Marie Louise Bistro Ratings and Reviews
The service was a little slower than the last time we were there. It looked like only 1 waiter for most of downstairs. Couple with us went to find the waiter to order since we were going to Center Stage. The food was good as usual and we enjoyed our brunch.
A small group of us (3 people) ate dinner at Marie Louise before a BSO concert at the Meyerhoff. Everyone's food was great. The service was attentive. We were out in just enough time to get into our seats before the show started (our reservation was one and a half hours before the lights went down). It was a very pleasant experience.
Enjoyed the fries, but otherwise didn't have a great experience. Overpriced for what it was. My steak was too fatty and undercooked. I informed my waiter and I was told it would be recooked and returned in 3 minutes but I waited for over 10. I intended to order something different when i arrived but was told they were out of mashed potatoes, which came with the dish. Probably won't be returning for dinner anytime soon but I may try lunch there.
Have eatne there numerous times before. This visit was a disappointment; food was not up to normal standards on three of the four dishes ordered. Had to send soup back. Will probably try again, hoping this was a one time "thing". However, will be reluctant to go back anytime soon.
I've been frustrated lately with restaurants listed as participating in Restaurant Week but once you arrive there's some catch. Such was the case with Marie Louise. After confirming via their website that lunch, not just brunch, was served on Sundays I made reservations. Upon arrival at 11:30 the waiter informed us that the kitchen wasn't ready for lunch and that only brunch would be served until 3:00 or so--ergo, no Restaurant Week menu. While voicing frustration and deciding with my group whether or not to leave, one of the best servers I've ever met saved the day for us. Bulat apologized and placed Restaurant Week and lunch menus on the table while explaining all of our options in succinct, mouth-watering details. Exceptional service.
It's been a long time since my husband and I walked out of a restaurant without finishing a meal. Should have had a warning of things to come when the salad we ordered had a big core in it. Downhill from there. My fish dish was flavorless and my husband's bouillabaisse was disgusting - we thought the seafood was on the verge of being bad but the manager insisted we were tasting the Pernod (talked to us like we were dummies). We paid for our wine and salad and left our entrees. Server was very nice but I will never go back.
Quite disappointed. Went for restaurant week and staff seemed thrown off. Onion soup, which should be easy for a French-inspired restaurant, was one of the saltiest things I have ever tasted (left over from previous night?). Duck was relatively underwhelming, though it could be due to my taste buds being ravaged by the soup. Wife was disappointed in main course also, though her crab soup wasn't bad. Decor was mixed - nice building but chairs/tables severely damaged. Wait staff was interesting (1 person was overly sweating, another couldn't find his indoor voice while running everywhere) but well intentioned. Won't be going back with so many other options out there. In my opinion, GAMPY's filled the space better than Marie Louise.
A quiet lunch at this Mt. Vernon bistro, in large part because it was mid-August and sultry outside. My lamb burger was fine, nothing special, served on a roll that was a bit past its prime. I've been to Marie Louise other times though when the food was excellent so this was obviously a fluke.
Terrible lunch service even though I was there well before noon. I was ignored for more than five minutes while I was standing right next to the computer terminal that was used for both reservations, of which I had one, and the entering orders. It took 25 minutes to bring out my food order despite the fact that the restaurant was not very crowded. I was brought butter for the bread, but no bread.
We were excited about our first visit to Marie Louise, the menu looked great on the website. My husband and I ordered the the spanish shrimp appetizer which had way to much lemon. Two bites into the appetizer here comes the entrees. I'm still amazed they were even brought out. There was not room on the table for them. I asked they be sent back till we finished the appetizers. The wait staff seemed confused like they were not aware there is an order to a meal. When I did receive my entree, the filet in wine sauce, it was very unimpressive. The sauce tasted like ordinary brown gravy and there were way to many mashed potatoes. Overall we were very disappointed and probably will not return.
Took two kids there for a special occasion, and wanted some place where people weren't looking at your noisy kids. A lot of chatter which was good, clean place and well air conditioned with plenty of space for walking around or kids who need some space.
Mac & Cheese was really good, if you're deciding on a dish, get the duck. Seafood was good too (i.e. salmon). Desserts look good, but they weren't as tasty as you'd expect (we probably got the wrong ones-- they really looked amazing). Gelato is a must. Espresso was fresh.
Highly recommend, especially if you want to bring a group of people, or have kids and need to get out. There's plenty of space for your stroller or if your kid needs to walk around or walk up those stairs.
This is used to be a favorite neighborhood gem, but after the horrible service and mediocre food last Saturday, we're done. I could list the myriad things that went wrong, but there are not enough characters available to do so. Suffice it to say, the entire experience was SO unpleasant (and with nary a word of acknowledgement or apology from any staff member for the continuing gaffes!! one server actually attempted to make a joke about removing the full plate from a member of our party who was finally served her meal well after the rest of us had finished ours... nice try, but SO not funny!) that we'll simply take our business elsewhere.
5 guests were given a table between 2 stone walls..not terrible but not very inviting...waitress was very busy and i had to wave her down each time we needed her...food was very mediocre..nothing special..desserts were downright terrible...
waitress not french and though knowledgeable about what was in the food, had no
knowledge of french food or pastries...i wont go back.
The Parisian bistros are known for prompt and efficient service, but not so this Baltimore bistro. A glass of wine came ten minutes after the order was placed and my fish entree took 25 minutes from the time of order. The price for a 'grand" espresso was posted on the blackboard, but mine cost $.95 more because it contained two shots. I was told that one shot was a "petit." I drink at least two espressos a day and know the difference.
Entrees were 1st class and reasonably priced. One of my guests is a vegetarian, so we were also delighted with the interesting vegetarian selections. Desserts were beautiful but didn't live up to the entree quality. Good choice of wines and a list of special martinis ($6 on Mondays). Service was good. I remember this space from my youth -- it has been transformed to a light airy space - very comfortable. Will definitely go back.
Waitress that did not check in on us and we finished the meal before getting a drink refill. Then picked a wine for desert and was brought the wrong one. Upon checking someone told her it was the right wine which seemed odd but I don’t read French. Bill had the wrong wine on it and told the waitress. Manager came over and when told the problem acted like it was our fault. Waitress came over asked what the manager said and told us she was going to pay for it and apologized. I am very sympathetic to the waitress since she was new. Overall like the restaurant food was great and reasonable. I was very surprised at how the manager acted like we were trying to take advantage.
I had booked a dinner for 30 people for my husband's 30th birthday. It was very easy to book through open table and Marie Louise Bistro confirmed the booking on the day. The table was all ready for us at 8 and the server was great. Very aware of when people needed things, prompt with service and had a sense of humor. menu was varied and the price was good (burgers for $10, entrees less than $20). We didn't have to wait long for the food- less than 1/2 hour which i thought was very good considering we had a big group. Most of the group really enjoyed their meal. Some of the meals seemed a bit small. Most were a generous size but some, like the lamb medallion and tiger fish, were really small. Ok for small eater. Overall, great place.
I think the best way to describe Marie Louise is that it's a reliable neighborhood restaurant. I live not that far from it and when I go there I know that I can order the same thing or try something new on the menu and the food will be good with the meal marked by efficient and pleasant service. I wouldn't describe it as a foodie destination, I think of it more as a gourmet comfort food kind of place, but it certainly fits a niche for me and I keep going back.
