The server was not friendly, bordering rude. Did not explain the restaurant did not try to explain or encourage us to try appetizers or anything. I asked for a variation on a entree she looked at me like I was crazy and said I doubt the chef would make pasta with just olive oil instead of a tomato sauce. I travel extensively and eat at many nice restaurants , never has this happened. By the way the chef had no issues doing this. The food was not just good - but outstanding!!! Too bad server was poor or this was a 5 star night . Would have been nice if a manager was greeting tables , I would have spoken up.
This is my favorite place to go for Italian. Chef Marcellino always prepares an amazing meal. I recommend his specials. Very unique. You will wish you found this place sooner.
Absolutely amazing and authentic food. You will think you are in Italy. Paula was fantastic and I will give it a ten!!! Will definitely go back when we return.
The food was not worth the price as nothing stood out and made you think, "wow, this is fine dining." Girlfriend has made dishes at home that taste much, much better. I'm sure people enjoy the food, but it simply did not stand out as fantastic Italian cuisine. It was, in fact, very bland.
The "sheet" that drapes on the ceiling is pretty gross. My date and I almost requested moving our seat outside because it just seemed dirty and unwashed. We felt bad leaving our waiter, though, as we had already ordered.
It's absolutely wonderful and seriously expensive pasta. It just adds up quick with apps, drinks and wine, so we don't go often.
That said we do love it.
Great as always
We have loved Marcellino and the food was always outstanding. In fact, it had been our favorite Scottsdale restaurant. This time, however, our experience was different. Unfortunately we came on a Thursday night when they had live music inside the restaurant. There was a singer, three musicians, one with drums. The noise level was off the charts which actually made the whole experience excruciating. We had told our friends so much about this restaurant but unfortunately all anyone wanted to do was rush through their meal and get out. It was a truly painful experience. My recommendation to the restaurant would be to only have live music outside, if at all. Conversation was absolutely impossible. In fact our server had to wait to be able to speak to us in between songs or during a break. This made the service less than stellar, to say the least. Not sure if we will be back.
Great food!! Great service! Best authentic Italian food!!
Restaurant looks old school Italian, but the cuisine is anything but. Excellent and creative home made pastas.
The food and ambiance at Marcellino's were fantastic. Would highly recommend!
Lousy service...unfriendly, slow ...bad combination
Were there 45 min before wine arrived
Probably better options in the area
Been going there for 13 years....
Great fresh pasta made daily. Sauce like I had never had before. We sat outside on a beautiful March evening. This was an excellent meal. Don’t order off of the menu. Wait for the daily specials.
My husband and I have eaten here a couple of times. The food is absolutely delicious. Very good service. Highly recommended. A great place for a special occassion.
We discovered Marcellino on our last visit to Scottsdale. We loved it then, and our return visit did not disappoint. The food is excellent, the service prompt and courteous. The room has a nice ambience, and the live music is a plus (although some might find it a little loud for relaxed dining). It's now a must each time we visit.
Our second time back. Excellent pasta superb
Will be back. Also love the atmosphere and live music which was not overpoweringly
Great location and food!
The food once served was great, the load music from the Mexican place next door not so great. Expensive for pasta dishes and wine list overpriced.. Service slow but it’s downtown Scottsdale during Cactus League season? Locals find better away from the crowd. All the food however, well presented and prepared.
I was the first to arrive for my dinner reservation and was sat promptly by a nice hostess. After about 20 minutes my wife and parents arrived and a different hostess directed them to my table, according to both of them, she was quite terse with her directions and they didn't feel welcome at all.
I eventually ordered the appetizer Gamberi e Feta, which turned out to be (2) shrimp on a 4" square of feta cheese, not worth the $20 price.
My father ordered the Scaloppine al Gorgonzola, which is veal, but felt the "creamy Gorgonzola sauce" was a stretch as it was more watery than creamy. He also ordered a rum and coke that took just over 15 minutes to arrive.
We also watched as our server lost a 5 top table that only ordered wine; for whatever reason, they walked out.
I attempted to order the Cacio e Pepe (which included grilled onion and sliced tomato, which is NOT how it is made in Rome at all though this chef is alleged Italian) when I asked the server if I could have the onion and tomato removed, she said no, the chef won't change the food for you, patted me on the hand, and told me to order something else. I admit I was flabbergasted. I then ordered a Filet Mignon con Tartufo that ended up having the most bitter, astringent wine reduction I've ever had, and the mashed potatoes were tasteless. $43.00 waste of time and money.
My wife ordered the Salmone in Crosta di Porcini Con Cognac e Porri where she found the fish was fine, but again the mashed potatoes were cold and tasteless and the vegetables consisted of (3) carrot sticks and (2) cucumber sticks. $29.00 sort of well spent if you count the fish was tolerable.
I must add that Thursday's are live music nights. And the singer is atrocious, to say the least, she's flat, nasally, and LOUD. It is impossible to hold a decent conversation with your table.
Our server was beyond put out that we refused to order dessert, tossed the check on the table and stalked away. $165 meal that sucked and was NOT Italian IMO
This restaurant is a must when visiting Scottsdale. The food is fresh and delicious, not to mention the service is above and beyond expectations!!
Everything was wonderful! Food was fantastic... Carpaccio di Manzo, insalata, tagliolini make Monte, scaloppine Al gorgnzola, special - sea bass, and more. We topped it off with the apple galetta, which was wonderful! There wasn't a bad bite and the service was prompt and pleasant. We will definitely be back!
We took my dad here for his 75th birthday and were not disappointed. I had asked about their beer selection and was surprised that they only had 2. The chef must have overheard me and came over to explain what they had. He was very friendly and turned me on to a very good Italian Amber. I really appreciated the personal attention. Our waitress was also very personable and light hearted. We all had a variety of pasta dishes and were very pleased. Everything was great and we highly recommend.
This is one if not the best Italian restaurant in Scottsdale. They are consistently great
Liked the restaurant and food but I felt very rushed. Within 10 minutes of ordering our food was brought out and it felt like they wanted us out quickly.
The ambiance was nice, the food was good, the service was good, too but overall it wasn't worth the money.
I've dined in much nicer restaurants with outstanding food and ended up paying less.
Over priced, over rated, expensive, small portions, that were basically tasteless.
Drinks, likewise, poorly constructed.
Moreover, Chef M. had the audacity to argue with a customer whose food order was admittedly lost by either the server or the kitchen.
Two couples enjoyed this very nice restaurant close to Scottsdale waterfront. One app tuna tartare was excellent. Special ravioli entree was delicious. Other entrees pasta with clams and salmon were also very good. Excellent service and ambiance.
Food was great service was ok could have been better. Will go back again
Amazing. Just as wonderful as our first visit!
Not really worth the $140 we spent
I have eaten at Marcellino's 4 or 5 times now, and always recommend it to friends and visitors. I grew up in New York and spent some time in Italy, and this is one of the best Italian restaurants I have ever eaten in, the best of Northern Italian, Southern Italian, and Scottsdale creative cuisine. Delicious home-made pastas, we also had tasty mussels (one of us had white sauce, other red, both great), and perfectly done salmon with the lunch special (including a glass of vino for a great deal). Server yesterday, I think her name was Jessica, made the experience even better, she was comfortable, casual, and funny (not pretentious, which can happen with food this good). You always see Marcellino back in the kitchen, so you know he's not just phoning it in, but making sure it's all done right.
It was our 58th wedding anniversary. Service was attentive and we enjoyed meeting Marcellino. We talked ourselves into the Tasting Menu. One of the salads, Pecorino and pear slices in greens with lemon dressing was outstanding, and we really appreciated the carefully chosen paired wines. The rest of the food was good but not amazing. The bill was surprisingly high. Our fault for not checking in advance. It would have been a terrific evening at a lower price, but it did not meet my expectations for such expenditure.
First time. Great ambience. Food was good. Service a bit spotty.
Great house-made pasta specials.
Great Food, Service and Ambiance. Loved every thing about this restaurant!!
Consistently excellent food and service .. superb pasta dishes ..gnocchi rules !
The singer was to loud sang same songs ruined our experience. We couldn’t talk and we won’t go back
As always, the handmade pasta dishes were the star of the show, but the supporting cast of wines, cocktails, service, ambiance, side dishes, desserts, and more all deserve awards too. Kudos to Marcellino and Sima Verzino for delivering a consistently 5-star dining destination on the Scottsdale Old Town Waterfront! Always a treat!
love the live music provided by Sima and All Star Trio
Food was excellent. Scallop appetizer in pesto was terrific. Pasta entrees were very good. Unique handmade pastas were paired with creative sauces. The kitchen definitely knows what it's doing...Everything was also ridiculously overpriced. This place would be great if the boss was picking up the tab, but there are plenty of equally good but more reasonable priced places in the neighborhood, some even in the same building.
