Excellent fresh Japanese food. The rock shrimp with spicy mayo was exceptional! I loved the shiitake mushroom soup with clear broth. The tuna and yellowtail Sushi was some of the best I’ve ever had.
They offer 20% off wine bottles on Monday and Tuesday nights. We cant wait to go back.
The restaurant was nearly empty which is a little unnerving and not that much fun. But the food was very good as were the drinks. Similarly service was slow considering we were one of two tables. It's very authentic but a little frustrating when you waitress speaks so little English that she doesn't recognize menu items. Anyway, it was fine and the food is very good!
There was only one guy working on Valentine's Day and he was obviously overwhelmed and not very friendly. I have been here a few times and it is always quiet/awkard. I keep going back b/c it's the only Chinese restaurant in downtown Wayne, but quite $ for the experience.
Valentines evening. restaurant not ready for how busy they were. wait staff too rushed to offer good service. upstairs room is tired - paper coming off walls at ceiling. food was ok
Went for Valentine’s Day dinner. The service was very slow, even though the restaurant didn’t seem too busy. The waitress had trouble understanding us. The appetizers came out at different times, and they brought the entrees out at different times, which was awkward. Only my daughter enjoyed her main course. Because of the communication gap, my wife received the wrong entree, but because it took so long, she ate it. She said it tasted like it came out of a microwave bag. And our waitress only came out to deliver something - we had to ask other servers to bring water refills. All in, it was two hours to get through the meal. We definitely won’t be going back.
This is a unique restaurant that will certainly leave an impression on the diner. It is a beautiful place and it is comfortable if one can secure one of the spacious tables at which the diner is not placed close to others. My wife and I were not so fortunate. Another two party that came in after us was given a spacious four table as they did not want to sit close to other tables. The gentleman who greets and seats the guests, whom I suspect is Mr. Kuo, is suave, kind, gentlemanly, welcoming, and he was attentive to us throughout the meal despite performing many functions. He made us feel welcome and appreciated. It is obvious that he is very proud of the traditions of this fine restaurant and all that it offers. We appreciated that he and other employees wished us Happy Valentines' Day for this February 14 meal. The diner receives a dish of peanuts and one of cucumber and peppers to start. I would rather have had the crispy noodles that some Chinese restaurants serve. We were interested only in the peanuts, which were tasty. The lady who took our order was not pleasant. Another server who took care of us after that was excellent: sweet, attentive, and kind. Prices are higher than those listed online and we were initially overcharged for our wine, the check reflecting a higher price than the menu. Our wine was the least expensive on the menu, $8 per glass, and the serving was small. The spring roll was tiny, but delicious. The noodle dish with beef and chicken was an ample serving and excellent. The Szechuan tofu, which was requested mild, was fiery hot. It was sent back. The replacement was still quite spicy, but better. Unlike most Chinese restaurants, there is no mild tofu dish on the menu. What we will remember most about our meal is the extraordinary hospitality offered by the host. One pays a premium to dine here, but in most respects, it is a superior and memorable experience.
We celebrated a special event with our daughter. It was wonderful. Food, service, staff.
Good food, but very poor service. The waitress clearly couldn’t have cared less.
The food and service we received as we celebrated my birthday and the Chinese New Year was truly exceptional, making for a festive and special evening for us. Thank you so much!
Great food, but the service was lacking. Our server was perpetually confused and seemed ill at ease. Maybe she's not a regular. But the food was very slow in coming, which is something of an ongoing issue there. As much as we like the food, we rarely get takeout there because it invariably takes far longer to make than at other restaurants, and even longer then their estimates.
it was Christmas Day and they were not prepared for the number of guests. The wait was very long and the service was fair to poor. Again they were not prepared for the huge crowd
Best shrimp fried rice in the tri state. Delicious authentic Chinese cuisine.
Overbooked. Couldn’t seat us. Rude.
Christmas dinner. Food was excellent. Very crowded but service was great considering that the restaurant was packed. We were there for a birthday celebration that happened to fall on Christmas. Recommend anytime. Very professional and organized being the busiest day of the year for a Chinese restaurant.
We always enjoy our meals at Margaret Kuo's. We especially like to sit upstairs in the Wayne restaurant which is pretty and restful. Food is delicious, service always is friendly, and there is a nice wine selection. We often select from both the Japanese and Chinese menus.
Margaret Kuo's is top notch Chinese on the mainline. Only complaint is ordering a cocktail there is an adventure. The waiters don't really have a feel for cocktails so it's hard to get them made "just right."
This is a very lovely restaurant, a short walk from the movie theatre. The food was delicious and elegantly presented. The mushroom soup for two may well have been the best tasting soup I ever tried at a Chinese restaurant. I will get it again. The crispy whole fish was also the best I ever had. Although I have been to China four times, another person at our table goes four times every year. He also raced about the food.
Except for SuGa in town, Margaret Kuo is the best Asian restaurant in a region filled with creative and beautiful Asian restaurants. Try it. You’ll like it.
Margaret Kuo’s is one of our favorite places to eat. The Peking duck melts in your mouth and is extremely tender. Three out of four of us have Celiac and require a gluten free meal. They have gluten free soy sauce and can pretty much make any entree gluten free. I had The general tso’s chicken and it was AMAZING!! So nice to be able to eat Chinese food again!
Great food, excellent service, wonderful ambience. I've been a patron of Margaret's restaurants since she first opened Peking, I believe in the 1970s. I've dined at her Lima, Malvern, and Media locations. But I have to say, her Wayne restaurant is the jewel in her crown. The fare is incredible, and the upstairs dining area, done in Japanese decor, is gorgeous. I would recommend this place highly.
This was my first time at Margaret Kuo's. I set it up so that myself and my two girl friends could meet for dinner. It is nice and quiet so that we were able to have a nice conversation. Staff was very solicitious. Always asking if we needed anything else. Our food was delicious. We started our meal sharing the lobster spring roll- (we ordered two for the three of us)and the shrimp dumplings with soy sauce for dipping. We all had different entrees and everybody was pleased. I ordered the shrimp which came in a brown sauce and it was cooked perfectly.
I will return.
Was a disapointing experience.....appetizers were fabulous, but the entrees nnot so much.
Fish was worn out, over cooked and flavorless. The sauce did not complement it.
The tuna was ok. I have been here before and it was great! I don't know what happened...they were'nt busy at all.
I hope they improve, it's such a lovely place.
Peking duck is special; never failed us in over 20 tries;
Other standards like General Tso chicken are above average.
Lion head meatball great comfort food to take home.
Open face steamed dumplings great appetizer;
Wine list is excellent and the mark up is less than in other restaurants.
Service is excellent; helpful, often anticipatory.
The food is consistently good.
Great ambiance on the 2nd floor.
As always, everything was wonderful. The food was delicious, and we enjoyed every minute of our dinner!
5 Star dinner in a relaxed atmosphere allowing an unhurried evening with out of town relatives. Food and service over the top. Will recommend and will return
Great food, especially the Peking Duck. Also had White Tea which was excellent compliment to overall meal.
Great service, greeted and sat immediately. Maitre d and waiter checked on us, but not so much as to interfere with enjoying our meal.
Quiet atmosphere where you can actually have a pleasant conversation with your dinner companions.
Ive been here with family, friends and business associates.
What a lovely and special dinner! We went to celebrate a birthday, and I think every member of the staff must have come to wish me a happy day. I had asked for a quiet table, and we have a perfect corner booth, upstairs, that was perfect for conversation. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed such quiet in a restaurant! We started with rock shrimp tempura, which was fabulous, and my sister had the black sesame tuna with ginger sauce which was gorgeous and delicious! I had the wild salmon teriyaki, which was divine! They even brought us a wonderful gelato, on the house, and sang Happy Birthday! It was a marvelous meal and a genuinely touching effort on their part! Go, you will love Margaret Kuo's!
Not your average Asian food! The imperial shrimp was a nice change up from my usual spicy beef and shrimp - great recommendation from the server
When Susanna Fu closed I went into a deep depression, but then a friend turned me on to Margaret Kuo, which, amazingly, is just down the road. MK is terrific, two lovely dining rooms (one Chinese, one Japanese), Mr. Kuo presiding over everything. We were almost the only non-Asians in the restaurant (we ate early), which is always a good sign.
The food at Margaret Kuo's is fresh, beautifully prepared, and the sauces are simply delicious. My shrimp tempura was the best I have had. My lunch companion reported that her beef stew was amazing. The attention to each and every detail of a fine dining experience is obvious at every turn, and greatly appreciated.
Waiter did not understand some of our questions, made it a bit of a challenge.
Service was terrible, took nearly 40 minutes to order. Food was great as usual.
As usual food was outstanding. Best Chinese food on the planet.
The dining room was attractive, but there were no Asian diners--and I understood the reason after we tasted the food. The preparations have been modified for unadventurous American tastes. Although the ambiance was rather elegant, the service was surprising inexpert. Portions were small compared to what we have experienced at other Chinese restaurants in our region. We like good Chinese cuisine, and overall we were disappointed.
Food was outstanding and the courteous, attentive service made us feel at home and well-advised. The surroundings are elegant without being stuffy. I look forward to going again.
The place had a nice ambiance and the owners are very nice! Quiet graduation lunch for us with a very nice authentic chinese menu. The spicy wasn't so much and I could have used the authentic hotness for the dish I chose but it was delicious! All in all a great restaurant with incredible authentic Chinese menu and quiet comfortable atmosphere!
Congrats Margaret Kui's on 15 years! We went for a quick dinner with our daughter. Great food, great jasmine tea, husband had sea bass fullfilet,I had shrimp and verges, our daughter had shanghai noodles with verges. Overall great quality and delicious!
The food was good. I had the braised duck and it was very good. My wife had a seafood dish that was ok. The service was poor as we did not get water or checked on for 10 min after being seated. Throughout the meal it was as if the server forgot about us.
Professional, courteous, delicious, what else is there to say? One of the best restaurants in the area, and one of the most reasonably priced, too. A reputation well earned.
