Stopped in for some French Onion Soup. Very good. Also had the Steak Frites. All and all a good meal.
Just.. pretty much horrid. No wonder it was empty for lunch
We have been to Marie Louise Bistro in the past before attending a BSO performance and liked the food. Even though we state that we have to leave by 7:30, they have had difficulty serving the food in a timely manner. Last week I wrote on my reservation that we had BSO, we told the gentleman who took us to our table and then also told our waitress that we needed to be out by 7:30. We arrived early for a 6:00 reservation (there was only one other occupied table at the time) and ordered promptly with no changes to menu items. Soup came on time, but by 7:00 we still had not been served our entree. It seems that all their assurances meant nothing if the waitress forgot to put our entree order through! My husband ordered one of their three specials for the day and it came with different vegetables than listed.
I really wanted to be able to dine there before BSO events, but am not willing to try again.
Perhaps they need to have enough servers so that each can pay better attention to the diners.
Fabulous French cuisine, wonderful service, generous cocktails, perfect bistro decor, sinful desserts... what's not to love! That's why we keep coming back!
First visit. My daughter & I were having a mommy & me lunch date. She’s an adventurous eater & we had wanted to try escargot for some time. Prices were reasonable, staff was extremely friendly & food was great. We can’t wait to go back.
Easter- had a special brunch menu ! Nice options - escargots were my favorite.
This was our first time at Marie Louise Bistro and we loved it! It is quaint and charming in the Mt. Vernon section of Baltimore. The calamari was excellent. I had linguini with white clam sauce which was delicious and a wonderful mixed green salad. My son had the lamb burger with feta cheese. He said it was the best lamb burger he has ever had. He also had a Caesar salad that was excellent. Great wine list. Their desserts look fabulous, but we didn't indulge.
Can't wait to come back here!
Our server was outstanding. He was funny, personable, and very accommodating. I got the spinach lasagna, which was amazing. There was a whole list of vegetarian options on the menu and I thought that was really cool because it can be hard to eat out when you're a vegetarian!
Fantastic local bistro
Marie Louise Bistro has become our go-to place for attentive service, great food, and yummy cocktails. My rack of lamb was prepared perfectly and the steak tartare we shared as an app was delicious. Desserts are always top-notch, with many choices.
This is a gem of a place without the crowds, good prices and good food and nice staff. We had delicious linguine with white clam sauce; the good sized steak frites; salmon (a little bit dry) with buerre blanc. Delicious charcuterie/cheese platter and good wine. A thumbs up all around.
Go for their long cooked and well flavored stews like boeuf bourgingnon or coq au vin, or their freshly cooked fish. This time we made the mistake of choosing the roast chicken and the magret de canard, both of which have to be pre-cooked. the kitchen overcooks them, so the meats were dry. their desserts are always delicious
I love this place. I believe it is tremendously underrated. Ambiance, food and service are terrific. Very enjoyable place to dine for lunch or dinner.
A delightful experience! The food was delicious. We had a wonderful server. A wonderful restaurant to visit after taking in play at Center Stage.
I love this place. Low key, friendly, informal , very good food, great desserts. Diverse menu. Lite fare to very good entrees.
Excellent as usual. Great service. Beautiful surroundings.
We went to Marie Louise Bistro for a Sunday celebration of my husband's birthday. It was pretty quiet on a Sunday night, so if that's what you're looking for, it's a great spot. The feel is that of a French bistro (as it should be) and was true to form. The front of the restaurant is coffee and pastries, while the back is country French. The food was excellent. We had classic dishes: steak frites, duck breast and the 1/2 chicken. All were very well-prepared and presented. Our server was informative and attentive all the way until the very end, and I think he may have lost track of us for a bit. No worries, we finished our generous cappuccinos and pastries.
The front-end staff was really helpful in explaining the pastries while we browsed.
Great specials- the sea bass and the beef were great! Not good, but great! It was a quiet Saturday eve and not very busy. My wife and I
had a wonderful dining experience!
My husband and I had an excellent meal. We were greeted and seated right away, and our server was knowledgeable about the menu. The cocktails were tasty, and the food was overall very good, though my potatoes were not as hot as they should have been. Extensive dessert selections and very good taste. Would definitely eat there again.
Went on a Thursday night, the restaurant was only about half full and nice and quiet, though a little cold. The food was extremely good as were my wife's Sangria and their version of The Old Fashioned that I had. Our 11yr old daughter had the mussels which she loved and I started with the Escargot. Our main entree's (rockfish, seafood pasta, and coq au vin) were also very good and more than enough to fill up all but the biggest eaters. For those that like pastry's and deserts, the eclairs and creme brulee were great. The service was great and never hovering.
We had a great waiter and enjoyed the food and the drink immensely. The prices were a little higher than our normal fare, but certainly not outrageous.
Exceptional food and service. Greg was our waiter and made the evening very enjoyable.
Over priced for what you get. I ordered the duck and the fat was not rendered off properly and the sauce had no flavor the complimented the duck.
Really unimpressed and for the pricing, I would have expected the chef to actually know how to prepare food.
Server was flustered but overall attentive. Not really sure how this place got such favorable reviews.
We went for Restaurant Week and we're really excited abt the menu options. I ordered a filler and asked for them to butterfly it. When our steaks arrived my husband's steak was much larger than mine, which I didn't complain about. But it was not butterflied. When I asked abt it, the waiter didn't know what I was talking about, and I had to explain it to him. Long story short, the meat came out extra tough because they went and cut it, then put it back on the grill. Worst filet I've ever had. They made up for it though with the sides, appetizers, and desserts. The place was very busy and that may have contributed to the waiters lack of engagement or attention. When we asked for steak sauce, sugar for the tea, butter for the bread, they acted like it was a hassle. They only had 3 waiters (from what I could tell) and were overwhelmed. I would bet that the food and service is better on a night outside of restaurant week.
As a part of restuarant week my husband and i thought we would try French tonite. Marie Louise Bistro did not dissapoint. The atmosphere was romantic and calm. Our server Gregory was very entertaining, he was knowledgeable about the menu, which helped us to decide, he never rushed us, but gave us time to discuss what we wanted and when we did, he was right there to take our orders. The food was delicious and decadent. The portions were great. We were very satisfied. If not for restaurant week we have never known this gem existed. We will b back.
Another great meal. One of us ordered from the regular menu; the other from Restaurant week specials. No disappointments. Ronnie was an efficient server as always.
Great Food and Service was excellent!
Cute little place! Worth stopping by for at least a pastry up front.. lots of charm, yummy food, nice staff.
We went on New Years Eve and the food was excellent and cook to perfection. The service went out of their way to make our experience great. The restaurant was filled but not noisy so was good for conversation. Very nice experience.
Fantastic food and attentive service team. Very enjoyable dinner for 2.
The ambiance was perfect. I love natural brick walls in any restaurant. Our waiter was superb. I only wish my lamb burger had a pinch of seasoning & had not been cold. We were a large party and I realize they try to time the food to all be served together, but the timing perhaps caused hot food not to be so hot or not at all. Others had crab cakes and their comment was "it's okay". Recognizing that a French Bistro may not be the best at a good Maryland crab cake. One had a seafood pasta and would've preferred the sprinkled parmesan cheese on top been added upon request like fresh cracked pepper and not automatically. With everything taken in account I would be willing to give it another chance with maybe a party of 2 and hope for better food results.
Went for a quick dinner with a friend before a show. I had the Niçoise salad and found the tuna to be nicely cooked to medium rare and well seasoned. My friend enjoyed her turkey and roasted pepper sandwich; portion was very generous. I didn't love my cocktail and would stick to beer or wine next time. Prices seemed quite reasonable though I guess we did not have full entrees. Ten percent was taken off our check as they are partnered with Center Stage. We enjoyed ourselves and plan to return. Sad to have missed dessert as pastries looked incredible.
Very impressed with breakfasts, although web page says they start serving at 8:00 and they don't actually start until 9:00. Dinner very good -- both service and food quality. We asked for theater discount and our waiter was unaware -- later he suggested a discount less than what was agreed with theater. overall, we love this place and will return.
Our server Tiffany was very attentive and provided great service at the upstairs bar. Food was superb and great value! We came from Silver Spring for a concert at the Peabody. This is our go-to place before the theater/concerts. Would definitely recommend to friends.
I love your beef burgundy and have had it often. Unfortunately last Tuesday, the cubes of beef were really bad. The meat we had was almost entirely gristle and was actually gelatinous because there was so much fat. I know you have to watch costs, but I'd prefer having half as much beef if I had better quality. Gregory was a wonderful waiter and handled the problem nicely. I already have plans to return and truly hope you'll be able to correct this one weakness that we experienced in your lovely restaurant.
perfect last minute dinner before catching a late train. delicious dinner and we could hear ourselves plus wonderful pair of musicians playing jazz.
We enjoyed our Thanksgiving meal there and couldn’t have had a better time. Service was exceptional, friendly, professional and accommodating. And the pastries...oh the pastries! The fruit tart, the dark chocolate cake and the eclair were spot on. Skip the pineapple-coconut tart. But go for everything else.
Service was VERY SLOW. It was a holiday, but there were very few customers.
This bistro has very nice food and a wait staff that is attentive and pleasant. The food is authentic and apart from a bit of the wait from our oysters, the evening went smoothly. What could improve the place a bit is that the space is a bit cold and gives you no memories of a cozy French bistro, more of a Baltimore vibe that needs warmer lighting.
This is a very approachable restaurant with some interesting dishes from the Mediterranean region. The lamb two ways (appetizer) was probably the best dish of the night: tasty and well-prepared; the salmon carpaccio was delicious, but there were too many sun-dried cherries and that made the dish overly sweet. The bouillabaisse had muted flavors of fennel and saffron; the broth was more of a clam-based marinara sauce, good, but not what we expected. The bass with herb risotto was tasty, but a tad overcooked. As dessert, we had a pineapple tart that was really good.
