Mari Vanna DC
I love this restaurant! It's really a gem and very much reminds me of Russia. Authentic food, beautiful atmosphere, great service. I go as often as possible and recommend to anyone who is in DC.
Absolutely loved it!! Very authentic with awesome decor and atmosphere. Food was incredible.
The ambiance and decor at Mari Vanna is wonderful and so unique! You feel like you are truly in a family owned European cafe. The food was very good, service was prompt and our server who had recently arrived from the Ukraine, was adorable. We will definitely go again.
Mari Vanna is a feast for the stomach and senses! The entire place is gorgeous and the brunch was superb. As a note: Nearly all the seating downstairs is high top seating so if you have mobility issues please keep that in mind.
Excellent food. Waited awhile for someone to take the order.
The food and people are wonderful here. Haven’t been to another Russian restaurant in DC again after finding this one.
Great food and service -- they were very accommodating with a stroller
Very cute on the inside, great service and yummy food!
Great staff! Not crazy about the front corner window seat we had. Very tight seating and we had to listen to every incoming customer but a good view of the street. I American) enjoyed the lamb shashlik. Wife (Russian) thought Shuba wasn’t very fresh.
Attentive staff, cold beer, good cheese board. We left very full and satisfied. Overall good experience. We would return.
I really like this place. I have been here twice now and the atmosphere is lively and the food is great.
We met our guest who was already seated on the 3rd level since there was a special event on the 2nd. When hostess greeted us, she simply showed us the stairs without escorting us up. First level is really just a bar from what we could tell. Some high tops for seating, but definitely a rowdy, bar atmosphere not conducive to dining (or certainly not conversation). Specialty cocktails are $22, so we opted for a shot of infused vodka (very good) for $7 each. Wine prices, on the other hand, were quite reasonable. The dumpling appetizer we wanted took over 20 minutes to prepare, so we opted for a different one (which was quite tasty). Meals were ordinary and served at room temperature. I am guessing that was because they had to be delivered to the 3rd floor...Cherry dumplings for desert were delicious.
The quality of the pickled plate has dropped. The presentation and taste are not the same. Also they do not serve potato pancakes anymore
Always great. Excellent service. Beef stroganoff and borscht was fantastic. Fun place to be.
Steak is excellent
I love that place, and go there each time I get the opportunity - usually it's pre-theater dinner. The food is great, service is great as well - what more do you need? There is also live music (the guy with accordion comes around 7 pm), and, in case you care, nice selection of homemade vodka. I don't drink vodka at all, but I make an exception for theirs horseradish one.
The food was not fresh at all. We all felt sick afterwards. I like the interior decorations and the taste of the food but feeling sick is not fun.
Homey food for those with Russian in their blood. All the favorites. You could be in St. Petersburg with the accordionist playing.
The food js good and the place looks very nice
I try to go to Mari Vanna every time I visit DC. I have Slavic roots and I love their food - comforting, warm, delicious, reminds me of home and my family.
Service was outstanding. Very attentive and they had a nice chocolate surprise for my daughter’s birthday. The pelmeni was perfect. As good as any in Moscow. The blinis were also very good and would recommend them. The stroganoff was good but a bit more fresh dill would make the dish excellent.
Good beer and wine list.
Next time I look forward to some of the Georgian offerings.
TLDR: Fast service, delicious food, great ambiance
We loved this restaurant! The decor is warm and homey, and an accordian player occasionally comes around and plays for the patrons. Our waitress was attentive and the service was quick. The food... oh my goodness the food. We ordered the Pirozhki (4 rolls) as an appetizer and I think I could have eaten 30. I got the beef stroganoff with mashed potatoes which made my eyes tear up with happiness with the first few bites. We'd absolutely come here again.
Hostesses were fantastic. All spoke Russian and English . Food was just like if you were in Moscow. I'll go again.
Chicken Kiev was excellent. Beautiful decor.
My fav place in DC. The atmosphere is great and the restaurant is beautifully decorated.
Wonderful authentic Russian food in a relaxed setting with Old World charm! Our second time here and we will be back!
Fantastic food. I used to lived in Eastern Europe so I was looking for some nostalgia and the food hit the spot.
Great place to experience authentic Russian food. I brought my colleagues for business lunch, they enjoyed the food; many tried Russian for the first time. Highly recommend!
I'd recommend it with one caveat. The high top tables and chairs are really uncomfortable. For a short person like me, getting on and off the chairs is not a good experience. I'd recommend it have more traditional tables and chairs. That's what would keep me from coming back.
Love this place. A lot of traditional Russian meal. Live music is the best! Everything was good!
Great service Anastasiia was awesome and the food was authentic too cute old world cozy atmosphere
Good authentic food. We tought it's all just a Russian restaurant but they have food from the area. Have special events. Weekends dancing is on 4th floor
Great variety of foods from the region and super staff
This place is amazing- the food is so good, and they make their own flavored vodka. I love coming here.
I want to like this place so much but after two tries... I may just give up. Food is good, but not great. Some is yummy but overall impression is just so -so. Pricing is a bit high for the quality. The environment is awesome, such great decor. The staff are all very nice. Authentic vibe but again, maybe its just that Russian food is boring, but the food doesn't sell the place. Oh well
Wonderful atmosphere to go along with wonderful food! We had three appetizers before dinner so our friend could try a little of everything-she loved it all as we do! My favorite is the eggplant rolls! Oh my! The warm root salad is divine also! As was all our mains! And of course, even though we could barely fit it in, we shared a piece of Honey Cake-so good! A must-go when in DC!
The waitstaff was super kind but they messed up my father's order, then served us well-ahead of him. Then the sort of rushed to clear the table. That said the food was excellent.
Quite simply, the tops.
It was delicious! Food is great, drinks are unique!
