Excellent French Bistro food. Great meal!
The service sucked. The food was cold. We’re waited so long. Not a good experience.
My husband and I went here for the first time prior to a show at the Meyerhoff. It’s a nice walk from there. The service was OK, a bit slow getting our meal, but we got out in plenty of time to walk back for the show. The food was really outstanding. I had to duck confused, and my husband had a hanger steak. Both were absolutely delicious. I would definitely go back here.
We loved our brunch -- especially the low noise level so we could talk. The food was good (shrimp and grits, French toast, beet salad, etc .) and the people I was with generally loved the deserts. We were heading to a Baltimore Concert Opera performance at the Engineer's club, and this made a wonderful intro to the day.
It’s just a lovely restaurant. The cocktails, food and service were great. We especially love the food. I had striped bass over a bed of creamy risotto and fresh asparagus. It was outstanding!
Excellent food, very tasty french food. Enjoyed the French onion soup the most
The ambience and service of this place is perfect for a date or special occasion. For me it was a date (Valentine’s Day) and everything went perfect. Our server (I think his name was Andrew) was very nice and readily available. The food was FANTASTIC and the wine selection was really good as well. This will definitely not be my last time visiting!
Made reservations for Valentine's Day. Arrived a little early to find a line going out the door. They were running about half an hour behind with seating. While the hostess was very kind and apologetic, the owner tried to give us the table closest to the door that a large group of people were looming over, and when we said we'd prefer to wait for the next available table (since we'd already waited for like 20 minutes at that point), and the owner/manager got very visibly annoyed with us. (Not a single person waiting behind us wanted the table either.) The entire staff was running around in obvious distress as if they didn't know it was Valentine's Day on a Friday and were completely shocked at the crowd. When we were finally seated, they were out of almost everything we tried to order. We eventually made a selection and, after quite a while, our food came out with none of the sides that we ordered. Surprise! They were out of everything except potatoes and green beans. The substitutions were made without checking with us first. My dish was lukewarm at best. The server did his best with a very bad situation, but there was no discount for the long wait, the rudeness or the substitutions or the cold food. Won't be going back.
The worst meal I had in years. The trout was burnt, and tasted like Long John Silvers! Service was terrible.
The food was absolutely amazing! But it was Valentine's Day and they were very busy. We were seated at a table where the hostess and other diners were constantly bustling through and our waitress seemed a little too busy. I'd love to go back another time on a less busy night to enjoy the ambiance more.
Second time here and just as nice as the first. Service was perfect. Maryland crab soup seemed a bit too salty but the artichoke chicken was excellent. Noise level and distance between tables permitted private conversation with my friend. We were finished in one hour and able to make our show.
Husbands lamb was so undercooked it was blue. My hanger steak was unevenly cooked. I ordered medium rare and the end was medium well and the middle was medium. The potato gratin was like paste. Also disappointed in the desserts. His eclair was simply old.
We love the hanger steak and salmon. Always enjoy dinner there prior to the symphony.
Sometimes service is a little slow, but not last Friday! Great white source for muscles and wonderful warm bread.
Dinner with friends before Baltimore Symphony concert. Food and service outstanding, will return before next concert in less than 2 weeks.
My friend and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner here before the symphony. Food was delicious and the wait staff very attentive. Would highly recommend MarieLouise for a meal!
The food was really good and the offerings included a lot of real French dishes. Our waiter was also good, not intrusive but always there when we needed something. He made sure that we were served ion time for us to leave easily to get to the symphony concert we were attending.
Fantastic food! Service was slow, but that’s the culture of the restaurant so be prepared to take the evening slow. The dining area is fairly tight so if you have a large group nearby it might get loud. Overall though great restaurant.
Dinner before Baltimore Speakers Series. We sat in the mezzanine which is beautiful and quiet; lovely ambience. The food and service was great. It’s amazing more people don’t frequent this lovely restaurant.
A wonderful place to gather with friends for lunch or coffee and pastry and, they are open on Mondays! There is a restaurant week special menu but even without that, the prices are reasonable. A variety of selections on the menu ranging from soups and salads to entrees such as Coq Au Vin and Boeuf Bourginon.
Visited for Restaurant Week...and they were using the same dog eared menu from the summer. Presentation was unremarkable. Also interesting how we had to ask for the RW menu...it was not on the table.
Winter Restaurant Week menu was a perfectly prepared froi gras, pear and Gorgonzola salad, trout almandine, filet mignon, pistachio creme and tiramisu desserts. Service was excellent, attentive, not intrusive.
Very impressed, this is how restaurants are supposed to be. Went there for a prix fixe dinner during Baltimore's restaurant week. Three of us, one vegetarian. Had a lovely quiet meal together and really enjoyed the ambiance, service, drinks, and food. Deserts were to die for with a huge glass case of delectable patisserie to choose from. All of us satisfied and waddling when done. We each loved our dishes and traded amongst ourselves with no time pressure despite it being a Saturday evening and us slow, deliberative eaters. Recommended for dates but also family outings where it is nice to hear and enjoy one another in a relaxed atmosphere with loads of charm and sumptuous nourishment. We really enjoyed the local artwork on display as well. The place supports both casual and formal attire and feels very welcoming; it has a main floor and a cool upper balcony. No trouble finding parking (pay lot right across the street) but also on-street parking findable even on a Saturday night.
My only complaint ;I specified that it was a birthday dinner but no one seemed to care .
Very bad service. They claimed they were out of several food and drink items. I asked for bread for the stew and they were seemingly out of that as well. Servers didn't care at all.
Superb cocktails, food, and service!
New Year’s Eve dinner ... good place to have a conversation over tasty food.
We've had our Book Club Meeting at Marie Louise on several occasions and each time we have been satisfied with the service. The initial greeter was excellent and our servers were outstanding especially the young lady who continuously served us. Thank you!!
Great meal! Great service! Will go back , definitely.
The corner table near a closet was not ideal. The escargot was over powered by the mushrooms and sauce. The lamb was delicious. Unfortunately, they did not know how to make a French martini in a French restaurant. We probably won't go back.
I come here for the food—especially the seafood—and the martinis. I like the restaurant; I like the owner. I don't know the chef, but I certainly like what he prepares. The quality of food here deserves table cloths, better ambient lighting and more purposeful design: it is difficult to tell whether one has entered a cafe, a bar, or a diner. The rooms should be destinations deserving of the food, the quality of service and and the graciousness of the owner.
The service was amazing. They didn't have items listed on menu. Caesar salad had brown lettuce and dressing was lackluster. Entrees were meh- hanger steak sandwich grizzley. Overall, it could have been a great experience as everything you want in dining out was there except the food just wasn't that great.
Good food and service. Convenient to Centerstage Theater.
Loved the food and service. Unfortunately there was a very loud group near us but when asked waiter said we could move and it was much better
Fabulous food! Superb service! The delicious trout almandine was served with equally delicious risotto and asparagus. The duck salad consisted of mixed greens with goat cheese and crispy pieces of duck and a dressing that complemented all. Marie Louise Bistro has out of this world pastries to finish a perfect meal. The attentive server worked hard to make sure we were in time for our concert at the Meyerhoff.
Great ambience and food. It’s a shame more people don’t frequent this restaurant. We will definitely be back!
Really enjoyed steak night (Tuesdays). Choice of 1 of 2 steaks. Substituted the potato and assigned vegetable for double Brussels Sprouts. Also they have happy hour from 4-8 with discount on drinks and appetizers. The old bay wings were great! Also house wines only $5 during happy hour which were good too. Service great! Seen it busier in the past.
I had the special scallop entrée - delicious. Risotto was very good. My date had the duck salad and the lamb chops which he said were excellent. The seasonal pear salad was very fresh. We shared an oreo cheesecake dessert. I chose the 3-course menu for only $45. The dining area was intimate and diverse. Loved it. Will definitely return to try some French favorites which Marie Louise Bistro is known for.
The special pear salad was outstanding. The scallops and risotto were delicious, but the portion was unreasonably small for a main dish (3 not so big scallops). The chicken and artichokes is a reliable and consistent choice. The pistachio chocolate creme brulee was a nice finish to our meal. Our server upstairs was also the bartender, so the service was somewhat inattentive. The food took a long time to come out, probably because the kitchen wasn't quite equipped to deal with the Meyerhoff lecture series crowd.
The food at Marie Louise is usually very good. Not great, but very good. The puzzling thing about this restaurant is the slow service. This is especially so when there were only two tables with customers in the main dining area. A little bit frustrating. If you have tickets to Center Stage or any other show I would highly recommend telling the waitstaff immediately upon arriving. It's convenient to Center Stage and, as I wrote, the food is good, so I will be returning and hoping that the service improves.
I love this restaurant. Very good food. Lots of variety on the menu. Very nice staff. Great value. Everything just works. This restaurant deserves to be very popular.
