This was a nice restaurant. Food was excellent. A bit noisy. But I’m guess everyone was enjoying them selves. Valet parking a plus.
Always a wonderful meal! Great wait staff! Warm and friendly atmosphere! Highly recommend Mario’s.
Mother’s Day family dinner - fantastic!
Wouldn't go back
The lunch specials are quite a bargain! A late lunch with my son, a Fordham student preparing to pack up his dorm room for summer, was perfect.
Food was delicious - old school, New York style. Very cheerful place - everyone seemed to be having a good time. All the food around us looked great. We ordered spiedini, fried calamari, lobster fra diavolo, pasta with white clam sauce. Simple, fresh, carefully prepared. The service was just as stellar. As busy as the restaurant was, the staff called a car for us to head back into Manhattan. If that was not enough, they went out of their way to make sure the car arrived! Was well worth the trip. Will be back with the kids.
Awesome restaurant! Authentic Northern Italian
Appetizers and desserts were great- especially the lemon coconut cake ! The entrees were uninspired and bland. Best cappuccino ever. It was a mixed bag. Nice wait staff.
They we’re understaffed
Food was good but they were understaffed. Had to wait for service throughout our dinner.
I am sure coming back to Mario's. The food was awesome and they made us feel like at home!
Good food, great service. Valet parking is added value especially on a busy day.
Went for early lunch. We were first customers of the day. The waiter was efficient but no personality not even a smile. The food was ok nothing special but portions are small compared to Italian restaurants we frequent on long Island. The Caesar salad has grated cheese instead of a higher quality shaved parmesan and the dressing is horrible. Ladies room is old and dirty looking. Restaurant needs a facelift. Will not return.
Excellent service, our meals were delicious. Your dinner is paced so well. Highly recommend.
Food was great but awful service. 20 minutes for a server to get to us and take drink orders. Another 20 to get drinks and order. Appetizers and dinner spaced out poorly. Would go back but wasn’t ideal considering price and other options on arthur ave.
Great home style Italian food, good service, and solid prices. Would definitely recommend getting either hot or cold antipasto, and the cheese ravioli. Add meatballs too! Absolutely coming back. Fun family place as well.
I love the long history of MARIO'S nearly as much as the food. The service is impeccable. The waitstaff entertaining as well as helpful. Can't wait to return!
Over priced and not that much food for what you pay...
I traveled to NYC from Houston on a business trip to the Bronx and hosted colleagues from the UK. When I inquired about good Italian Restaurants in the Bronx, was told to go to Arthur Ave. So I looked up restaurants on Open Table and Mario's was top rated. I was NOT disappointed. The food was fantastic. They had valet parking which was also great! Mario's is 100+ years old and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I would definitely return for the food, the hospitality and the experience. 5 star all the way.
Great food! Even better service. Top to bottom a great spot.
Just a classic old school Italian restaurant that defines what makes Arthur Avenue so special. Get the calamari and the vongole.
Love to come “home” to Arthur Avenue - and our family favorite is MARIO’S! Love the food , staff and environment.
We arrived for our reservation on time and were asked to wait in a small, dingy waiting area for over 30 minutes with no updates until one of our party, desperate with hunger asked for one. The restaurant was very busy, and it took another 25 minutes before our drinks came and while dinner was fine, there was nothing that our party of six found outstanding. Underwhelmed, we could not recommend this restaurant.
Amazing food & service! Memorable meal in the heart of Arthur Avenues!
This is my second time here. The first time was just so so but I decided to give it a second try. Mainly because it was Saturday night and I couldn’t get a reservation at Pasquale Rigoletto, which is across the street and excellent. The staff at Mario’s is very friendly, but not attentive once they realize that you are there for a simple dinner and not a four course extravaganza with drinks. That being said, I was once again disappointed with the entree. My veal sorrentina was tough, bland and had practically no melted mozzarella on top. My husbands half chicken was tough. Bread was toasted hogue roll...huge disappointment. One of the best things about eating on Arthur Ave is the crusty tasty bread and I missed that. All in all, a better place for tourists.
We went Saturday night before a visit to the Botanical Gardens. The place was packed.
Gracious service , large menu and large portions. Food was only OK. One dish over cooked and another arrived cold. Many families with small children; lots of crying and yelling,
I would not go back on a weekend. Might try a week day evening.
Glad to have made reservations! The place was packed (The NY Yankees had a day game, and had just finished), but the food and service was great. Not our first time there, and won’t be the last. Manny, our waiter, was excellent.
Coming back to Mario’s is like putting on a favorite outfit. It feels so good and you know just what to expect. We are by no means regulars, but we were greeted with a “welcome back” and “good to see you again” by both the hostess and our server. The food is always wonderful and, again predictable in the best sense of the word. We should think of ‘Mario’s more often, and for us, it’s well worth the short drive from Manhattan
The only complaint I have is that the band was too loud. I cannot see why a live band in a restaurant is a draw for some people. We had trouble hearing each over over the band. Also we were asked by the waiter to pay the tip in cash. What's up with that?
Always a good choice on Arthur Avenue. And the valet parking helps!
As before, professional and attentive waiter and other staff. Congenial atmosphere, great Italian food.
The food is phenomenal. Their eggplant rollatini is one of the best I've ever had. As first timers, my husband and I were impressed with the cuisine and the service. The noise factor can get to be a bit much when it's crowded but that seems to part of the energy of the place.
Absolutely! We go there every other month for our girl luncheon. The food is always good,
Excellent. Met up for friends from
What a great restaurant, especially after a NY Yankee victory! Mario's ALWAYS has great food and impeccable service. Ideal for family's with young children and they always welcome Yankee fans coming right from the game! This place is a family and neighborhood gem and represents the real Belmont. A must see in the Bronx.
Love the valet parking.
Food is delicious.
Amazing food and customer service. Wasn’t rushed out on a bust Saturday unlike other places.
We've always enjoyed this place but not this time. It was mobbed and so loud, you could hardly hear the person sitting next to you never mind the person opposite you. Our waiter was attentive but the kitchen was not on their game. Food took a long time to arrive and when it did, it was luke warm but it was tasty. However the absolute worst was the desserts. Apple crumb tasted old and the cannoli wasn't crispy. I will still recommend Mario's because this was definitely an off night. We were further disappointed because they did not serve pizza for whatever reason and they do have the best thin crust pizza.
Two parties going on in separate rooms while main dining room was packed. They were so full that they suspended vallet parking and parking on Arthur Ave is impossible. Since some chefs were working the parties, some menu items for main dining room were not available. Waiter was rushing us and did not come back to the table very often to see if we needed anything. Noise level was very high.
Was expecting much better food given the locale, history and competition in the area and was utterly disappointed.
My local pizzeria does much better pasta and food at half the price. Service was adequate at best and place was loud.
Maybe this was a gem during a different era but definitely not anymore.
