Marché Moderne Ratings and Reviews
The chefs Marneau continue to surprise and satisfy with old favorites and exquisite new taste treats. The Asian pear salad is bursting with a number of delicate flavors. The smoked duck breast is moist, tender, of course, with a bit of smoke flavor. Mrs. Marneau infallibly delivers new melt -in -your -mouth versions of the napoleon. The service is polished, thoughtful, and friendly from the chef owners, to Norma’s amazing knowledge and choices of wine, to Lorissa’s unsurpassed table service, anticipating every need, and attentive to making the dining experience outstanding.
We held Marche out as our longtime personal favorite OC restaurant when they were in South Coast Plaza. The Marneaus have taken it up a notch in their beautifully designed and decorated new home at Crystal Cove where diners can watch the busy and efficient kitchen where their masterpieces are created.
Have been a number of times going back to their original location in South Coast Plaza and I am never disappointed. Great new menu, beautiful ambiance and terrific service. Don't miss the Coq Au Vin, mussels and french fries. Have tried many other items on the menu and have always loved what I ordered.
As the name suggests, this is a French restaurant, recently installed near Crystal Cove State Beach. It was recently reviewed by LA Times food critic Jonathan Gold, and I would say he feted Marché Moderne with praise. Among the outstanding dishes he mentioned was the hanger steak and frites. Since I seldom eat steak, I decided to go for that. I thought it was good but I would not rave about it, though I do appreciate that it came nicely sliced for easy eating. The desserts were excellent.
Another excellent experience at Marche Moderne. This was my fourth visit and each time I try a new entrée. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and it was delicious - very moist, flavorful and perfectly cooked! As always, I started with the Hamachi sashimi which was again...out of this world! I am always wowed by the jalapeño sorbet that blends with the Hamachi beautifully! I look forward to more great meals here in the future!
From the moment we arrived, it was obvious Marche Moderne was going to exceed our expectations. Oscar was our waiter for the evening; have no doubt, we was beyond stellar. He guided us through the extraordinary menu and every selection from the menu was absolutely superb. My wife is from France and is a very tough customer when it comes to French food; she was completely won over by the food, the service and the ambiance of Marche Moderne. It was our ninth anniversary and the Chef prepared a wonderful desert for our enjoyment. Our evening at Marche Moderne went beyond a meal....it was a most memorable event. Rest assured, we will return in the near future. Merci!
My daughter was here when it first opened and was disappointed with the service. When she returned with us, she enjoyed the service as we all did. Lorissa was our server and we were so well taken care of. She was so friendly and provided wonderful suggestions for appetizers and entrees and, of course, dessert, which she knew we would share. To finish up our perfect evening, she brought two birthday celebration plates. We'll be back!
We love great food and creative cuisine and Marche Moderne has it all. My wife and I shared the steak tartare American style (with sunny side up egg)...the best ever. Also shared a pear based salad special...great salad with wonderful dressing. We also shared the Re-Visited" Braised Veal & Lobster Blanquette ...another creative and outstanding dish. Even though we were full we felt that we had to at least sample one of the desserts because everything had been so good. We had the apple tart with whipped and sea salted ice cream...another yum. Added to this was excellent service , which was the perfect blend of friendly, attentive and efficient. We never felt rushed and the timing of our service was spot on. We also enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the general up vibe the place has.
I have eaten at the Marche Moderne at South Coast Plaza. I felt it was intimate, with personal attention and excellent cuisine.
This larger restaurant does not duplicate that environment.
The food was very good, but my stew with veal and lobster was only mediocre in my opinion.
The sauce needed more flavor, and waitress should have told me it is cream based; I do not like cream based dishes.
Everything else was excelleny, including drinks( the elderberry was fantastic) salads, breads, deserts, service, and the waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and wines.
Thank you for reading my notes.
We eagerly awaited the opening of Marche Moderne in its new Crystal Cove location and it did not disappoint. The food was superb and beautifully presented. The Key Lime Baked Alaska was melt-in-your-mouth delicious and the perfect ending to a memorable meal.
Just exemplary! If you are looking for a high end, incredible food, excellent service - this is your place.
The Spanish octopus salad is simply the best I've had - even when in Spain!! The tuna tartar was phenomenal.
As an entree I had the rabbit -wonderful
The corkage fee is steep - $35/bottle. But if you are taking an amazing bottle, its worth it.
Dinner for 4 with 4 bottles of wine we brought was approx $440. Worth every penny!! Cant wait to go back!!!
A first rate experience start to finish. Terrific menu, very gourmet. Expensive, but not brutal. Last, but far from least, was the service. Our server was bright, cheerful, helpful, knowledgeable and very attentive without being the slightest bit pushy or intrusive. I wish I could remember her name so that I could ask for one of her tables next time (and there will be a next time).
