Mario's has quickly become the go-to spot for us in that area. Great wines, great food, and amazing service (Karen should be commended for her attentiveness) combune for a delightful experience.
Had a great time at Mario's! Great service, wine and food! Would definitely recommend
Waiter was helpful with one guest's special diet requests. It was much appreciated.
We had had a great time dining @ Mario's Table. Our waitress was very patient with us and would check occasionally checked on us . The tiramisu was DELICIOUS! Everyone enjoyed their entrees. I would come back without a special occasion.
Sometimes when things aren't quite right, it's how the restaurants handle the problem that make or break your evening. Mario's Table passed with flying colors. This is my neighborhood go to place. Mario is always there to great everyone. The staff is friendly and helpful.
All was well except for two things, and they were both handled the right way, so even though both issues involved the same member of our party of 5, he will definitely return. When he felt a cocktail was not made quite right, it was remade, and then readjusted until it was declared perfect. When the veal parmigian tasted like too much cheese covering up a bland veal, the item was taken off the bill.
I should note that everyone else's food was fine, as were the other drinks. Well done Mario.
From the moment we arrived at this bustling restaurant we knew we made the right choice. The hostess was very accommodating to us and provided us with an excellent table. The server was attentive and efficient, but the food was the star! The Calamari combo was delicious as were the lasagna, Caesar salad, and delectable lamb chops. They made great martinis and the wine pours (1/2 priced Tuesday - 2 for 1) were generous. Plus the owner came over to introduce himself. So THIS is out neighborhood Italian restaurant- that's for sure. Loved it!
Fan...Friggin...tastic. Great food, service, atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Very warm and friendly staff. Service was excellent. Food fantastic. Love this gem in the city😊
This was a wonderful neighborhood find! Mario himself checked on our table three times! He really cares about his patrons and wanted our dining experience to be the best! I'll definitely return!
We celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary at Mario's. It was a fantastic choice. The food was spectacular, everyone working was very friendly and inviting, and Mario personally thanked us for choosing to celebrate there. It's the best Italian my wife and I have ever had and we will definitely recommend it to everyone we know who his visiting Chicago.
Service was outstanding in spite of us being 30 minutes late due to traffic. Food was terrific and will return.
LOVE Mario's and have had nothing but great experiences there. Excellent food - great service - and Mario makes you feel like you're a guest in his home.
Pizza Primavera was excellent. Thin crust, super fresh veggies, delicious. Worth going there just for the pizza.
Caesar salad was very good.
Host was very friendly.
Waitress was super nice and accommodating, provided excellent service.
Bus service excellent: plates cleared as soon as we were finished; water and iced tea were replenished without having to ask.
Uncomfortably warm, seemed to be little to no A/C.
Extremely noisy; small place with lots of tables close together.
Grilled Portabella Mushroom was chopped into tiny pieces, which wasn't mentioned in the description. It was described on the menu as being served over sautéed spinach, and we expected it to be in one piece like a steak would be. The taste was just ok.
Wine selection was disappointing. Tasted the pinot noir and merlot, $13-$14/glass, and both tasted like vinegar, overly tart and acidic. Estancia cabernet was better, but at $16/glass seemed way overpriced. And one glass gave me a bad wine headache, which I only get with low-end wines.
My husband wanted a great marinara sauce with spaghetti and he added meatballs! He is hard to please but he liked it. Ceasar dressing a little heavy but lettuce was icy cold. Tables, chairs, floors a little worn out but waiter very attentive.
We were celebrating my husband's birthday and it was excellent, as always. In addition to celebrating special occasions we will stop by anytime when we are craving good Italian food.
Mario is super nice and personable and always stops by the tables to chat.
We celebrated my daughters 17th bday here with here friends. We couldn’t have been treated better!!!!
We've had dinner at Mario's several times and it's always been good. Not overly fancy but the kitchen and waitstaff do a nice job
Always good, consisent, delicious, neighborhood gem!
Karen took care of our table and gave flawless service. Tried the bow tie pasta dish for the first time and it might be our new favorite, although we still love the whole wheat rotini primavera. I tried the veal ravioli Marsala which was on the specials menu and it was delicious! Mario's is our favorite neighborhood restaurant and the food and service are very special.
We had a wonderful first time experience at Mario's Table. It was easy to locate and we parked in the Indigo Hotel garage with validation from the restaurant. It is a lovely neighborhood place with delicious food!! Our group had Veal Picatta, Eggplant Parmesan, Lasagna & Bow Tie Pasta...Calamari for appetizer and Tiramasu & Lemon Sorbet for dessert. We had a visit from Mario and our waitress was excellent. We would highly recommend and we will be back!!
Fine Italian Restaurant, quiet and great food. Mario (Owner) personally walked around and greeted every guest and held conversations. The server gave honest advice on the various selections. The Eggplant Parm is amazing. Have already recommended it to several friends. Great place!
Great location, great staff, and best of all, GREAT FOOD!!! Good drinks, good wine list, and for sure I'll be going back.
A true neighborhood gem, indeed. For us Gold Coasters in downtown Chicago, Mario's is a great spot to meet, with easy access, intimate yet casual setting and that great food, great service combo that keeps people coming back. I admit I'm prejudiced, having gone to high school with the owner, whom we all figured would end up in the restaurant biz and he's done well. Ironically, this location was once home to my fav French restaurant, but it went away.
Really enjoyed my meal, the company and the service, from start to finish.
We celebrated a birthday and the staff was wonderful! So was the food and the birthday tiramisu!
Mario's is the gem that everyone knows about but you. We found Marios this summer and are regulars. Try the grilled calamari appetizer and grilled veggies. Everything is good. It's consistent. And, family operated.
Our party of four enjoyed a very good Caesar salad and excellent soft shell crabs. Wine prices are high.
The caeser salad and eggplant parm are very good. Great place to unwind.
Great neighborhood place. Food is always good .
Love two fer Tuesdays with 2 glasses of wine for the price of one ! Good wine, good food.
Mario's seasonal soft shell crabs are prepared simply and are very tasty. The lake perch was a little bland but tender and not all fishy. The Caesar salad was excellent.
This is our friendly neighborhood restaurant, but we are so thrilled to have this gem so close by. The menu is imaginative; the artichoke salad is crazy good and we've never seen it anywhere else. Lake perch is a rare treat, but they have it quite often, so good. The white pizzas are the best and have the thinnest imaginable crunchy crust! Also, so good. Whole wheat pasta primavera is great. Also try the chicken Milanese with salad! Many items are available as half orders, which we really appreciate.
Terrific neighborhood gem, quality traditional Italian. Loved the Steak Vesuvio.
I was sad that we were seated in such a bad spot so couldn't enjoy the ambiance and friendliness of the place. We had the reservation and it felt like they had a wide open seating and brought us to the worst table they had.
We enjoyed the burratta plate as a starter followed by soft shell crabs for our entrees. The soft shells are lightly battered served with lemon slices and a side of spinach and mashed potatoes and are delicious. Service was excellent.
Mario's soft shell crabs which are in season now are the best. The presentation is simple but the taste is great. Also, two glasses of wine for the price of one on Tuesdays is a bargain.
I love the food here as I've been many times with different people & for different occasions. My friend lives on Astor right near here so we'd go often. Very upsetting this time around!!!:( Our waiter was a total idiot!:(
He forgot to add soup on the bill & after we were all paid-came out w/a separate bill for $6.76! After he was the one who forgot to add it on! Really?! The mgr only got a bit of it, & made a rude comment. Soo...not called for!!!
-**Very unhappy abt this server embarrassing! I'm a total foodie & go many places. He should've comped it as it was his fault-not make a big deal & embarrass customers when it was he who didn't do bill correctly! If he added it on all together, wouldn't have been issue! Was his fault!
I enjoy this place normally, but NOT this time!!!:(
It was a great experience dining at Mario's table. It's your Italian neighborhood restaurant where you can meet with friends and have a good pasta over the bottle of red wine.
Tiramisu was outstanding.
Service was very friendly and super fast.
The only thing was missing on the menu - good Italian espresso
Awesome food awesome service great dining experience food was cooked to perfection appetizers were awesome. Highly recommend for business or pleasure Mario's table number one on my list
Wonderful ambiance as well as food and service. They had a wine special that day and all of us girls loved the twofer and were able to mix and match the wine. Food was delicious.
Picked this place because it was a "local gem" and loved it. This was great Italian fare.
Most things were just ok, but the service and ambiance were good. The food was quite average
