This is a throwback to the era of relish trays on the table, of celery, radishes, etc., and of rather plain straightforward food. Everything was tasty. There is one set menu, with no choices. Five courses. All you get to choose is the wine. We went with low expectations, so were pleasantly surprised. On a cold Saturday in February the place was very quiet, but the lone waiter said in the summer, when the back terrace is open, they get more people. I would recommend this if you want to feel as though it is the 1950s.

The waiter was rude. None of the course menu tasted good.
You have to be ready to eat raw vegetables without dressing.

As a Christmas eve tradition, we love Marchi's we come every year. It is decorated for the holidays, and the food is always the same, and always tasty. We recommend this restaurant for any occasion or just for a lovely quiet dinner.

Lovely restaurant and attentive waiter. I feel that the menu could use some updating. The food was very good but I don't think that I would go back.

Absolutely amazing high quality food with unique side dishes. Very accommodating. Went to celebrate my fathers 83rd birthday and they were just absolutely wonderful to him! The waiter Pete was outstanding! Would absolutely recommend!

Stepping into Marchi’s is like stepping back in time. The multicourse meal is served family style. Seasoning is sparse and clean. Service is exceptional. The food is delicious. If you care about well-prepared, Extremely fresh and elegantly served dinners you will be very happy here.

Celebrated a 25th and a 30th wedding anniversary and an 89 year young birthday with three generations of family and friends. Marchi’s was PERFECT. The many course meal tasted special yet homey; very fresh ingredients. The service was perfect: attentive, professional, but really friendly. We had a truly special and wonderful evening.

I have been going to Marchi’s for over 50 years and have never been disappointed. Just come on in with an appetite and just enjoy because the menu is set . The biggest decision you have to make is what kind of wine would you prefer .

I never leave reviews but this meal was so great that I felt I had to leave one. The service was impeccable, the food was amazing; there’s simply nothing bad to say. Every bit of food was so fresh and wonderful. It was 5 courses for $60ish dollars each and despite that, I didn’t feel grossly full at all. Everything was healthy yet delicious. Definitely going back.

We have been coming here for 40 yrs. Service and food are always fabulous. If I had an Italian grandmother it would be like going to her house. It’s our special place whenever we’re in NYC.

Marchi's is an institution and lives off its reputation. The 1930s style allows for a red decor that anywhere else would have long gone and the absence of a bar area and the slow initial service means this is no cocktail place.

The food is basic Italian, but very well done. There a few salads scattered through the meal, limiting the amount of cooking that needs to be done to serve five courses to a number of large tables. First course was a plate of raw vegetables and dessert, hugely disappointing given the wide range of potential Italian options, a fruit bowl and pastry. Judging by earlier reviews, this latter option is unchanged in over a decade.

The restaurant is a favorite of regulars and so, if you are not one, be prepared to be passed over, even after you have asked specifically for things, such as more drinks. Some will revel in the long lunches and the old fashioned styling , but know what you are getting.

There was one table of 3 people when we got to the restaurant. The rest of the restaurant was empty and remained empty. We were placed at a table next to the other occupants. Really?

I’m not used to eating lasagna without red sauce. I guess it’s northern Italian. I didn’t like it. The rest of the meal was ok. Fish was good. It fried. I would’ve preferred more vegetables. The beans were good but the beets tasted like they cane out if a can. Our waiter was quick to serve family style and any leftover food took away. I mean they give you a lot of food but I only ate what I liked so I would’ve preferred he not be so hasty removing any additional food left over after serving.

The dessert of fried dough in powdered sugar or ribbons of dough was delicious.

Honestly I think they do a big tourist lunch and should probably close for dinner. I felt like I was imposing there.

Won’t go back or recommend.

Sucked.

Literally went here for my anniversary with my beloved gf and the food sucked.

You'll leave full and feeling like you'll never neeed to eat again. Five courses will do that to you. But legit, you can get better food anywhere else.

Total food + experience worth $60 per person? No. Absolutely not.

Positive part was that service was great and fast.

Once a grand old lady, she's now become tired -- even with a little musty odor. It's such a unique restaurant and the food remains good, with lesser portions. I particularly missed the deboning of the fish -- it's now a portion of deep fried fish. Also, a jacket is no longer required. Sad, but I guess it's another sign of the times. The owners remain very gracious (and have aged better).

True authentic Italian. Our family has been going there for over 40 years. Was quiet for a Saturday night but everything was delicious and it's a pleasure to be able to talk to one another without having to shout, as is the case in so many places these days. This restaurant is old world and we hope it never changes.

We have been to Marchi's a number of times, typically for special occasions -- birthdays, anniversaries -- or when we have had special friends from out of town visiting. This is a hidden gem. The fixed five-course menu is just perfect. They have a wonderful selection of wines both by the bottle and by the glass.

Third time here in 22 years - this is a place for special occasions - the menu is rigidly set but everything was tasty and portion size was more than adequate . If you go with expectations of fancy cocktails and choosing what you want to eat , then this is not your place . If you want a traditional meal well prepared go to Marchis and enjoy . We were concerned about their popularity it was a Friday night and the place was empty . We had been here many years ago when it was a busy bustling restaurant - hope they are still generating enough business to remain a fixture in the neighborhood

We have visited Marchi's several times over the last two decades and in many ways it has improved with age. The food is incredibly fresh - and starting dinner with this enormous platter of fresh melons and veggies is simply lovely. The service is super and although I forgot to inform them that one of our guests was a vegetarian, they jumped right in and cooked something appropriate just for her without complaint. The perfect thing about Marchi's is that one sitting dining means you can enjoy a leisurely dinner, chat with friends without screaming over the person next to you, and if the weather cooperates, dine outdoors with barely an ambient noise. We had to cancel a previous reservation because my husband took ill suddenly; I had ordered a special cake and a table for eight. They cancelled with nothing more than we hope he is okay and refused to let me pay for the cake I had ordered. A class act all the way.

Marchi's is unique with its no-menu dining; The same

visit was that it all felt fresh, new and of course, tasty
The folks there are lovely.

Marchi's is a staple in Manhattan and many have come to love it over the years. The food still holds up and the presentation is memorable. Outside dining is nice enough, so, no complaints there.
Walking through the dining room to get to the outdoor dining is enough to make you want turn around and go somewhere else. It's not the long walk to the back, it is the awful smell of Mildew. It can't possibly be healthy for people with respiratory issues. the decor is beyond tired, it is downright sleepy.

For such a successful restaurant with serious staying power, not to renovate and update is shocking. A face lift would really attract the younger crowds that haven't had the experience.

It will be a long time before we return if at all. Shame...

Marchi's is all about tradition and a dining experience that needs reviving. Family-owned for generations, it serves a set menu of five courses (officially, but actually more like eight or nine when you count up the various side dishes). The wine list is reasonable, meaning that you can get something with a little age on it and not pay a historic price. For me it is the nostalgia of revisiting a place where my parents held their wedding reception.

We like the traditional meal. It's evident from the clientele that the tradition is dying literally. Soon Marchi's will also. They would benefit from introducing menu options including fewer courses and a good interior makeover. The exterior is marvelous, appealing space that could be leveraged to attract a younger crowd for socializing, drinks and light fare. No reason why modernizing while keeping the tradition can't work.
