Marché Moderne Ratings and Reviews
A fabulous time from start to finish! Our first return since the move. From the moment we walked in and saw familiar faces we were treated like royalty. The menu is all you have come to expect from this fine establishment and so much more! All the classic dishes are back. But there are many new small plates and specials too! We can’t wait to come back.
This was my first visit to the new location and I went there to celebrate my birthday. I thought the food was great, although the portion of the Duck Confit was a bit small for dinner. Overall, everything was great, but I was disappointed that the wine we brought was not opened immediately so that it could breathe (despite my request that the waiter do so). It took him quite a while to open it so by the time it did fully breathe, we were down to our last few sips. If a restaurant is going to charge $35 as a corkage fee, then I feel there should be proper service to go along with that fee. It simply wasn't there. Everything else was good though, so I would try it again...just not with an expensive bottle of wine from home!!
The South Coast location was much better for everything including the food, ambiance, service. The service seemed rushed with them taking plate even as we were eating. The bread was definitely not as good with no selection. The noise level moderate and not cozy at all. Food was definitely not as outstanding as before. Unfortunately will live on its laurels from before sadly. Hope they upgrade food especially to previous level!!??
My wife and I have dined at this restaurant on numerous occasions when it was located in Costa Mesa. All of our meals were outstanding. In the new place the food is still exquisite especially the duck breast and the veal cheek. I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys great food at moderate prices. It is a little expensive but well worth the money.
We have dined at Marche Moderne for many years. This was our first time at its new location. Our charcuterie selections (pig, foie gras) were excellent. The salad (chopped) was fine but not noteworthy. Our entrees (duck, lamb) were flavorful but, in our opinion, oversauced. Desserts (cheese, gateau breton) were tasty. Wait service started out well but flagged toward the end of the meal. We dined on a Monday night and it was noisy.
Had early dinner. Seated immediately, our waiter was Scott, who provided excellent service. The food was excellent, perfectly prepared and presented. Each had a different salad, one was the Asian pear, delicious! My wife had the heart of Palm also delicious, but a bit heavy due to added cheese.
I had the special fish, sole, it was marvelous my wife had
The hanger steak was delicious and tender served with fries and green salad.
All in all, nice early evening.
Our first visit to their new location in Crystal Cove Shopping Center. Absolutely surpassed our expectations. The new restaurant has so many unique vignettes where you can dine. We asked our waiter, John, to 'take care of us' And he did! Chef Florent's menu compositions were delightful. And, Amelia greeted us making us feel so welcome. Already looking forward to our return visit!
This is a wonderful restaurant but I feel is a little overpriced. That’s because it’s exclusive and in the best location in Newport Beach. That said be careful or you will miss out on customers going elsewhere for the same food for less money. The example I would use would be to compare the salmon dish I had which was nice but a little fussy and compare it to the Gulfstream equivalent and Gulfstream wins for value for money and great ambience. I will go again with my wife as a special occasion but I don’t like being overcharged for food and drink.
The service here was awesome so enjoyed the dinner overall.
$35 corkage fee is pretty high. Bread basket fairly nice. Salmon and caviar appetizer was good. The salad with pear, candied walnuts and bib lettuce was absolutely delicious!!!
The main courses were so-so! Banger steak with a giant pile of fries made me think I was dining at Norms or Denny’s! The meat was drowning in sauce. They did remove it from the bill which was very nice. The Black Sea Bass was fishy tasting and also in too much sauce.
Our waitress was great!
Will come back but order something different for main course.
Will come back
Marche Moderne seems to spend a good deal of its energy on pretention; energy that would be better spent on refining its service into something more than “Orange County Chic.”
The food was decent but not singular or even especially cohesive. The service was bumbling.
It was an unbelievable experience. The Beet salad was not only delicious but an artistic masterpiece. My fish was tender and flaky and my son's pork was cooked to perfection. We enjoyed the Foie Gras, Octopus salad, and just about everything else. Desserts were out of this world, especially the Napoleon. The service was excellent and the atmosphere relaxing. We're coming back for the Valentine's Tasting Menu. Can't wait!
When we first arrived on time for our reservation our table wasn’t ready and it took another 20 to 25 minutes to get a table. One couple in our party had arrived and was sitting at the bar looking at the wine list, when we got there we decided to order a bottle of champagne. The bar tender who was decidedly inattentive had to “unlock” the menu (IPad) so we could see the bottles. I really don’t like the IPad thing in restaurants. We ended up with a table outside which was fine with me but some of our party was on the cold side, however, there was a large party inside that were quite loud. So I was glad to be able to talk. After that bit of a rough start the service at the table was perfect and the food is fabulous. I believe this is the best restaurant in Laguna Beach now.
This was our first time at the new location and we were very excited to be there. Very beautiful. Started with two delicious appetizers of salmon and hamachi. Mid course was foie gras and a salad. Each very nicely done. Our friends shared the veal and loved it. We tried the pork and the cod. They were okay. Would not order those again which is a first for us at this restaurant. Usually love everything we taste. It was still a very nice evening and we look forward to trying it again. Service was always wonderful and it still is.
This was my first experience at Marché Moderne so I can only comment on this one trip. But if it is any indication, then future dining here will be fantastic. The food from start to finish was fabulous and the service was attentive. I sat outside and with the space heaters, it was perfect. Inside was way noisier. I cannot say enough good things about this place and I look forward to exploring more of the menu in the future! Bravo!
Saturday was our first visit to Marche Moderne. The food was outstanding. Every dish was a little unique and the flavors never ended. Simply amazing food. The service was excellent. Our server, Michael, was never intrusive but always there when you wanted him to be. And, he thoroughly knew the menu and wine list and gave excellent advice. The rest of the staff was also very attentive and timely. The restaurant was packed at 6:30 when we arrived, not an empty seat in the house and it was that way when we left two hours later. Good luck getting in without a reservation. Our one and only complaint is that it is incredibly loud. So loud that a normal conversation is impossible. But, even with the noise level being a problem, it was an excellent experience. We'll definitely be back. We highly recommend Marche Moderne.
From the moment we walked in we knew it was going to be a wonderful evening. The initial greeting was warm and sincere. We ordered our cocktails and after the first sip we knew we'd come to a special place. After that, all fell into place. The starters were excellent as were the entrees. The coq au vin was tender and moist and delicious. Couldn't have had a better experience.
The Marneaus continue to surprise with exquisite tastes. The duck breast with amaretto is a treat not to be missed, as is the memorable scallops with hash. Mrs. M's fanciful napoleons ( a different flavor every weekend) offer multiple wonderful tastes in one dessert,
