Our server was overworked because the restaurant was curiously understaffed, considering it was peak season on a Saturday night. Not to mention, she wasn’t very pleasant. It took us 10 minutes to give a drink order, 30 more to receive our appetizer, and 30 more to place our dinner order. The pasta was very good, but any noodle substitutions had to be run by the chef because he doesn’t like changes. Really? You’re serving pasta, not painting a Picasso! Not worth the high price and less than average service
Marcellino's is never anything short of amazing. I have been dining here for a few years now and each time is just as good if not better than the last. The ambiance is perfect. Dimmed lighting, live music and dark interior. The food is always perfect and the wine pairing was spot on. The waiters are always extremely knowledgeable with their wine pairings which I appreciate. Both the owner and the gentleman singing that night came over and said hi and even gave us a copy of his newest music. It's just always an all around good experience.
The portions were small for the price we paid. Even the vegetables, which cost nothing, were skimpy. A side of pasta, instead of mashed potatoes would have went better with an Italian dish. Also, spinach would have been good with the rolled chicken breast with Fontina cheese. The wait were nice and helpful
It was my husbands birthday and we met my daughter and family. My one year old grandson was coming. The high chair I requested was already set up at our reserved table. The waiter was great. He made sure my grandson got his food quickly which keeps him occupied. Have been here before and will be there another time. Great food.
Went for New Year's Eve and it was nice to not have a prix fixe menu at a place with live music. We were sitting inside then went outside due to how loud the music was and a singer that wasn't the very best. Sitting outside was much better with the heaters on; it was very comfortable. I ordered the Scaloppine Gorgonzola which was very good, thinly sliced veal in a wonderful sauce that came with carrots (that were a little too crunchy), zucchini and broccolini. My husband had the caprese salad which he liked but the roasted peppers were so bitter that he couldn't eat those and after trying myself agreed. I was surprised that they wanted to charge us for the bread but the waiter took it off the bill since they only had a baguette on NYE and he raved on how good the focaccia bread was but then realized they weren't serving it. For dessert we ordered tiramisu which was good with a nice presentation of a flaming sugar cube. Service was good, attentive but not overbearing. What was strange is after our entree the waiter asked if he could bring back our compliments to the chef. We were dumbfounded and taken by surprise no restaurant had ever asked us that before.
Loved this intimate feeling restaurant with a warm vibe from the moment we entered the door. This was our first visit here and we felt thrilled that we had been able to get reservations for New Year's Eve. (Downtown Scottsdale is magical this time of year, too!) While the pasta prices are near the top, the quality of the food is as well. We were pleased with the menu choices and the excellent service. We will look forward to going back again.
We dined New Year's Eve and chef had a special menu with all his specialties and house favorites. We came for the house made pasta so we ended up skipping the appetizers and instead ordered 3 pasta dishes. Lobster ravioli and seafood linguine were fantastic, but the flat pasta with white truffles were divine. Do yourself a favor and pair your meal with a wine selected from Chef's hometown in Italy. There is a section on the wine list featuring wine from his hometown only so you know it is fantastic. Definitely going back!
Marcellino's did it again! A magical evening all around-- the ambiance and service are superb, the cuisine is unparalleled in Scottsdale! In fact, the entire experience is reminiscent of times in some of the finer restaurants in Italy or NYC but with a very welcoming touch by the owners. We have been dining at Marcellino's since in opened , originally in Phoenix about 14 years ago and it is hands down, our family's favorite restaurant. The cuisine is world class--cannot say enough positives about this very special place.
We were entertaining out of town guests. I made an Opentable 7:45 Thursday night reservations for a party of 4. When we arrived, we were greeted and seated right away. The atmosphere was very nice, with live music, we were seated more towards the entrance of the restaurant so the music did not drown our our conversation. Our server introduced himself and it was smooth sailing for the rest of the evening.
Our guest ordered a bottle of wine to share and my friend and I ordered cocktail while reviewing the menu. We started off with Beef Carpaccio. Pear Salad and Shrimp with Feta appetizers. Entrees were the Mussels in Spiced Tomato Sauce, Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli, Veal Scaloppine with Gorgonzola and Gnocchi. We ended the night with Cappuccinos.
All the food was delicious and our server excellent as he was so patient in letting us catch up with conversation while still be attentive, so patient that we managed to be the last table of customers in the restaurant and were not asked to leave because of closing.
Like most of the restaurants reviews on Open Table, my experience was similar. The food (I had gnocchi, my friend had the pancetta pasta special) was excellent. The service was adequate, however, our server just seemed "Too cool for school". Not unprofessional or put out, but kind of an alpha male thing going on. I made the reservations in October, and we were sat at a 2-top right next to the bar, which was "energetic"... noisy, but not overly so. I was disappointed in the seating choice and will specify moving forward that I wish a larger table in the requests section. There was live music, which was very good, but tends to create an atmosphere that is not conducive to conversation with your dining partner. I've never felt this before, but the restaurant vibe had a flavor of "pretentiousness" that made me a bit uncomfortable. The only other time I felt this was 15 years ago when I dined at Fleur de Lys in San Francisco. Overall, "GOOD". I wouldn't go back, only because it's not worth the drive from the "Tuke" to warrant not trying other restaurants, however, I think it's worth trying!
We were there in the Christmas season and the owner-singer screeched her way through some seasonal songs, so you couldn't have a conversation and had a good chance of developing a headache. The service was excellent, the food mediocre. Surprisingly for an Italian restaurant, everything was sort of bland. Best thing we had was the strozzapreti with broccolini. The shrimp appetizer was blah, the raw tuna too lemony and the veal basically tasteless. And for a restaurant that charges and arm and a leg, the bread was pitiful: toasted supermarket bread.
The restaurant seems to have added more tables than in the past. The last two times I visited the restaurant, the two seat tables were very close to each other. It was like you were sharing a table with the party next to you. The romantic atmosphere is completely lost when you have to speak over the conversation at the next table. They are that close! The food is always amazing, but you can forget about a romantic evening for the two of you!
Our server was so patient with us as my date and I hadn’t seen each other or talked in quite some time. We were very unconventional with our dining pace and she never left us unattended despite us being very slow. I’ve eaten there probably 20 times and the food and service is always spot on.

I'm an Italian Restaurant fan! This is one of the best here in the Valley and I think in the US. And, I travel a lot and eat out a lot. The creative food and menu is tops. The owners are friendly and get to know you. Staff is well trained. All in all a MUST! Oh and by all means - try one of the special homemade pasta dishes which the wait staff "present to you" (off menu).
