Whether stopping in for a satisfying dinner with family or planning a romantic, elegant wedding, Mario's Italian Restaurant has what you desire. The banquet menu can be customized to fit the occasion and includes menus for brunch, lunch, dinner, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Mario's Italian Restaurant also serves a delicious Sunday brunch. Watch as Belgian waffles and omelets are made to order right in front of you. The chocolate fountain and meat-carving station are special treats as well. Mario's dinner menu offers Italian classics like homemade tortelloni, chicken parmigiana and juicy steaks. Pair a red, white or sparkling wine with the meal or peruse the extensive cocktail list when dining out with friends.
After a several year hiatus, we ventured back to Mario's in homage to their long-standing success, as this was their last day of business--the property is being developed for a Whole Foods store. We are sad to see this end of an era; the place has become a Rochester institution, and the food among the 4 of us was delicious and imaginative. Wish they could stick around, as we would certainly go back, but the redevelopment of the property is probably a more lucrative venture.
Love this place so much and so sad to see it go
Marios is better than a whole foods
This was our last visit to Mario's prior to its closing in December 2015. We are only hoping that Mario will open another restaurant with the same wonderful menu somewhere in the Brighton/Pittsford area. We have enjoyed this restaurant through the years and even when it was located on East Ave before it moved to Pittsford 20 years ago. Wishing Mario, his family, and the entire staff much luck with their new endeavors. Thank you for all of your years of service to our community. Thankfully, 'sister restaurant' Bazil is still open!
We recently dined at Mario's Italian Restaurant, a place we have been to MANY times in the past. Unfortunately, we will not ever be able to go there again - because they're CLOSING!!! We have celebrated several special occasions there, and have enjoyed this restaurant so much we have even rented a room at the Comfort Inn directly across the street, in order that we NOT have to drive the 30+ miles home after enjoying dinner and a few drinks there. Mario's has definitely been our FAVORITE restaurant in the Rochester area for some time now. The atmosphere is comfortable, and just romantic enough. The staff, from check-in through bar, through all the wait- staff that we have ever had there, have ALWAYS been wonderful. And the food has ALWAYS been GREAT! Our sincere hope is that this restaurant does, in fact, reopen at some other location in the future. If it does, you can be assured that my wife and I will be there as soon as we can - although we may not be able to use the same Comfort Inn for our "stayover"! We will miss you, Mario's; thank you for the wonderful experiences and the very fond memories!
This was very nicely priced for the extensive variety available to us during the brunch.
I love the food, especially the roasted leg of lamb at the Champagne Brunch. I rave about it to everyone I know. The service is always excellent.
I'm really sorry you're closing. I hope you do reopen some day soon. I'm going to miss feeling like family!
Best of luck,
So sorry that it is closing. We look forward to when it is rebuilt
When I learned this holiday season would be Mario's last, I immediately booked a table during my Thanksgiving visit to Rochester. You would be hard-pressed to find a Rochesterian who doesn't have a series of special memories at Mario's - birthdays, sports banquets, and family dinners. I sincerely hope the Daniele Family reopens at a new location. It would be a shame for such a special place to shutter their doors forever, all for a Whole Foods.
It's to bad it's closed it was always our go to rest. Just loved the food and service
We arrived at Mario's at 4PM hoping for an early dinner...they serve until 7:30. The service was excellent, but they were running out of food, especially at the carving station. No lamb(my favorite), no pork and by our last pass thru, no beef...they had actually brought out a canned ham! Other things were also running out and not being replenished. It was very loud and hard for conversation. I understand that the restaurant is closing soon, but other than the service, I feel they already have. We won't be in a hurry to return.
Mario's has been a stand-out restaurant for decades. Mario and his family crafted a special place. The waitstaff are a cooperative, precision-trained team. They are tight-knit, with many working there for decades. The authentic Italian menu is based on Mario's frequent trips to his family's home in Italy, sprinkled with Italian-American comfort food. Brunch at Mario's is a thing to behold. Served buffet style, brunch is a way to sample many of the house staples. It is easy to get distracted by the towering central dessert table and serving stations, but do not miss the array of imaginative salads that surround the room, most of which are not on the daily menu.
Sadly Mario's is closing in December 2015 to make way for a Whole Foods. It's an end to an era.
I enjoyed the food it so much the wait. I had reservations and I still waited thirty minutes to be seated. I didn't care for that too much
My husband and I dined at Mario's on a Friday evening one last time before it closes its doors on December 23, 2015 to make way for a Whole Foods Market. Mario's has been a special occasion restaurant for us over the years where we celebrated graduations, had weekend brunch and appreciated the unique dining experience.
Everything was served piping hot. We ordered a couple of small plates, something of a prequel to appetizers. The Warm Olives featured assorted olives, citrus zest, Calabrese
balsamic and roasted garlic. What a wonderful, aromatic combination of flavors! We also had the Parmigiano Board which included paper thin slices of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese,
grilled ciabatta and house pickled grapes.
Our appetizer, the Porcetta Sliders was a wonderful texture and taste combination including slow roasted rosemary rubbed tender pork, roasted garlic remoulata, arugula, flash fried pork cracklings, a fresh baked pretzel roll but the promised House pickles were missing from the plate.
Our entrees were terrific. My husband's NY Strip Steak was expertly done and the side of homemade gnocchi was incredible and reminiscent of the Mario's of yesteryear and hopefully of the future! I had the Seafood Cioppino, a generous combination of seafood in a spicy San Marzano tomato broth. It was supposed to also include market fresh fish, but there was none I could detect in the dish.
Our whole meal (no alcohol), including tip, was $120 which was a reasonable amount for a special occasion dinner.
Mario's is worth one last meal. We are hoping the owners find a new location soon where we will once again be eager customers.
Fantastic find and the founder (Mario) walks around greeting every guest, entertaining children and creating a very pleasant environment. The waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable and the food and drinks came out quickly and everything was fantastic. The prices were very reasonable but sadly we found out the restaurant is closing 12/31/15. Although it will re-open at another location in 2016, they still do not have the new location selected. Highly recommend you get to this gem before it closes at the end of the year.
This is a fantastic place for an Italian meal or a goo steak. Too bad it is closing in December 2015
Food was wonderful. We are very disappointing that Mario's will be closing at the end of December. The place was packed when we were there. Not your typical conditions for a place that will be closing soon.
It is always a pleasure dining at Mario's.
The buffet became very limited by the time we left. Not much of a value for the price
Food quality and selection not as good as in the past
It's a shame that such a beautiful restaurant is being torn down for a Whole Foods. We really enjoyed our dinner and our server. She was wonderful. Hopefully she will find another job. Farewell Mario's.
I did split one dish----eggplant parmagiana, and it was smaller than I expected. It looked like a side dish, plus I added a side of spaghetti as the food was so small, and the side was tiny as well.
I wish Mario's Via Abruzzi would become as generous portions as Papa Joe's Italian Eatery in Gates. All their guests end up taking home take out containers for their half portions as well as their full portions. The atmosphere at Mario's is very nice, but the food portions should be much larger to fit the high prices. To me, it is over-rated.
Mario's never disappoints! Food is delicious and their desserts are divine!
We enjoyed a wonderful meal and superb wine list with some new friends. The "two-top" tables in the bar area are so close that the waiter was able to speak to two parties at once! Next time, we will ask for a different area where the tables are not so close. We couldn't have a private conversation and that is unfortunate since the rest of our experience was good.
we picked the "right" restaurant for our discriminating foodie friends. we needed a great place for great conversation and food before a recent concert in Rochester. We drove from out of town and Mario's did not disappoint. Thanks for a great evening, meal, ambiance, etc. We'll be back!!!
While I enjoyed the service and the ambiance, the food was not worth the money. The "flash fried pork cracklings" in the porchetta sliders tasted stale; the marinara sauce that came with my spaghetti and meatballs was runny. Additionally, the appetizers and entree lacked seasoning and tasted bland. I will not be coming back.
I had heard great things about this place for brunch, and was very excited to finally get this experience after trying out other locations within a 60 miles distance to various degrees of success. They offer a large list of items to choose from, which is a huge plus. Unfortunately, they do not have enough stations to keep things warm to satisfaction. As a result, some foods were cold and had lost their appeal and taste. They offer complimentary mimosas with the brunch, which actually tasted completely like orange juice. It's champagne level was so long that it could not be detected at all, and in fact I had thought that we accidentally received a regular batch of juice. Our waitress was nice enough to actually make table side mimosas for us, which greatly enhanced the experience and showed that they were willing to go the extra step to accommodate their guests.
The food was delicious and the service was great! It was slammed being a Saturday and things came out still in a relatively timely manner.
The meal was very good , especially the lobster bisque. Our server Stefanie was very attentive.
I took my wife to Mario's for her birthday. It was our first time at the restaurant and we had 6:00 reservations on a Monday so the restaurant was not crowded at all. Menu was ala carte so meal prices can add up in a hurry if you're not careful. They have "table snacks" in addition to appetizers so, again, beware of the added costs.
I made my reservation online and added a note that it was my wife's birthday and requested a nice secluded table if possible. I was slightly disappoint that he only mention of my wife's birthday was after I told the server in addition that it was our first time there. It would have been nice for the waitstaff to acknowledge the occasion without me having to mention it. I don't mean giving something away but informing the server so they can acknowledge would suffice.
All in all our food was very good. It was nothing to get overly excited about but nice portions and very good taste. The wait staff was wonderful and very informative and attentive (maybe because it wasn't crowded). We did have the wine special of the day ($4/glass); my wife ordered the Chicken French and I ordered the Tour of Italy. The French was slightly on the lemony side but good flavor. The Tour of Italy had a trio of (1) baked chicken parmagiano, (1) homemade spaghetti and meatball, and hand (1)rolled baked meat cannelloni. All were a little on the bland side but good.
Overall a very nice restaurant but there are others in Rochester just as comparable for less $.
We come here for brunch quite often & this may have been the best so far. This was my 1st Oct fest and I will continue this tradition. I'm looking forward to my Holiday brunch. I've been bringing 10 family members every year for the past several years.
The buffet food was cold "luke warm at best" and seemed to be setting there a while. I had family from out of town and was disappointed with the quality. If there had been menu options I would have choose that. Your restaurant has catered my husband's office meetings and we were bragging to our family how wonderful it was going to be....Yikes I think if it had been hot and fresh it would have been wonderful! The service was excellent and the staff was very attentive. We were very please with that.:)
We went for the Italian buffet. The selection of food was more than you could possibly eat. The food was excellent. The desserts were awesome!
My husband surprised me with a birthday brunch with the family! I could not believe the selection they had and how delicious everything was. We eat everything from eggs benedict (yummy) to carved meats and salads!! One dish was better then the other for sure. Then we hit the "sweets"...OMG the chocolate fountain! For sure we tried everything on the table and was not disappointed. We spent two hours eating ,drinking and laughing without once having someone ask us if we were ready for the bill. That was a pleasure!!! Our plates were removed promptly and glasses filled without asking. Our waitress was GREAT!!! All and all this was a GREAT Birthday!!!
My family took me to brunch here for my birthday. I was sceptical about bringing my 8 year old and 2 year old, thinking they are messy and their opinion of fine food is dinosaur shaped nuggets. when we got there we're seated immediately and then greeted by a genuinely cheerful waitress. She didn't have the signature fake smile and hurried, stressed out attitude you sometimes see and most importantly, she didn't look at my 2 year old like she was a hyper puppy bound to make a mess and extra work for her. On the contrary, she greeted all my kids individually and then hurried off to find a booster seat. Then it was time to check out the brunch buffet. Wow. If u can dream it you can eat it here. My husband and I enjoyed amazing eggs Benedict (which when placed in a warmer are usually dried out and hard) fresh Belgian waffles and made to order omelettes, in addition to kid favorites such as chicken nuggets, pizza and tater tot. Head back to the table and our drinks were waiting. Throughout the meal the never got low and the coffee never got cold. I was prepared to pay an arm and a leg, but was happy to see it was very reasonable. All in all great birthday and we WILL be back. :)
I have been going to Marios since I was a kid and I've always loved it. I recently went back for a romantic dinner and it was amazing. The food was great, it wasn't overly crowded or loud and the service was excellent. I hope to be back sometime soon for brunch.
My friend from NYC came to visit me and she wanted to go to a really great place for brunch. I recommended Mario's to her and I made a reservation. Mario's is the BEST place for brunch. The staff are so nice and welcoming.. the food is delicious and amazing! Its the best experience! I will always recommend this place!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Yet again Mario's comes through with a stellar brunch! Our server Erin was exceptional, I wish all servers could be like her, the attentiveness to detail and pleasant personality made this experience such a delight! I will return and personally request her..!
In town and had an oportunity to have dinner with my son. Food was good, service was excellent. Ask for Christine. Nothing spectacular but solid all around and priced right.
We eat at Mario's about once a month. We love their new menu and the variety of foods. My favorite is the Eggplant Parmesan and lasagna. The service is great with Kathy or Deb waiting our table. Highly recommend this restaurant for excellent food and fun place to dine.
Had reservations for 7pm. Arrived at 645, and was told will be ready at 7pm. Did not get seated till 735, very disappointed. packed house full of walk ins. Food was good, but nothing special.
