Mario's Table Ratings and Reviews
There's a reason that Mario's is the favorite restaurant of Gold Coast locals--it's a delightful place, with authentic Southern Italian cooking. If you tell Owner Mario that you liked a particular dish, you will often hear, "I'm so glad you enjoyed it. That was my mother's recipe." Mario pays close attention to how his food is received by his customers. He stops at the tables, asks what you ordered, and if you liked it. And he is there virtually every minute the restaurant is open. He is caring about each and every customer. And he must be very caring about his staff, as well. He has a group of employees who have been there for a long time. The service is excellent and they are a happy, congenial group. Hope Mario's Table will be there for a very long time.
I usually enjoy coming here although this trip was different. The host would only seat me if I promised to leave by a certain time. I understand I was early to my reservation but I did not like to feel rushed. I felt as though I couldn’t truly enjoy my dinner
This long-time favorite of Gold Coast residents features wonderful Southern Italian cooking. Their small orders of pasta are a full meal for most people. The salads are fresh and lovely. Because Mario's himself is there almost all the time that the restaurant is open, the standards are high and the standards are met. When Mario asks what you had for dinner and if you liked it, he really cares. The food is consistently good--because Mario keeps a sharp eye on the kitchen. Many of the recipes are from his family--and apparently his family was comprised of very good cooks.
Great good and service! Prices are very reasonable for the dishes served. My only complaint is that it is such a small venue that it gets very loud and it's hard to have a conversation when the restaurant is at max capacity. That said, I would definitely visit again!
First time diner at this terrific gem of an Italian restaurant in the heart of The Gold Coast. Casual, welcoming neighborhood spot. Not pretention here. I ordered the boneless breast Chicken Vesuvio and it was very good. My friend had one of the Veal dishes and she said it was excellent. The prices were very reasonable. Service is professional. I would go back again to try the Caesar Salad and one of their pasta dishes!
Although I had an Open Table reservation, I was told that I could not be seated in the main dining room. I was seated next to the bar. It was noisy and uncomfortable. The bartender served me and gave me a free soft drink and dessert for my trouble, but the owner never spoke to me and I felt disrespected by the host who seated me. The food was beyond delicious.
This is one of those places where the owner comes around and greets you warmly. Mario is a very genuine guy, and is quite obviously interested in his guests' well-being. The cuisine is basic Italian-American food, prepared well and served attractively. I go there every time I visit Chicago.
It's not an accident that Mario's is packed on a Tuesday night at 7 PM. The food is predictably good, with frequent additions to the menu. And it's not just great Italian food - the grilled Salmon is delicious. It has a neighborhood vibe but it's still sophisticated. And Mario is always there. He works the room and makes you feel like you are the guest of honor.
This was our third visit to Mario's Table and once again was a wonderful dinner. The eggplant parmesan was phenomenal and the Seafood Diavola was amazing. The dishes were prepared to perfection and they weren't skimpy on the serving size. The wine selections were good and moderately priced. We stumbled across this neighborhood gem and have decided it is our "go to" place when we want to eat out and not have to travel far or pay a fortune for a nice dinner in a relaxed atmosphere. It has been busy every time we have been there and Mario has been there every night ready to meet patrons. I strongly recommend paying a visit. You won't be disappointed!
Great neighborhood Italian restaurant. Bustling on a Friday night before heading to a show , we were seated right away and had a glass of wine in hand within a few minutes. Menu had lots of great options and we loved the bow tie pasta with peas and prosciutto.
Great neighborhood spot for Italian food, with a very nice fresh fish selection . Wonderful salads, pizza, and pasta. The bar is always busy and very friendly. The only negative is that there is no valet parking, and street parking is difficult. Best to take public transportation
I've been meaning to try Mario's for a couple years and I am glad I finally did. I had pasta with white clam sauce - which was very tasty! But the table next to ours ordered pizza and it look delicious with a very THIN crust (so not good for foodies looking for deep dish). So yes I will definitely go back to this restaurant.
We made a reservation for Friday night after we had arrived in town...we had an appointment at the apple store before and realized we might be late and so i called Marios and they were happy i called and said they would just see me at 9:15..welll we showed up around 9:00 and they happily got our table ready and sat us. As soon as we walked in we noticed the lively dining room..the pleasant murmur of the crowd....all the smiling faces...enjoying their meals. We instantly felt at home. Plus we don't mind the casual nature...seemingly lots of locals who had frequented Marios. I think for the location, Gold Coast, this place is a gem. Any other italian place in that spot would be another Spiaggia but this place is wam homey and the prices are very good.THey feature specials nightly and all their food that we tried was excellent..from the warm bread to the caprese...the calamari...the pastas...and the swordfish. Let me not forget the pizza. The crust was a flaky wafer if you can imagine that...crispy but flaky..such an interesting texture but just so light and airy...I could eat that daily. We had the white pizza special which was proscuitto arugula with a white cheese base. So darn good. I just can't say enough. And no we didn't eat all that in one visit.. We cancelled our reservation for the next night at The Palm to return to Marios for more goodness...and will be back again..hopefully soon.
The food was delicious and so affordable for the portions! The staff was so friendly and accommodating as we had to wait for friends delayed on their flight in. They made sure 3of us were comfortable and seated together at the bar on a very busy night and gave us a great table as soon as it was available. The owner came around to greet us and all the guests. It was a wonderful dining experience! Definitely go here!
Love this location. Great food. Amazing service. Reasonable prices. On Tuesday wine is two for one price. A great benefit and it makes for a busy night there on Tuesday, so it can be noisy, but it's all good. Laughter, animated conversations, and just a fun-filled evening. Love it.
