great. I had the tortilla soup and it was perfect for a chilly day! My mom had the chili con queso soup with her sandwich and it was divine. 10/10 we will certainly return. Thank you Rosa for a wonderful experience!
It has been years since I visited Mariposa. I thought it would be nice to take my daughter since she had never been. I viewed the menu online and there were several options that I thought she would like. However, when we stepped off the escalator, all we had to do was follow the fishy smell to locate the restaurant.
Not once did the server smile or offer suggestions. The menu was completely different than what appeared online. The selections were quite slim and most had a seafood component. We honestly felt that the monkey bread was the best experience, but even it wasn't as good as it once was. There were no simple salad or sandwich options.
We were disappointed in the entire experience and will not be returning.
Took two lady friends here who are new to Houston. Love how they bring broth to the table to start the meal. My friends chose hot tea with their meal, I had a sparkling mineral water with fresh limes. Two of us had salads and one had soup. Everything was delicious and we all enjoyed the meal so much. We were there a while because we had much to visit about and share with each other. However, we were never rushed. Service was attentive yet respectful of not interrupting our time together. It was a perfect meal. One of the ladies told me later that she definitely was going to do this again! Success. My thanks to Mariposa for offering a beautiful enjoyable experience.
The tables for two are so close together that you cannot have a private conversation, particularly if the restaurant is full and the noise level is extra high. I would love to see them expand this space and have a more open area with a bit more space for diners to enjoy their friends. You are packed in!! But it is still a great place for lunch while out shopping at the Galleria.
20 years since last visit. Great updates. Friendly service and clientele. Only criticism is that my turkey sandwich contained bacon that was more rock-hard and the sliced granny smith apples were also hard. Had too work too hard to enjoy a simple turkey sandwich. Broth was excellent as were cocktails.
Service very very slow. Was at table quite a while before we were even acknowledged. And it was half empty in the restaurant so there seemed to be no excuse. Hard time getting a drink refill as well. That said, my salmon tacos were good, and I always enjoy the monkey bread.
I wish I could give this a better review. I took my sister and daughter for sis's b.d. The complimentary little mug of chicken broth is the best thing we had! I wish I could order a whole bowl of it. My daughter had the salmon and wasn't thrilled with it - too dry and under seasoned. I had the curry chicken salad. It was just good, but a little too heavy on the curry. My sister had the tuna salad and tomato soup. We all tasted the soup and all agreed it was kind of strange. Couldn't identify the spice in it, but none of us liked it. None of us "hated" our meal but we were expecting much more.
I also mentioned when I made the reservation that it a birthday event; then again when we arrived. Nothing was said, no happy birthday, complementary desert, nada. Which was again, very disappointing. Think I'll try the restaurant at Saks next time I'm at the Galleria.
Guess I expected better food. Chicken salad sandwich was served on semi hard bread that was not even toasted.. Chicken salad had chunks of white meat but no flavor at all. Very bland. I just ate the salad with the tomatoe and lettcus taking off the hard cold bread. fruit cup was a joke, with only 5 tiny little cubes of fruit. Tortilla soup was probably good but so full of greasy corn chips I could only get a few bites out of it and had to leave the soggy chips.
The special chocolate cake that was featured was amazing. Best part of meal.
Overall I love Mariposa. I've been coming here for years. The main reason why I deducted stars on the ambience is because the look is very outdated. It would be nice if they did some upgrades...at least the TVs. The service typically depends on how busy they are. They don't wipe off your table if there's food on there which is a little annoying. They have some great menu options that are lower calories and still taste great!
