Early bird wasn't an option, but the $19.25 price point from 5pm-6:30pm is what I'd recommend. I'm told its a three course meal that changes daily. Otherwise, priced very high for what you get. Better restaurants in the area for less with people watching & ambiance.
Disappointing! For 20 years we have celebrated the new year with a luncheon at The Vinoy. Unfortunately for the 1st times this was TOTAL failure. The menu had been considerably reduced from the past years. I ordered a bloody Mary. It took a long time to get it and they said they HAD to go find bloody Mary mix. When it came, it was without celery or olives. They said they were out of celery? We ordered a glass of chardonnay and the pour was less than a third glass. I ordered the lobster bisque and it was cold. When it came back from being warmed up, it was still cold. I refused it! The luncheon salad had croutons so hard they were inedible. We asked for the dessert menu and it also was small in selection. My friend ordered a pistachio dessert and it was embarrassingly scant. The past years the desserts have been sumptuous. Upon this we summoned the manager and stated our dissatisfaction with our lunch. They took off our wine. Something has changed to the detriment of this wonderful historical hotel dining experience!
Joined another couple for a delightful evening including dinner. The dining room is lovely with a central bar surrounded by table seating. Our server was informative, helpful in choosing meal courses and attentive without being intrusive. The lobster bisque was superb as was an 18 oz bone-in ribeye. The steak was the “Prime”, the evening meat special. The steak was perfectly cooked, tender, flavorful and served over risotto. A tenderloin was enjoyable as well. However, it arrived with a baked potato without any accompanying items such as butter, sour cream, etc. Their arrival took an excessive amount of time. Dinner salads accompanied by grilled shrimp were also good
Overall a very enjoyable dining experience. The only negatives were the delay in bringing the accompaniments for a baked potato and some noise from the bar patrons.
Would return for fine dining in an elegant setting.
Everyone pulled out the stops for our anniversary after I noted it on OpenTable, first time that's ever worked! Menu is limited, but everything was delicious and carefully prepared. Aziz, our server, was amazing and made us feel as special as we did for our wedding. The historic ambience is just icing on the cake. If you're not staying at the hotel, take some time to check out the lobby and tiny museum.
This was our second time dining at Marchand's. For the second time I found it lacking both in selections and inspiration. The pretzel appetizer could be improved with a selection of homemade dipping sauces. The out-of-a-bottle mustard, Bleu cheese and pimento were disappointing. My wife asked the waiter his preference for the entre between the scallops and another selection. He recommended the scallops. It was an unusual pairing of scallops and a bed of greens and pulled pork. The dish was so salty that it was inedible. The waiter was gracious in taking the dish back. We thought it strange, however, that he said he had told the chef earlier in the evening that the scallop dish was salty. It begs the question 'why would you recommend something you knew was not up to par'?He replaced the scallops with a salad. The salad was literally drenched in oil. It was not eaten and taken removed from the bill.
The burger was forgettable. Burned bacon and a hard patty of ground beef. The fries were cold and not crisp.
Marchand's needs some help in the kitchen...
We had another delightful dinner. We asked and were served by Olivia. She’s so helpful and friendly. She brought me a special desert to celebrate my birthday. We also had the pleasure of meeting Angel. She makes the best cosmopolitan that I’ve ever had. It was a wonderful way to celebrate my birthday and I thank my husband and the staff of the Marchand. I highly recommend the house Cabernet.
It was our first time going to the Vinoy and were happy with the vintage atmosphere and live pianist. The food was very good and priced as would be expected. I had the salmon spread and the pot roast.
My one suggestion is to improve the service. Our server had to pull out a cheat sheet to offer us the one special (the other special was already sold out for a 7:30 reservation) and he was slow to bring drinks / water.
I guess another negative was some people at the bar watching college football treating the space like they would a sports bar.
For the first time ever, we were disappointed in the "1925" menu at Marchand's. I have written for other sites what a deal the 1925 menu is--excellent food at fast-food prices. . . and in a luxury setting. What is not to love? But this visit was a disappointment, as the menu on the website does not reflect the menu we were served. Instead of bbq ribs we had read about, we were served a pot roast that was inedible. The beef was cooked until it was grey and tough--but not long enough to be tender. It reminded me far more of what my mother used to serve in the 1950s than the gourmet meal I am used to at Marchand's. The salmon was better than the pot roast (which is not exactly saying much) but it, too, was over-cooked until it was tough to cut (and salmon, tough to cut?). Has something happened with the kitchen? Something has certainly happened with IT help, as the menu promised (and the incorrect menu is still up) is not the menu that we were handed.
We went to the Sunday brunch to celebrate our birthdays. Our waiter - Jack - did a great job and shared a little Vinoy history with us. The Vinoy is a beautiful old hotel in downtown St Petersburg and it also has a modoern side with new rooms, etc. We thought the food offered on the buffet was a little sparse but what there was was tasty. We also got champagne with our brunch which was very good.
We went to Marchand's for our wedding anniversary dinner. It was even better than we expected. Loved our server, Olivia and Angel makes the best cosmos I've had anywhere. The house Cabernet was excellent, too. Atmosphere and hotel decor were wonderful. Highly recommend!
We decided to spend our anniversary at the Vinoy Renaissance and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the breakfast and dinner we had at Marchand's. The Cuban and Southern menu options were excellent and our servers were genial and personable. We loved the special anniversary desserts that were made for us, and we would definitely recommend Marchand's for celebrating any special occasion!
We went to try Marchard's prix-fixe menu. It was a great value. We had the lobster bisque, a dinner salad, pot roast and salmon, plus desserts -- creme brûlée and a chocolate brownie concoction, along with three glasses of wine. Everything delicious and served graciously in a beautiful dining room overlooking St. Pete's marina. With tax and tip, $85. In New York City, this meal is easily twice the price. My only complaint: On the restaurant's web site, the menu was listed as "pre-fix."
We went back to Marchand's at the Vinoy expecting a very high priced buffet with some good options that were almost worth it. However the Sunday buffet was a glorified Marriott style breakfast buffet. We found out that the expensive brunch is only run for the "Holidays". Really it is from November to June for the snowbirds. How sad. The rest of this disappointment came in the form of carton style scrambled eggs, only lamb on the carving station, only turkey sausage, and the absolute worst omelet station. This person could not make quality omeletes in any reasonable time period. She would forget ingredients and blame it on someone else. They were always flying apart and regular over eggs were mangled. The "experience" took forever. She said she was sick and was overheated. The Vinoy management was nowhere to be seen. Our waitress, Jessi was excellent. Very attentive and helpful.
Fabulous. Wonderful. Delightful. I could give many more positive adjectives to describe brunch at Marchand's. This has got to be the best deal in St. Pete. Gorgeous hotel with impeccable service and delicious buffet options. We wished we lived close so we could enjoy it every weekend.
Service was very polite, even deferential. But it was very slow even though the restaurant was not very busy on a Friday evening.
If you are staying at the Vinoy, it's a convenient and pleasant choice. But I would not go out of my way unless you are a fan of the band (which was good).
I know our waiter tried(ish) but the service was awful. Just awful. When we did see him he forget anything we told him. We ordered drinks, they came out completely wrong. All the other tables had their signature basket of breads. We (table of 12) had none. And we didn't want to ask for fear of what we would be brought! It was the company that made the night good, but the service was incredibly disappointing. Which is sad because my family and I are members and the family we were eating with just joined that week! This was their first meal. Marchands messed up😕
