Mario's Restaurant - Arthur Ave. Ratings and Reviews
Mario's had changed its wine list and menu since our last visit. The Cabernet Sauvignon that we used to order was unavailable, as well as another wine that my husband requested from the new list. Instead, we ordered Montepulchiano, which was pretty good.
Our pizza appetizer was hot and tasty.
The orange roughy oreganata was good.
Linguine with garlic and oil and broccoli rabe needed more broccoli rabe, but it tasted good.
We liked best the penne siciliano.
With all the hype about Marios I was anticipating an awesome dining experience. Here is how our experience played out..... antipasto was great...chicken marsala was pretty good, chicken parm was ok, and my veal parm was very disappointing. Barely any sauce on top,and the extremely small bit of mozzarella was horrible, and the whole dish was very dried out..... not impressed at all.
Mario's is a basic, red sauce, Arthur Avenue Italian-American restaurant with the added perks of free valet parking and that they take reservations on OpenTable. We had the misfortune of being there on a day of a Fordham home game and the place was packed and noisy, so the restaurant didn't get to show it's best. The service was rushed and the waiter didn't have the opportunity to be attentive until we were having coffee and the place was less crazy. There were no specials, even though it was a Saturday night, so review the menu online before making up your mind. The food was good, but not very interesting.
Had a wonderful time at Mario's. Had a reservation for a late lunch and was seated promptly.
Food was incredible! Large portions and delicious. The four of us all ordered different entrees.
Each of us being very full and satisfied! Timing throughout was perfect. Did not feel rushed or wait too long for our appetizer or entrée. Overall; Great experience and would definitely return!
A very good find on Arthur Avenue, especially for groups. Service is individualized but this is a large scale establishment. Wine selections are good and reasonable. Food was also good and arrived at our table (for 8) exactly as ordered. Appetizers and main courses arrived hot and tasty!
Great authentic Italian restaurant serving southern Italian food located right on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. I recommend sharing appetizers and as as your entree, the homemade pastas. Service was exceptional even though the place was extremely busy. A fun restaurant, either to celebrate a special occasion or just for everyday dining.
First time going to Arthur Avenue and we will go back. We live Upstate or we would go more often. My husband and I both had a very good meal, he had veal and I had a wonderful pesto dish. Service was good and drinks were also good. We will definitely go back.
Sorry but this is yet another Italian restaurant we have tried on Arthur Ave. Ian's have been disappointed with. I am from the UES in NYC and went there because we stayed for the evening show of the Chihully at the NY Botanical Gardens. The dinner special was a great buy, but the food was awful. I could not eat the sole scampi and the stuffed peppers were very mediocre. Our waiter seems tired but was nice enough. Will not return.
Lobster ravioli was very good as was the Ceasar salad. Linguini with clam sauce was good, could have used a few whole clams on top... Wine was expensive, Cosmo was excellent. Waiter was very attentive and brought over a bottle of wine to help keep the price down.
First time to Arthur Avenue in a long time and what a neat area - lots of restaurants, bars, activities - a real New York locale. Marios was excellent - food, service and everyone seemed to have great time. Fairly priced and highly recommended. Can't wait to go back.
It was jammed busy. We were turned away at the door at 6:30 but were able to make an Open Table reservation for 7:30 pm for 4 people. Every inch was occupied by diners at tables. The burrata appetizer was out of this world great, and the lobster ravioli good, but the rest of the food was just average...eggplant parmesan, chicken parmesan, lasagna. The service was slow...and the waiter had to be reminded of our orders. It seemed kind of expensive (40 pp with a relatively cheap bottle of chianti) for the value.
We enjoyed the dining experience very much. We were little early for our reservations and they were able to accommodate us without a problem. The wait service was very satisfactory and personable. The food was very good and the portions very generous. I had a dish that my Mama used to cook (Giambotta with chicken off the bone, crumbled sausage and the hot peppers) and Mario's was every bit as good - but please don't tell Mama. "Molto Delizioso!" Everyone at the table enjoyed everything ordered, from the appitizers to the deserts and espresso, and believe me we have some particular eaters in our group however we were all members of the "Clean Plate Club". The main dining room is a little tight but everyone is friendly. I would definitely recommend the restaurant however reservations are a must. Check it out, worth the trip.
Although the food was tasty the service was subpar. When our orders were brought to the table half were wrong and the waiter had to return to the kitchen. When the correct entrees were delivered vegetable accompaniment was wrong. I was told there were no more string beans. When I replied that I didn’t want the zucchini and to please get me a salad instead the string beans apparently became available. Since there are so many restaurant choices I don’t think that I will return here again
We made reservations at Mario's because it was recommended to me by a friend. The food was very good. There were dinner specials to choose from or the regular menu. We had the house chardonnay - good value at $25 and tasted good too. The restaurant was lively but to be expected anywhere you dine at Arthur Avenue. I liked the fact that they had valet parking . It made it very easy to get to the restaurant and then leave for the event at Botanical Gardens. I would definitely recommend Mario's
If you are seeking an Arthur Avenue experience then this place is great. They have Live entertainment that is exactly what you would expect. If seeking fine Italian food, then this probably isn't the right destination. Enjoyed my experience but certainly wouldn't make a trip back.
Disappointing meal on Arthur Avenue in light of the reviews. Last-minute option when another place in the neighborhood was too long of a wait; I have no idea why Mario's has over a 4-star average. The food was mediocre at best - standard Italian American fare, not particularly well-executed. Service was friendly but slow - the menu's admonishment to "be patient" because the food is prepared to order didn't salve things, either. Most annoyingly, there was a rotation of about four singers (whom we were seated directly in front of) and a keyboard belting out non-stop Frank Sinatra songs at a volume that made it almost impossible to hold a conversation. Wine selection was decent. Didn't bother to stay for dessert, won't be making a return visit.
