Granted we were there during a conference and at some peak times but they wouldn’t allow substitutions like turkey instead of corned beef on a Rueben. Prices reflect a captive audience. $25/b’fast buffet, $15/sandwich are typical but where else can you go.
I wouldn’t go out of my way to dine here with so many remarkable places within walking distance in the Gaslamp district.

We had a beautiful table tucked away in the corner overlooking the water. In terms of the balance of food variety and food quality this was among the better restaurant brunches I’ve had. There was more variety than listed on the menu. I especially enjoyed the huevos rancheros, blueberry pancakes with lemon curd, and fresh blueberries and raspberries with lemon creme fraiche.

Christmas Dinner buffet was excellent. I did however feel drinks were overpriced and under value.
We have booked this restaurant for Christmas (we arrive the same from Belgium !) time. There was no lights (too dark to see the menu !). Service was poor maybe due to this period ? Less people available. So in conclusion good but ...

My husband and I were really looking forward to dinner at Marina Kitchen. We even looked at the menu ahead of time and talked about all the delicious sounding entrees.
When we arrived, we were shown to a table and given the beverage menu. We ordered drinks and then asked for the dinner menu. The waitress told us they were only serving bar food that evening due to low reservations. It would have been courteous to let us know ahead of time. We booked the reservation via Open Table several days ahead of time. It would have been nice of the manager to offer a personal apology.
We left the restaurant, not wanting to eat bar food when expecting a special meal. We had to scramble to find another place to go at the last minute.
In conclusion, I'm unable to provide a rating for this restaurant. I would never recommend it to my friends and we definitely won't be going back.
Went for Thanksgiving dinner, place was packed. Food was great for a buffet. Not the usual spread but some more interesting offerings- truffle Mac n cheese, pumpkin risotto, burrata, celery root. Our server was attentive and helpful despite how crazy busy the place was.
Went for Thanksgiving. The food was quite good but the service was poor. It took forever for someone to take our drink order then rarely returned to check on us. I expected much better service at a Marriott. What was very disappointing was that 18% gratuity was automatically added to the check. I typically tip 18-20% for good service. On this occasion I would have tipped 15% but didn’t have a choice.
Thanksgiving buffet was poorly organized. A lot of food barely warm.
Waited a long time for meats to be cut while food on our plates got cold. Why not have turkey and beef sliced?
Overheard several arguments with staff and patrons. Not relaxing or enjoyable. A glass of champagne included with the meal would have been nice.
It's Marriott so they can get away with anything.

Had dinner and drinks here with a friend here, reconnecting after nearly 15 years. It was the perfect spot, the specific evening that we went was quiet and very low key which was fantastic for our conversation. We had the entire porch to ourselves! The restaurant just added to our enthusiasm of reuniting, a very positive experience. I stayed at the Marriott Marquis so the location was very convenient!
Had a wonderful evening that will be in our memories forever.

Very disappointing meal. Four of us tried several items on the menu. Risotto starter was bland and price for portion was excessive. Swordfish special catch of day was bland and over cooked. Salmon was cooked correctly and tasty. Seared Ahi starter actually showed up after swordfish main and was 3 small pieces of seared ahi- also priced excessively based upon portion. Baked Alaska with salted caramel ice cream was pleasant but having to rely on desert to save dinner does not make for a good meal. Very disappointed with cost, portion sizes and ability of the restaurant to handle delivery of our meals especially since it was a Wednesday night after 730pm and restaurant was minimally full of patrons. I can not recommend this restaurant.
I have been here many times before but I went yesterday to celebrate my birthday. We had an amazing brunch Buffett with bottomless mimosas. We sat outside and the view is just incredible. Day or night it is amazing and romantic. They changed the Buffett items and now offer more. The gyozas are new and let me tell you amazing!! Whether it's breakfast, lunch, dinner or cocktails you can't go wrong with this place.
Took her friends out for there wedding gift the service and Food was amazing as always our server was Abe and he was on top of his game!! thank you again... We will definitely be back soon.
The wife and I were staying at the hotel and we ended up here a few times over the weekend. The service and food were above average for hotel locations so good job. One note, we ate too much bread (it's so good) so be careful. All the staff were very nice and had good suggestions, and the view of the marina is nice. If we stay at that location again, we would go here for a convenient meal.
I was having a business lunch at the Marina Kitchen with a difficult customer. I was in La Jolla and running 15 mins late. I called Marina Kitchen to have them inform my guest that I was late but the restaurant had no recall or idea of my reservation. They also did not do anything to help with communicating to my guest that I was late. When I got there, my guest ordered a salad and after he had eaten half of it, he discovered a plastic disc in the salad. (It was one of those plastic clips that's used to close plastic bags of bread, etc.) I was appalled. My guest was not a guest of the Marriott Marquis, but I was. When the server came over, she took the plastic disc from us and said she would take it to the kitchen. There was no apology. Then the manager came over and he said they are making sure it doesn't happen ever again. No apology. No compensation. With that, I told the manager that I refused to pay the bill for our lunch. And we got up and left the restaurant. I will never go back there and I will NOT stay at the Marriott Marquis for any future business trips. That was a horrible experience.

OMG the food was incredible! Tried a few different seafood dishes over the course of a few days and everything was incredible. The service was good too. They were very accommodating of my food restrictions.
Ver comfortable outside seating with heaters. Food was good. Had some appetizers - burrata was excellent - I love garlic but the bread that came with it was a little too garlicky . Good, creative drinks.
For convenience ( my husband attending a conference at the Marriott) I made reservations at Marina Kitchen. We were seated overlooking the marina. The wine/ drink list is extensive with options by the sommelier ( wine by the glass not usually sold by the glass), wines by the glass ,then bottles of wines from all over! Impressive number of options.
The bread is a crusty loaf that defies description ( other than to say I ate four pieces..which I never do) served with butter or a tomato/ olive oil purée.
My husband ordered the four sampler option ( he shared of course) Caesar salad,seared ahi starters..the dressing was one of the better ones I have tasted and the romaine was in nice bite size pieces instead of the full leaves lots of places have gone too. He enjoyed his steak, my cioppino over pasta had a lovely thick tomato broth and plenty of perfectly cooked seafood. The baked Alaska finish was a delicious finish to the meal ( which despite sharing was more than we could finish...

The best meal we had in our week long business/vacation trip. I am never one to go for hotel restaurant, but we were exhausted after a day of convention and we chose to give it a try. Our waiter was awesome our wine service was great. The food was amazing... yes I said amazing. We chose 1 four course meal and shared the appetizers, plus one additional main course. The appetizers were small but so very fresh and flavorful. Our main course the filet and a special of the day chicken were so good. Desserts were just as good. The vanilla cake was to die for. We loved it so much that we went back on our last night in SD.

Had a breakfast meeting during recent convention and the service was attentive to the need to complete the meal in the hour we requested without pushing us. We were in a back booth which was quiet; don't know if the open areas would have been as conducive to business talk.

The breakfast buffet is a must! Normally when we are visiting somewhere we eat a different restaurant each meal, but we loved it so much we had to go twice.
If you go to the Marina kitchen the salads are the best thing on the menu. Also our service from Michael was so exceptional for a hotel restaurant. We even talked about how his service was some of the best we have received anywhere at any restaurant in awhile. Ask for him, he's the best.
